Eversolo DMP-A10 Flagship Music Streamer, DAC and Pre-Amplifier

Audio T Verdict

The Eversolo DMP-A10 is the flagship of the company's music-streaming range, combining a high-resolution network player, ES9039PRO DAC, digital transport, local music server and fully balanced analogue pre-amplifier within one full-width component.

Its dual OCXO clock system, comprehensive electrical isolation, separate linear power supplies and XMOS XU316 USB interface place far greater emphasis on signal integrity than a conventional multi-purpose streamer. Compatible USB playback supports native DSD512 and PCM up to 32-bit/768kHz.

The fully balanced pre-amplifier includes precision R-2R analogue volume control, one balanced XLR input pair and two RCA analogue input pairs. This allows digital and traditional line-level sources to share the same system without requiring a separate pre-amplifier.

Two independently configurable subwoofer outputs provide unusually comprehensive bass-management options, including mono or stereo operation, adjustable level, crossover frequency and delay. Eversolo Digital Room Correction, ten-band parametric EQ, FIR filter support and additional DSP tools allow the DMP-A10 to be tailored closely to the room and connected system.

It does not contain power amplification, a headphone output, phono stage or internal CD mechanism. However, partnered with a suitable power amplifier, active loudspeakers or existing integrated amplifier, the DMP-A10 is one of Eversolo's most ambitious and flexible system controllers.

Eversolo DMP-A10 Flagship Music Streamer, DAC and Pre-Amplifier

The Eversolo DMP-A10 is a reference-grade digital and analogue source designed to sit at the centre of a high-performance Hi-Fi system.

It combines online music streaming, high-resolution local playback, network-library management, internal SSD storage, digital-to-analogue conversion and fully balanced analogue volume control within a substantial 430mm-wide aluminium chassis.

Balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA outputs can operate at a fixed level into an existing integrated amplifier or pre-amplifier. Variable output allows the DMP-A10 to connect directly to a suitable power amplifier or pair of active loudspeakers.

An Amplifier or Active Loudspeakers Are Required

The DMP-A10 contains a streamer, DAC and pre-amplifier, but it does not contain speaker-level power amplification.

It cannot drive passive loudspeakers directly. Connect it to an integrated amplifier, a suitable power amplifier or a pair of active loudspeakers.

  • No power amplifier for passive loudspeakers
  • No loudspeaker terminals
  • No headphone output
  • No built-in phono stage
  • No internal CD mechanism

A Flagship System Controller

The DMP-A10 can replace several individual components within a suitable system.

Its network platform manages online services, local files, USB storage, internal SSDs and network music. The internal DAC handles digital conversion, while the fully balanced analogue pre-amplifier provides source selection, volume adjustment and system control.

Conventional analogue inputs allow an existing phono stage, CD player, tuner, cassette deck or other line-level source to use the DMP-A10's volume control and analogue outputs.

The DMP-A10 can therefore operate in several different ways:

  • As a streamer and DAC connected to an integrated amplifier
  • As a streamer, DAC and pre-amplifier connected directly to a power amplifier
  • As a source and controller for active loudspeakers
  • As a standalone DAC for computers, televisions and digital sources
  • As a digital streaming transport connected to an external DAC
  • As an analogue pre-amplifier for suitable line-level equipment
  • As a local music server with one or two internally installed SSDs
  • As the control centre for a stereo system using one or two subwoofers

ESS ES9039PRO Flagship DAC

The DMP-A10 uses the flagship ESS ES9039PRO digital-to-analogue converter.

Its HyperStream IV architecture and advanced clock-management technology are designed to reduce distortion, noise and timing errors during conversion.

The DAC supports compatible stereo PCM up to 32-bit/768kHz and native DSD512 through suitable USB playback routes.

The DMP-A10's fully balanced output stage is designed to preserve low-level information, stereo separation and dynamic contrast after the digital signal has been converted into analogue audio.

XMOS XU316 USB Audio Interface

An XMOS XU316 processor manages high-resolution USB audio input and output.

When connected to a compatible computer or mobile device through the isolated USB-B input, the DMP-A10 can operate as an external high-resolution DAC.

Compatible USB playback supports native stereo DSD512 and PCM up to 32-bit/768kHz.

Windows computers require the appropriate Eversolo USB audio driver for advanced operation. Compatible Mac systems normally operate without an additional driver.

Dual OCXO Clock System

The DMP-A10 uses two oven-controlled crystal oscillators operating at 45.1584MHz and 49.152MHz.

Eversolo's digital temperature-control system maintains each oscillator at a consistent operating temperature, reducing the frequency changes that can occur as a conventional crystal oscillator warms and cools.

The two frequencies provide dedicated clock references for the principal digital-audio sample-rate families.

Eversolo quotes clock jitter below 50 femtoseconds, helping provide the digital conversion and output stages with a stable timing reference.

Comprehensive Electrical Isolation

The internal architecture uses high-speed electrical isolation to separate noise and interference generated by different circuit boards and functional areas.

This physical and electrical division helps prevent high-speed processing, storage, networking and display activity from unnecessarily affecting the audio circuits.

The front-panel display also uses a shielding structure to reduce interference reaching the sensitive digital and analogue stages.

Isolated USB Audio

The USB audio circuits use electrical isolation to help reduce interference from computer power supplies, external DACs and ground loops.

Digital clock and data signals are transferred across the isolation barrier and resynchronised, helping maintain correct timing and data integrity.

The DMP-A10 provides an isolated USB-B input for computer and mobile playback, together with an isolated USB Audio output for connection to an external DAC.

Separate Linear Power Supplies

The digital system and analogue audio circuits are supplied by separate low-noise linear power arrangements.

Eversolo quotes analogue power-supply ripple below 30 microvolts RMS, helping create a quiet electrical environment for the DAC and pre-amplifier stages.

An intelligent voltage-switching system automatically accommodates compatible worldwide mains voltages without requiring a manual voltage selector.

Carefully Selected Internal Components

The DMP-A10 uses selected components from established audio and electronics manufacturers.

These include WIMA capacitors, Texas Instruments audio operational amplifiers, Nichicon audio-grade capacitors and Murata surface-mounted components.

Silver-plated single-crystal copper wiring is used between the internal audio circuits and rear-panel terminals.

Fully Balanced Analogue Pre-Amplifier

The DMP-A10 incorporates a fully balanced analogue pre-amplifier circuit extending through its XLR input and output stages.

Balanced operation can improve rejection of electrical interference and is particularly useful with compatible power amplifiers, active loudspeakers and longer interconnect cables.

Unbalanced RCA inputs and outputs are also provided for conventional Hi-Fi equipment.

R-2R Analogue Volume Control

Volume is adjusted through a balanced network of precision resistors and relays.

This R-2R analogue arrangement allows the ES9039PRO DAC to remain in its optimum bypass state rather than relying entirely on digital attenuation.

The system is designed to retain resolution, signal-to-noise performance and dynamic range at lower listening levels.

Left and right channel balance can be adjusted in precise 0.1dB increments.

The R-2R Network Controls Volume

The DMP-A10 does not use an R-2R digital-to-analogue converter.

Digital conversion is handled by the ESS ES9039PRO. The R-2R resistor and relay network is used within the analogue volume-control stage.

Safe Volume Protection

The DMP-A10 can automatically reduce an excessive volume setting to a predefined safe level when it starts or when the selected input changes.

This provides useful protection when the DMP-A10 is connected directly to a powerful amplifier or active loudspeaker system.

The safe volume, maximum volume and adjustment behaviour should be configured before normal listening begins.

Fixed or Variable Analogue Output

The balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA outputs can be configured for fixed-level or variable operation.

Use fixed output when connecting the DMP-A10 to an integrated amplifier or separate pre-amplifier with its own volume control.

Use variable output when the DMP-A10 is connected directly to a suitable power amplifier or active loudspeakers.

Check the Volume Before Direct Connection

When connecting the DMP-A10 directly to a power amplifier or active loudspeakers, confirm that variable output is selected and reduce the volume before playback begins.

Accidentally selecting fixed output can send a full-level signal to the connected equipment.

Balanced and Unbalanced Outputs

The DMP-A10 provides balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA main analogue outputs.

The specified maximum output level is 4.2V through XLR and 2.1V through RCA.

XLR and RCA outputs can be selected individually or used simultaneously where the connected system requires it.

Separate operation may provide the best measured performance when only one output type is required.

Up to 10dB of Analogue Gain

The pre-amplifier stage provides up to 10dB of analogue gain.

This offers greater flexibility when matching power amplifiers, active loudspeakers and analogue sources with different input sensitivities and output levels.

Gain and maximum volume should be configured carefully within high-power systems.

Balanced XLR Analogue Input

A balanced XLR input pair allows a suitable high-quality analogue source to use the DMP-A10's pre-amplifier and volume-control section.

The maximum specified balanced input level is 5Vrms.

Possible sources include a balanced CD player, external DAC, phono stage or other line-level component.

Two RCA Analogue Inputs

Two unbalanced RCA input pairs provide additional flexibility for conventional line-level sources.

This is particularly useful where the DMP-A10 is replacing a traditional pre-amplifier within a mixed analogue and digital system.

The maximum specified RCA input level is 2.5Vrms.

No Phono Stage Is Built In

A conventional turntable cannot connect directly to the RCA inputs.

A suitable moving-magnet or moving-coil phono stage is required between the turntable and DMP-A10, unless the turntable already includes its own line-level phono output.

Dual Subwoofer Outputs

Two dedicated RCA subwoofer outputs allow the DMP-A10 to operate with a single subwoofer or a matched pair.

The outputs can operate in Mixer mode, where both sockets carry a combined mono bass signal, or Stereo mode, where separate left and right signals are provided.

Subwoofer level, crossover frequency and delay can be adjusted through the DMP-A10's settings.

The main XLR and RCA outputs can operate full range or use a corresponding high-pass filter, allowing the DMP-A10 to manage the transition between the main loudspeakers and subwoofers.

Subwoofer Processing Has Signal Limitations

The DMP-A10's subwoofer processing is available with compatible PCM signals below 192kHz.

Higher-rate PCM and DSD material may bypass parts of the processing system. Check the active playback format and output settings when configuring bass management.

Two Optical and Two Coaxial Digital Inputs

Two optical and two coaxial inputs allow the DMP-A10 to operate as a DAC and pre-amplifier for several external digital sources.

Compatible stereo PCM is supported up to 24-bit/192kHz, with DSD64 supported through DoP from suitable equipment.

These inputs can accommodate products such as:

  • CD transports and CD players
  • Televisions and set-top boxes
  • Games consoles
  • Digital radio tuners
  • Network transports
  • Computers with a suitable digital interface

HDMI ARC for Television Sound

HDMI ARC allows a compatible television or projector to send stereo audio to the DMP-A10.

This allows television programmes, films, streaming-video services and games to use the Eversolo DAC, pre-amplifier and connected stereo system.

The HDMI ARC input supports compatible stereo PCM up to 24-bit/192kHz.

Set the Television to Stereo PCM

The DMP-A10 is a two-channel Hi-Fi component rather than a Dolby Atmos or multichannel home-cinema receiver.

Set the television's digital audio output to PCM or stereo if no sound is heard. Connect the cable to the television socket marked ARC or eARC.

Qualcomm Bluetooth 5.0 Input

A Qualcomm QCC5125 Bluetooth receiver provides convenient wireless playback from compatible phones, tablets and computers.

The official specification lists SBC and AAC receiving codecs.

Bluetooth is useful for casual listening and guests, although network streaming or local file playback will normally provide the best available sound quality.

Digital Transport Outputs

The DMP-A10 can bypass its internal DAC and operate as a high-performance digital streaming transport with a compatible external converter.

Digital outputs include isolated USB Audio, coaxial and optical.

This gives owners the option of using the internal ES9039PRO conversion stage or comparing it with a separate DAC.

Isolated USB Audio Output

The isolated USB Audio output supports compatible native stereo DSD512 and PCM up to 32-bit/768kHz when connected to a UAC-compliant DAC.

USB is likely to be the preferred output for many current high-resolution DACs because it supports the DMP-A10's highest published digital output rates.

Coaxial and Optical Digital Outputs

The coaxial and optical outputs support compatible stereo PCM up to 24-bit/192kHz and DSD64 through DoP.

These outputs provide straightforward compatibility with established DACs, digital amplifiers and active loudspeaker systems.

No IIS Digital Output

Unlike several other Eversolo products, the DMP-A10 does not provide an IIS output through an HDMI-style connector.

Connection to an external DAC is available through isolated USB Audio, coaxial or optical output.

Digital-to-Digital Conversion

The DMP-A10 includes Digital-to-Digital Converter functionality.

Signals received through USB-B, coaxial, optical and HDMI ARC can be processed and sent through the coaxial, optical or analogue outputs.

This allows the DMP-A10 to act as a central digital interface as well as a streamer and DAC.

High-Resolution Analogue-to-Digital Processing

Analogue input signals can be converted through a high-specification analogue-to-digital converter at sample rates up to 192kHz.

This allows compatible DSP, equalisation and room-correction functions to be applied to an analogue source before it is returned through the analogue or digital outputs.

Listeners who prefer an entirely analogue path should consider how the selected DSP and output configuration affects the signal.

Eversolo Original Sampling-Rate Audio Engine

The Eversolo Original Sampling-Rate Audio Engine, or EOS, allows compatible music applications to bypass conventional Android sample-rate conversion.

This helps preserve the original sample rate of supported music and enables direct high-resolution output from compatible third-party applications such as Apple Music.

The available output rate will still depend on the source material, selected output and connected equipment.

6.5-Inch Colour Touchscreen

The front panel includes a large 6.5-inch LCD touchscreen.

It provides direct access to music libraries, streaming services, inputs, outputs, playlists, DSP settings and system configuration.

Album artwork, track information, file type and playback resolution can be displayed during use.

A selection of VU meters and spectrum displays allows the appearance to be personalised.

Multifunction Volume Dial

The illuminated front-panel control provides precise volume adjustment and direct access to key operating functions.

The volume-control display can use different visual themes, allowing the front-panel appearance to be matched to the wider interface.

Volume-step behaviour and maximum output can be adjusted within the settings.

Eversolo Control App

The Eversolo Control app provides remote access to music selection, playlists, favourites, playback queues, streaming services, input selection, output settings and music-library management.

Compatible applications are available for Android phones, iPhone and iPad.

The app mirrors much of the front-panel experience and is particularly useful when the DMP-A10 is positioned across the room or within an equipment rack.

Supplied Dual-Mode Remote Control

A metal handheld remote control is included.

It supports infrared and Bluetooth operation, providing access to volume adjustment, input selection, playback and other everyday functions.

The remote complements the touchscreen and mobile-control options.

Wake-on-LAN and Trigger Control

Wake-on-LAN allows the DMP-A10 to be started through a compatible wired network connection.

Trigger input and output connections provide power synchronisation with compatible amplifiers and other suitable components.

Confirm the trigger voltage and operating requirements of the connected equipment before use.

  • Radio Paradise
  • Calm Radio
  • KKBOX
  • Internet radio

Service availability, functionality and maximum playback quality can vary according to region, subscription, account type, service certification and installed firmware.

Roon Ready

Roon Ready certification allows the DMP-A10 to operate as a recognised network endpoint within a compatible Roon system.

Roon combines supported online services and locally stored music within a unified library, adding detailed metadata, recommendations, signal-path information and multiroom control.

A separate Roon Server, suitable network and appropriate Roon subscription are required.

Spotify, TIDAL and Qobuz Connect

Connect services allow music to be selected through the provider's own application while the DMP-A10 receives the stream directly over the network.

Current compatible software supports Spotify Connect Lossless, TIDAL Connect and Qobuz Connect.

This provides access to each service's familiar interface, recommendations, playlists and account features.

Squeeze Connect and DLNA

Squeeze Connect provides compatibility with suitable Logitech Media Server systems.

DLNA and UPnP support allow compatible controllers, servers and network libraries to send music to the DMP-A10 across the local network.

Global Music Search

Global search can look across compatible integrated services and local music libraries from a single search field.

This makes it easier to locate a particular artist, album or track without searching each service individually.

The relevant music-service accounts must be logged in before their content can appear within global search.

Local Music-Library Management

The DMP-A10 can organise music held on its internal SSDs, USB storage, network shares and compatible cloud sources.

Albums can be indexed using metadata including artist, album, composer, genre, sample rate and file format.

Search, favourites, playlists and playback queues make it easier to manage collections spread across several storage locations.

Compatible artwork and metadata can be retrieved automatically, although results depend on the information contained within the files and available online databases.

Dual Internal M.2 NVMe SSD Slots

Two M.2 NVMe 2280 slots allow compatible solid-state drives to be installed for local music storage.

Each slot supports a compatible SSD of up to 4TB, providing a total internal capacity of up to 8TB.

The drives are installed through accessible panels on the underside of the chassis.

Internal storage provides a neat way to hold a substantial high-resolution music collection without leaving an external USB drive permanently connected.

Internal SSDs Are Not Included

Compatible M.2 NVMe 2280 SSDs must be purchased separately.

Check the interface, physical size, capacity, heat requirements, formatting and current Eversolo compatibility guidance before installation.

USB Storage

Two USB 3.0 connections support compatible external hard drives, solid-state drives, memory sticks and accessories.

Music can be played directly from USB storage or indexed into the Eversolo music library.

The USB ports can also support compatible optical drives and file transfer, depending on the selected USB operating mode.

External USB CD Playback and Ripping

A compatible external USB optical drive can be connected for CD playback and music ripping.

Ripped music can be saved in WAV or FLAC format to an internal SSD, USB storage or compatible network location.

The CD application can retrieve compatible album artwork, track titles and artist information from online databases.

No CD Mechanism Is Built In

The DMP-A10 does not contain an internal CD transport.

A separately purchased compatible USB optical drive is required. Drive compatibility and metadata results can vary.

NAS, Server and Cloud Playback

The DMP-A10 can access music stored on compatible network-attached storage drives, computers, music servers and online locations.

Supported options include SMB, NFS, WebDAV, UPnP, Plex, Emby and Jellyfin.

Network permissions, folder sharing, usernames and passwords must be configured correctly before a music library can be scanned.

Gigabit Ethernet

The conventional RJ45 network connection supports 10, 100 and 1000Mbps Ethernet.

A wired connection will normally provide the greatest stability when streaming high-resolution music, scanning a large library or copying files to internal storage.

SFP Fibre Network Connection

An SFP network interface allows the DMP-A10 to connect to suitable network equipment through fibre.

Fibre provides electrical separation between the DMP-A10 and the network switch or media converter, preventing electrical noise from travelling through a conventional copper Ethernet cable.

SFP Equipment Is Not Included

A compatible SFP module, matching module at the network end and suitable fibre cable must be purchased separately.

The DMP-A10 supports compatible single-mode single-fibre, single-mode dual-fibre and SFP copper-network modules.

Confirm that both modules use matching standards, wavelengths and fibre connections before purchase.

Dual-Band Wi-Fi 6

Dual-band Wi-Fi 6 provides compatible 2.4GHz and 5GHz wireless network connectivity.

Wireless operation is useful where a network cable is impractical, although Ethernet or a correctly configured fibre connection will normally provide the greatest stability.

Eversolo Digital Room Correction

Eversolo Digital Room Correction measures the response of the loudspeakers and listening room before generating corrective filters.

Measurements can be carried out with a compatible USB measurement microphone, a microphone connected to a phone or the phone's own built-in microphone.

A dedicated measurement microphone will normally provide the most consistent and accurate results.

Room correction can help reduce prominent response peaks caused by room dimensions, loudspeaker placement and nearby walls.

Room Correction Does Not Replace Good Setup

Digital processing cannot fully compensate for unsuitable loudspeakers, poor positioning or severe acoustic problems.

Finalise the loudspeaker, subwoofer and listening positions before carrying out measurements, then compare corrected and uncorrected playback.

Ten-Band Parametric Equalisation

A ten-band parametric equaliser allows individual frequencies, gain levels and Q values to be adjusted.

This provides more precise control than a conventional bass and treble adjustment and can be used to refine particular areas of the system's response.

EQ settings should be applied carefully, as extreme adjustments can reduce available headroom or place additional demands on the loudspeakers.

FIR Filters and Additional DSP

The DMP-A10 supports imported FIR correction filters, high-pass and low-pass filters, loudness adjustment, dynamic-range compression and left-to-right channel delay.

DSP is available for the internal player, compatible digital inputs and analogue inputs converted through the internal analogue-to-digital stage.

The DSP system processes compatible PCM signals up to 192kHz. Higher-rate PCM and DSD material may pass directly to the DAC without processing.
