Audio T Verdict
The WiiM Sound combines the simplicity of a modern wireless speaker with the extensive streaming, multiroom and sound-adjustment features normally associated with a separate WiiM music streamer.
Its 100W peak output, 4-inch woofer, twin 1-inch tweeters, 24-bit/192kHz playback, 1.8-inch touchscreen, RoomFit room correction and excellent WiiM Home app make it a particularly strong choice for kitchens, bedrooms, offices and smaller living rooms.
One speaker provides an impressively complete standalone system, while two can be configured as dedicated left and right channels for a more convincing stereo presentation. It can also expand into a WiiM multiroom or compatible home cinema system.
It does not support AirPlay 2 and there is no always-listening microphone built into the speaker. Apple users can still use the WiiM Home app, supported Connect services, Google Cast, Roon Ready or Bluetooth, while voice commands are available through the included push-to-talk remote or a compatible external voice-assistant device.
WiiM Sound Smart Streaming Speaker
The WiiM Sound is a compact powered streaming speaker designed to provide high-resolution music, internet radio, podcasts, Bluetooth playback and multiroom audio without requiring a separate amplifier or pair of passive loudspeakers.
Everything needed for everyday playback is contained within the speaker, including digital amplification, a 4-inch woofer, dual tweeters, network streaming hardware, Bluetooth, a 3.5mm analogue input and an interactive colour touchscreen.
Control is available through the WiiM Home app, touchscreen, illuminated top-panel controls, supplied WiiM Voice Remote 2 Lite and compatible Alexa or Google Assistant devices.
100W Peak Output
The internal amplification provides up to 100W of combined peak output, divided between a 50W bass section and two 25W high-frequency channels.
This gives the WiiM Sound considerably more scale and authority than its compact dimensions might suggest, making it suitable for focused listening as well as background music.
Its active design allows the internal amplification, drivers, crossover and digital signal processing to be engineered as a complete system rather than relying on the user to match a separate amplifier and loudspeaker.
Peak Power Is Not Continuous Amplifier Output
The quoted 100W figure is the speaker's combined peak output rather than a conventional continuous watts-per-channel rating.
It should not be compared directly with the output specification of a separate stereo amplifier driving passive loudspeakers.
Four-Inch Woofer and Dual Silk-Dome Tweeters
A long-throw 4-inch paper-cone woofer handles the bass and midrange, supported by two 1-inch silk-dome tweeters for smooth high frequencies and broad dispersion.
The individually amplified drivers operate through a precision digital crossover, allowing WiiM to control the frequency balance, driver integration and protection of the complete speaker.
WiiM specifies a frequency range of approximately 35Hz to 20kHz, although the amount and character of the bass will depend on room size, placement, listening level and RoomFit settings.
High-Resolution 24-Bit/192kHz Playback
Compatible network music can be played at resolutions up to 24-bit/192kHz, allowing the WiiM Sound to make full use of suitable high-resolution streaming services and local music libraries.
Gapless playback is supported for compatible albums, live recordings and classical works that are intended to flow continuously from one track to the next.
The final sound is produced by the speaker's internal digital processing, amplification and drivers, so high-resolution file support should not be confused with the performance of a separate DAC or traditional Hi-Fi system.
1.8-Inch Colour Touchscreen
The circular 1.8-inch touchscreen provides direct access to playback information and useful everyday controls without requiring a phone or tablet.
Depending on the selected screen and current software, it can display album artwork, track information, recently played music, radio, source selection, presets, EQ controls, RoomFit status, device information, clock faces and customised wallpaper.
Swipe gestures provide access to additional menus, while the illuminated top panel offers physical play, pause, track and volume controls.
AI RoomFit Room Correction
WiiM RoomFit measures how the speaker and room interact at the listening position and creates a correction profile intended to provide a more balanced frequency response.
Measurements can use the speaker's internal microphone system together with a compatible phone or supported external measurement microphone.
RoomFit can help reduce the effect of room-related peaks and uneven bass, particularly where practical speaker placement is limited.
RoomFit Does Not Replace Good Speaker Placement
Room correction can improve frequency balance, but it cannot completely compensate for placing the speaker in an unsuitable position.
Begin with the WiiM Sound on a stable surface with some space around it, then run RoomFit from the main listening position.
Dynamic Bass and Extensive EQ
Dynamic Bass automatically adjusts the low-frequency balance according to listening level, helping the speaker sound fuller at quieter volumes while reducing excessive bass boost at higher levels.
The WiiM Home app also provides 24 preset EQ profiles, a 10-band graphic equaliser and a 10-band parametric equaliser for more detailed adjustment.
Different settings can be stored for network playback, Bluetooth and the analogue input, allowing each source to be adjusted independently.
Use One Speaker or Create a Stereo Pair
A single WiiM Sound operates as a complete self-contained music system and is well suited to rooms where space and simplicity are priorities.
Two matching WiiM Sound speakers can be paired through the WiiM Home app and assigned dedicated left and right channels.
Stereo pairing provides greater physical separation, a wider soundstage and more precise positioning of voices and instruments than a single speaker can produce.
Stereo Pairing Requires Two Compatible Speakers
Purchase two WiiM Sound speakers if you want dedicated left and right channels.
A single speaker remains fully usable but cannot provide the same physical stereo separation as two independently positioned units.
WiiM Multiroom Audio
The WiiM Sound can be grouped with compatible WiiM streamers, amplifiers and powered speakers for synchronised playback around the home.
Each room can play the same music or operate independently, with individual playback and volume control available through the WiiM Home app.
Compatible analogue input audio can also be shared with other suitable WiiM products, allowing a connected CD player, television or turntable system to play in additional rooms.
Compatible WiiM Home Cinema Expansion
WiiM Sound speakers can be assigned as centre or surround channels within a compatible WiiM home cinema system.
Depending on the lead WiiM product and system configuration, arrangements including 3.0, 3.1, 4.0, 4.1, 5.0 and 5.1 may be supported.
This provides a flexible route from a single music speaker to a larger wireless entertainment system.
No HDMI or Optical Input on the WiiM Sound
The WiiM Sound does not connect directly to a television through HDMI ARC or optical digital audio.
Home cinema use requires a compatible WiiM lead product connected to the television, or an analogue connection from the television to the speaker's 3.5mm Aux input.
Wireless WiiM Sub Pro Support
A compatible WiiM Sub Pro can be paired wirelessly to extend bass depth and provide greater low-frequency impact for music, films and games.
The WiiM Home app provides crossover, level, phase and timing adjustments to help integrate the subwoofer with the main speaker or stereo pair.
RoomFit can then be used to refine the response of the combined system within the room.
3.5mm Analogue Input
A rear 3.5mm auxiliary input allows a suitable line-level source such as a CD player, television, computer, portable music player or turntable with a built-in phono stage to play through the WiiM Sound.
The input includes automatic sensing and can be selected through the app, touchscreen or remote.
Analogue input audio can also be distributed to other compatible WiiM products through a WiiM multiroom group.
A Turntable Normally Requires a Phono Stage
The Aux input accepts a line-level signal and is not a dedicated moving-magnet or moving-coil phono input.
A conventional turntable will require a suitable external phono stage. A turntable with a switchable built-in phono stage should be set to its line-output mode.
Streaming Services and Network Libraries
The WiiM Home platform provides access to a wide selection of compatible music services, internet radio stations, podcasts and local network libraries.
Current supported technologies include Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect, Google Cast Audio, Alexa Cast, Roon Ready, DLNA and Squeezelite.
Services available directly through the WiiM Home app include compatible versions of Amazon Music, Qobuz, TIDAL, Spotify, Deezer, Napster, TuneIn, Plex, SoundCloud and others.
Availability can vary by region, and some services require a separate paid subscription.
AirPlay 2 Is Not Supported
The WiiM Sound does not support Apple AirPlay 2, Siri playback or grouping with Apple HomePod speakers.
Apple users can still use the WiiM Home app, Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect, Google Cast-enabled apps, Roon Ready, Bluetooth or the analogue input.
Roon Ready
Roon Ready support allows the WiiM Sound to operate as a recognised network audio endpoint within a compatible Roon system.
Roon provides detailed library management, music discovery, metadata and multiroom control, but requires a separate Roon Server and appropriate subscription.
Wi-Fi 6E and Ethernet
Wi-Fi 6E support provides access to compatible 2.4GHz, 5GHz and 6GHz wireless networks, subject to router, firmware and regional support.
A 10/100 Ethernet socket provides a wired alternative and may be preferable where wireless coverage is weak, congested or unreliable.
Reliable network performance is particularly important for high-resolution streaming, multiroom synchronisation, stereo pairing and wireless home cinema operation.
Bluetooth 5.3
Bluetooth 5.3 provides a straightforward connection for compatible phones, tablets, computers and televisions.
Bluetooth is useful for guests, occasional listening and apps that do not offer a direct WiiM streaming option.
For critical listening, high-resolution playback or multiroom use, Wi-Fi or Ethernet will normally provide better performance and flexibility.
WiiM Voice Remote 2 Lite Included
The supplied rechargeable WiiM Voice Remote 2 Lite provides volume, playback, track selection, source switching and four preset buttons.
Its push-to-talk microphone can be used for compatible voice commands without requiring an always-listening microphone inside the speaker.
The remote communicates wirelessly and does not require direct line of sight. It recharges through USB-C using the supplied charging cable.
No Always-Listening Microphone
The WiiM Sound is not a standalone always-listening Alexa or Google Assistant smart speaker.
Voice control requires the microphone button on the supplied remote, a compatible phone or another suitable Alexa or Google Assistant device.
Smart Presets, Alarms and Routines
Smart Presets provide quick access to favourite playlists, radio stations, inputs and other compatible sources from the touchscreen, app or remote.
Presets can include preferred volume, EQ, shuffle, repeat and playback-duration settings where supported.
Music alarms and routines can be scheduled for wake-up, background listening or evening playback, with control over source, time, volume and duration.
Mains-Powered Design
The WiiM Sound is designed as a permanent home audio product and operates from mains power.
It does not contain a rechargeable speaker battery and is not intended to be used as a portable outdoor Bluetooth speaker.
Placement and Installation
The WiiM Sound can be placed on a shelf, desk, worktop, cabinet or suitable speaker stand.
For the most even sound, position it on a stable surface with some space around the cabinet and avoid pushing it tightly into a corner unless RoomFit and EQ are used to compensate.
The speaker is also wall-mount ready when used with suitable compatible mounting hardware and a secure fixing appropriate for the wall construction.
