Rega Reference EBLT Turntable Drive Belt

Rega Reference EBLT Turntable Drive Belt

Audio T Verdict

The Rega Reference EBLT is the company's highest-accuracy replacement and upgrade drive belt for compatible Rega turntables.

Its precision-moulded circular profile, cryogenic treatment and advanced curing process are designed to provide more consistent energy transfer between the motor pulley and sub-platter, helping reduce short-term speed variation.

It is fitted as standard to several of Rega's higher-performance turntables and is particularly worthwhile for a Planar 3 using a Neo power supply, or as a replacement belt for the Planar 6, Planar 8 and Planar 10.

Rega Reference EBLT Turntable Drive Belt

The Reference EBLT is Rega's premium turntable drive belt, developed through extensive material research, moulding trials and precision manufacturing.

A turntable belt must transfer drive from the motor while remaining flexible, dimensionally consistent and accurately rounded around its complete circumference.

Small variations in belt shape or elasticity can alter the effective driving radius as the belt rotates. The Reference EBLT is designed to minimise these variations and provide greater speed stability.

Precision Manufacturing

Each Reference EBLT is moulded using high-accuracy custom Rega tooling and a proprietary material blend.

After moulding, the belt is cryogenically frozen and barrelled to remove excess material from the manufacturing process. This helps create the accurate circular cross section required for consistent drive.

Reference belts then receive an additional curing process to improve consistency in the modulus of the material. This extra stage separates the Reference EBLT from the more affordable Advanced EBLT.

  • Precision moulded using custom Rega tooling
  • Proprietary Reference EBLT material
  • Cryogenically frozen after moulding
  • Barrelled to remove excess flash
  • Advanced curing for improved material consistency
  • Accurate circular cross-sectional profile

Turntable Compatibility

The Reference EBLT is suitable for most Rega belt-drive turntables and can replace the Advanced EBLT or earlier circular Rega drive belts on compatible models.

Standard Reference Belt Models

Recommended Upgrades

  • Rega Planar 3 using a Neo power supply
  • Compatible older Rega Planar models
  • Compatible Rega P and RP turntables
  • Decks fitted with the Rega 24 V Motor Upgrade Kit

Multiple-Belt Turntables

  • Planar 6 RS Edition uses two Reference belts
  • Rega Naia uses three Reference belts
  • Check the required quantity before replacing a complete set

Early Rega Turntables

Rega's original EBLT launch guidance excluded the early 1970s Planet turntable. Owners of particularly early or modified Rega models should confirm compatibility before ordering.

Contact your local Audio T store with the exact model and approximate age of your turntable if you are unsure which belt is required.

Rega Performance Comparison

Rega compared its previous standard belt, Advanced EBLT and Reference EBLT using the same Planar 1 turntable, with only the drive belt changed between tests.

  • Previous standard belt: 0.253% weighted peak wow and flutter
  • Advanced EBLT: 0.162% weighted peak wow and flutter
  • Reference EBLT: 0.075% weighted peak wow and flutter

These are Rega's controlled comparison results rather than guaranteed measurements for every turntable. Final performance also depends on the condition of the motor, pulley, main bearing, sub-platter and power supply.

Advanced EBLT or Reference EBLT?

Advanced EBLT

The Rega Advanced EBLT is the standard belt for the Planar 1, Planar 1 Plus, Planar 2 and standard Planar 3.

It provides an excellent genuine replacement for general servicing and many older Rega turntables.

Reference EBLT

The Reference EBLT uses the same core precision-moulding process with an additional curing stage for greater material consistency.

It is the preferred option for higher-level Rega turntables and a Planar 3 partnered with a Rega Neo Mk2 .

How to Replace the Belt

  1. Switch off the turntable and disconnect its power supply.
  2. Remove the platter carefully and place it on a safe surface.
  3. Remove the existing belt from the motor pulley and sub-platter.
  4. Check that the pulley and sub-platter surfaces are clean and dry.
  5. Handle the new belt with clean, dry hands and avoid twisting or overstretching it.
  6. Fit it evenly around the sub-platter and the correct section of the motor pulley.
  7. Rotate the sub-platter gently by hand to confirm that the belt is seated correctly.
  8. Refit the platter and reconnect the power supply.

Do not apply oil, cleaning fluid or belt dressing to the EBLT.

Checking Speed After Fitting

Once the new belt has been installed, check that the platter starts normally and the belt remains correctly positioned.

The Rega Strobe Kit can be used to assess platter speed at 33?, 45 or 78 rpm.

Where a compatible Neo power supply is fitted, fine speed adjustment can be completed while observing the stroboscopic disc.

A replacement belt cannot correct a faulty motor, damaged pulley or worn main bearing. Persistent or irregular speed problems should be inspected by an experienced technician.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Rega turntables use the Reference EBLT as standard?

It is fitted to the Planar 3 RS Edition, Planar 6, Planar 8 and Planar 10. The Planar 6 RS and Naia use multiple Reference belts.

Can it be fitted to a Planar 1, Planar 2 or Planar 3?

Yes. These models normally use the Advanced EBLT, but the Reference version provides the premium upgrade option.

Is it recommended for a Planar 3 with a Neo?

Yes. Rega specifically recommends the Reference EBLT for a Planar 3 using a compatible Neo turntable power supply.

How many belts does the Planar 6 RS use?

The Planar 6 RS uses a twin Reference EBLT drive system, so two belts are required when replacing the complete set.

How many belts does the Rega Naia use?

The Naia uses three Reference EBLT belts. All three should be considered when replacing the complete drive-belt set.

Does it fit the original Rega Planet?

Rega excluded the early 1970s Planet from its original EBLT compatibility guidance. Contact Audio T before ordering for an early Planet.

What is the difference from the Advanced EBLT?

The Reference belt receives an additional curing process designed to improve consistency in the material and provide Rega's highest available belt accuracy.

Can I fit the belt myself?

Yes. On most Rega turntables, replacement involves removing the platter and fitting the belt around the motor pulley and sub-platter.

Can Audio T fit the belt and check the turntable speed?

Yes. Contact your local Audio T store for compatibility advice, belt replacement, speed checking and turntable servicing.
