Ultra-Lightweight Skeletal Plinth
At the heart of the Planar 10 lies an ultra-light skeletal plinth made from aerospace-grade Tancast 8 polyurethane foam. This is sandwiched between high-pressure laminate (HPL) skins for exceptional rigidity. The result? A plinth that is 30% lighter than the RP10, yet significantly stiffer, minimising unwanted resonances while ensuring that every ounce of musical energy is channelled directly from the record groove.
Ceramic Bracing & DB Technology
Rega’s unique Double Brace Technology reaches new heights in the Planar 10 with the introduction of a ceramic top brace and phenolic resin lower brace. These are positioned exactly where structural rigidity is most crucial — between the tonearm mount and the central bearing. By reducing unwanted energy transfer, the Planar 10 allows the cartridge to read the groove with ultimate precision and without distortion.
RB3000 Reference Tonearm
The RB3000 tonearm is the pinnacle of Rega engineering. Built with micron-level precision and entirely free from adhesives or unnecessary mechanical joints, the RB3000 delivers friction-free movement with zero play. Each bearing assembly is hand-finished to less than 1 micron of tolerance, enabling it to trace even the tiniest ridges in a record groove with absolute accuracy. The result is breathtaking clarity, stability, and resolution.
Ceramic Flywheel Platter
A hallmark of the Planar 10 is its bespoke ceramic oxide platter, diamond-cut for absolute flatness and speed stability. This flywheel-effect platter concentrates mass around its perimeter, creating inertia where it matters most, while keeping the centre light for reduced stress on the bearing. This ensures outstanding speed consistency and control.
Precision Hub Bearing Assembly
The Planar 10 introduces a low-mass central bearing made from a single-piece aluminium sub-platter, hardened steel spindle, and custom brass housing. Its clever design reduces vibration and prevents energy storage in the plinth, ensuring the platter rotates with the utmost smoothness and silence.
Next-Generation Motor & PL10 PSU
Rega’s latest 24V low-noise synchronous motor is mounted with techniques directly derived from the Naiad. By coupling the motor securely while isolating vibration, drive stability is maximised. Each motor is hand-tuned to its PL10 PSU, a state-of-the-art external power supply using DSP (Digital Signal Processing) for absolute speed accuracy. The PSU also offers electronic speed change, fine speed adjustment, and superior anti-vibration control — keeping the platter spinning with rock-solid precision.
Reference Drive Belts
After years of development, the Planar 10 uses EBLT drive belts, produced on ultra-accurate tooling originally designed for Formula 1 components. These perfectly round, dimensionally precise belts deliver exceptional consistency and long-term speed stability.

Available in matt Polaris Grey or the striking matt white finish (supplied with a clear dustcover and black mat), the Planar 10 is a visual as well as an engineering statement. Choose it with no cartridge, or pair it with Rega’s reference Apheta 3 or flagship Aphelion 2 moving coil cartridges for a seamless factory-fitted solution.
