The Rega Planar 3 is one of the most celebrated turntables in the world, winning What Hi-Fi? Product of the Year in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, and again in 2024. Replacing the multi-award-winning RP3 was never going to be easy, but the result is a completely re-engineered turntable that carries over just two components from its predecessor.
Every element of the Planar 3 has been designed to extract more detail and deliver greater musicality — from the RB330 precision tonearm to the 12mm ‘Optiwhite’ float glass platter and the improved double-brace plinth structure.
RB330 Precision Tonearm
Developed using the latest 3D CAD & CAM technology and over 35 years of tonearm design expertise, the RB330 is engineered for absolute precision. It features a newly designed bearing housing, intelligent redistribution of mass, and low-friction precision bearings for almost friction-free movement. This ensures more information is retrieved from your vinyl, with less distortion and greater clarity.
Lightweight Rigid Plinth & Double Brace Technology
The high-gloss acrylic laminated plinth is reinforced with an improved double-brace system — a 3mm phenolic bottom brace and a metalised phenolic top brace — mounted between the tonearm base and main bearing for maximum stiffness where it’s needed most. This “stressed beam” design minimises energy absorption and resonance, delivering cleaner, more dynamic sound.
Precision-Built Main Bearing & Sub Platter
The re-engineered brass main hub bearing offers improved fit and reduced stress, while the redesigned sub platter increases accuracy and stiffness for quieter, more stable performance.
12mm Float Glass Platter
The new ‘Optiwhite’ float glass platter with polished edges offers improved manufacturing accuracy and premium aesthetics, ensuring smooth and stable rotation.
Low-Noise Motor & Upgrade Path
The 24V synchronous motor works with an improved motor control PCB and is fully compatible with the Rega Neo PSU (sold separately) for electronic speed change and advanced anti-vibration circuitry.
Isolation & Build Quality
