Audio T Verdict
The Rega Replay makes a proper vinyl system feel approachable. Its factory-fitted Carbon cartridge and preset RB110 tonearm take much of the uncertainty out of getting started, while the compact skeletal plinth gives it a distinctive appearance and a smaller footprint than the Planar 1.
Handmade in the UK, it brings together a 24V synchronous motor, Advanced EBLT drive belt and substantial phenolic resin platter in a turntable weighing just 2.2kg. It is an appealing starting point for a first record collection, a return to vinyl or a compact second system.
The Replay requires a moving magnet phono input or separate phono stage. Its removable dustcover must also be taken off before the turntable is switched on.
A Straightforward Introduction to Rega Vinyl Playback
The Replay is a manually operated belt-drive turntable developed to make good-quality record playback easy to enjoy. Rega spent three years refining the design, combining established components with a new low-mass skeletal plinth and integrated motor module. The result is a compact record player that keeps setup simple while giving the tonearm, cartridge and drive system the attention they deserve.
The Rega Carbon cartridge is fitted and aligned at the factory. With the supplied balance weight pushed fully onto the rear of the RB110 tonearm, the arm is set for the included cartridge without the usual balancing procedure or separate bias adjustment.
Lightweight Skeletal Plinth
The Replay's laminated plinth has a black MDF core and a pared-back skeletal shape. It supports the main bearing, motor and tonearm in a rigid structure while keeping overall mass low. Measuring 415mm wide and 320mm deep with its cover fitted, the Replay takes up less shelf space than the conventional rectangular Planar 1.
Rega's latest foot assembly helps stabilise the turntable and reduce vibration transfer. Position it on a firm, level surface with space to lift off the cover, and keep loudspeakers on separate supports where possible.
RB110 Plug-and-Play Tonearm
The hand-assembled RB110 uses Rega-designed, ultra-low-friction bearings and an ergonomically shaped headshell. Its bias setting is preset at the factory and is not user-adjustable. The supplied 111g balance weight slides onto the rear of the arm until it reaches the stop point, setting the tracking force for the fitted Carbon cartridge.
A finger lift, arm clip and lift/lower mechanism make everyday handling straightforward. Use the cueing lever to lower the stylus onto the record and raise it again at the end of a side.
Factory-Fitted Rega Carbon Cartridge
The Rega Carbon moving magnet cartridge arrives fitted and aligned, so there is no need to install a cartridge before playing your first record. Its conical stylus, carbon cantilever and 2.5mV output suit a conventional moving magnet phono stage.
The stylus assembly is replaceable, allowing a worn tip to be renewed without removing the cartridge body. The optional Rega Carbon Pro upgrade stylus adds a bonded elliptical profile and fits the existing Carbon body without normally disturbing cartridge alignment.
24V Motor Module and Advanced EBLT Belt
Rega's low-noise, low-vibration 24V synchronous AC motor drives the sub-platter through an Advanced EBLT belt. The motor module combines a new circuit board and CNC-machined aluminium pulley with the power input, on/off switch, rear foot and ventilation. The switch sits at the rear, behind the motor cover.
The Replay plays 33 1/3 and 45 rpm records. To change speed, switch the turntable off, remove the mat and platter, and move the belt to the appropriate step on the motor pulley. The upper step is for 33 1/3 rpm and the lower step is for 45 rpm.
23mm Platter and Precision Main Bearing
The 23mm phenolic resin platter provides a flywheel effect to support speed stability. It runs on a factory-sealed precision main bearing with a brass housing designed to provide an accurate fit and reduce stress within the bearing assembly.
A custom white mat supports the record. Its two sides have different textures, with Rega recommending that the rougher side faces down against the platter for improved grip.
Removable Custom Dustcover
The Replay includes a purpose-designed removable dustcover with an anti-rotational device. It lifts away completely for listening, giving clear access to the record and tonearm. This differs from the hinged cover supplied with the Planar 1.
Simple Initial Setup
Prepare the Turntable
- Unpack carefully and keep the turntable upright.
- Remove the packing card beneath the sub-platter.
- Fit the platter and mat, with the rougher mat surface facing down.
- Push the balance weight fully onto the tonearm to its stop point.
- Place the turntable on a firm, level support.
Connect and Play
- Connect the RCA leads to a suitable MM phono input or phono stage.
- Connect the supplied Rega PS2 power supply.
- Check that the belt is set for the required speed.
- Remove the dustcover and cartridge stylus guard.
- Use the cueing lever to lower the stylus onto your record.
Connecting the Replay to Your System
The Replay provides an analogue phono-level signal and does not have a built-in phono stage. Its Carbon cartridge needs a moving magnet phono stage to amplify and equalise that signal before it reaches a standard amplifier or powered-speaker input.
Amplifier with an MM Phono Input
Connect the Replay's RCA leads directly to the amplifier's moving magnet phono input. The Rega io integrated amplifier is one suitable example, combining an MM phono stage with amplification for a pair of passive speakers.
Amplifier or Powered Speakers with a Line Input
Add a separate MM phono stage, such as the Rega Fono Mini A2D, between the Replay and the line input. Connect the phono stage's output to AUX, Line or another suitable analogue input.
The tonearm cable is earthed internally through the left channel, so a separate turntable earth lead is not required. If you are unsure which input to use, our Audio T store teams can help check your equipment before you order.
Replay or Planar 1?
Both turntables offer an RB110 tonearm, fitted Carbon cartridge, 24V synchronous motor and phenolic resin platter. The main practical differences are their construction, size and dustcover arrangement.
Rega Replay
A compact skeletal design weighing 2.2kg, with a removable custom dustcover and integrated motor module. Its 415 x 320mm footprint makes it worth considering where shelf space is limited or you prefer its distinctive open design.
Rega Planar 1
The Rega Planar 1 uses a conventional rectangular plinth and hinged dustcover. It weighs 4.2kg, has a 447 x 360mm footprint and offers Matt Black, Matt White or Walnut Effect finishes.
Who Is the Rega Replay For?
The Replay suits first-time turntable owners, listeners returning to records and anyone building a compact vinyl system. Its preset arm and fitted cartridge make it particularly useful if you want straightforward setup. It is a manual turntable: you cue the arm yourself, change speed by moving the belt and lift the stylus at the end of each side.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Rega Replay include a cartridge?
Yes. A Rega Carbon moving magnet cartridge is fitted and aligned at the factory.
Do I need a separate phono stage?
Only if your amplifier or powered speakers do not already have a suitable moving magnet phono input. The Replay cannot connect directly to a standard AUX or Line input without a phono stage between them.
Can I play records with the dustcover fitted?
No. Remove the dustcover before switching on. Rega specifically instructs owners never to power the Replay with its lid fitted.
Do I need to balance the tonearm or set the bias?
With the supplied Carbon cartridge, push the included balance weight fully onto the rear of the RB110 until it reaches the stop point. Bias is preset and requires no adjustment.
How do I change between 33 1/3 and 45 rpm?
Switch off, lift off the mat and platter, and move the belt between the pulley steps. The upper step selects 33 1/3 rpm and the lower step selects 45 rpm.
Can I replace or upgrade the stylus?
Yes. The Carbon uses a replaceable stylus assembly. The optional Rega Carbon Pro is a compatible bonded elliptical upgrade for the existing cartridge body.
What does Rega's lifetime warranty cover?
Rega's Lifetime Limited Warranty covers confirmed manufacturing defects, subject to its conditions. Normal wear and consumable parts are excluded. Keep your proof of purchase and contact Audio T if you need warranty support.
