Audio T Verdict
The DALI SONIK CINEMA is a versatile home cinema speaker designed to reproduce dialogue, music and effects with clarity and consistency.
Twin 5¼-inch Clarity Cone drivers provide a natural and articulate midrange, while DALI's SMC Essential magnet technology helps reduce distortion as the soundtrack becomes more demanding.
A 29mm low-loss soft-dome tweeter delivers clear high frequencies across a wide listening area. Unlike the larger SONIK floorstanders, the CINEMA uses a conventional soft dome rather than DALI's Hybrid Tweeter system.
Its horizontal or vertical placement makes it considerably more flexible than a conventional centre speaker. Use one beneath a screen, position a pair vertically as front speakers or install several as matching left, centre, right and surround channels.
For a SONIK home cinema system, the CINEMA provides an affordable and well-matched route to clear dialogue, convincing effects and consistent sound across the room.
DALI SONIK CINEMA LCR Speaker
The DALI SONIK CINEMA is a passive 2-way loudspeaker designed for left, centre, right and surround channel use.
It contains two 5¼-inch Clarity Cone SMC bass and midrange drivers, a 29mm soft-dome tweeter and front-facing bass-reflex ports.
The speaker is supplied individually and can be positioned horizontally or vertically on a suitable stand, shelf or substantial item of furniture.
Sold Individually
The listed price covers one DALI SONIK CINEMA speaker.
A conventional system normally requires one centre speaker. A matching front LCR installation using SONIK CINEMA for the left, centre and right channels requires three.
A Separate Amplifier Is Required
The SONIK CINEMA is a passive loudspeaker and must be connected to a suitable AV receiver, integrated amplifier or power amplifier.
- No built-in amplification
- No Bluetooth or Wi-Fi
- No HDMI or digital audio inputs
- No built-in room correction
- No network streaming services
Flexible LCRS Placement
The SONIK CINEMA can be used horizontally beneath a television or projection screen as a conventional centre speaker.
It can also be positioned vertically as a front left, front right or surround speaker. This makes it possible to use identical speakers across several channels for particularly consistent tonal matching.
The DALI logo on the magnetic grille can be rotated so that it remains correctly orientated in either position.
Horizontal or Vertical, Without Tweeter Rotation
The SONIK CINEMA is designed to operate in either landscape or portrait orientation. Only the grille logo needs to be rotated when its position changes.
Twin 5¼-Inch Clarity Cone Drivers
The two bass and midrange drivers use DALI's Clarity Cone paper and wood-fibre diaphragms.
The cone profile is inspired by technology developed for DALI's higher-performance loudspeakers and is designed to combine low mass, rigidity and controlled resonance.
This helps voices remain natural and intelligible while giving music and cinematic effects useful body and dynamic impact.
SMC Essential Magnet Technology
DALI's Soft Magnetic Composite material is positioned within the voice coil's working area.
It helps reduce magnetic hysteresis and eddy currents that can contribute to distortion and uneven driver movement.
The result is a cleaner and more relaxed midrange, particularly useful for dialogue and other information concentrated around the human voice.
29mm Low-Loss Soft-Dome Tweeter
A generously sized 29mm soft-dome tweeter reproduces frequencies above the 2,200Hz crossover point.
Its lightweight woven diaphragm provides a broad operating range and helps create a smooth transition from the twin Clarity Cone drivers.
DALI's Wide Dispersion Sound Principle supports clear treble across several seating positions rather than concentrating the sound into one narrow area.
Front Bass-Reflex Ports
Front-facing bass-reflex ports allow the SONIK CINEMA to work relatively close to the wall behind it.
The ports are tuned to 46Hz and contribute to the speaker's specified low-frequency response of 46Hz.
DALI recommends a rear-wall distance between 0cm and 50cm, making the speaker suitable for shelves and television furniture where space is limited.
The front ports must remain clear of cabinet doors, decorative objects and other obstructions.
Stand and Shelf Placement
The supporting surface must be strong, flat and large enough for the speaker's 571mm width and 214mm depth when positioned horizontally.
At 7.9kg, it should not be placed on lightweight or unstable furniture.
Rubber pads are supplied to provide a secure contact surface and help reduce vibration between the cabinet and furniture.
Do Not Place the Speaker Inside a Fully Enclosed Cabinet
The front ports need clear airflow and the amplifier must be able to calibrate the speaker correctly within its final position.
Any furniture used must also support the speaker safely without obstructing its drivers or ports.
Amplifier and AV Receiver Matching
The SONIK CINEMA has a sensitivity of 89.5dB, a nominal impedance of 6 ohms and a recommended amplifier range of 25W to 150W.
Its relatively high sensitivity makes it suitable for many modern AV receivers, although available power will depend on how many channels are being driven simultaneously.
A capable receiver or power amplifier will help preserve dialogue clarity and dynamic impact during demanding film soundtracks.
Matching a SONIK Home Cinema System
The SONIK CINEMA shares its Clarity Cone, SMC Essential and soft-dome tweeter technologies with the wider SONIK range.
This helps maintain a consistent tonal character as voices, effects and music move between the front and surround channels.
Choose SONIK CINEMA When
- A conventional centre speaker is required
- Horizontal or vertical placement is useful
- An identical-speaker front LCR system is planned
- The system uses SONIK stereo speakers
- Stand or shelf placement is available
Consider SONIK ON-WALL When
- A slimmer wall-mounted speaker is preferred
- Floor and furniture space are limited
- A discreet surround speaker is required
- Direct wall installation is the priority
- A shallower cabinet is needed
The DALI SONIK ON-WALL provides a slimmer alternative for wall-mounted stereo and surround installations.
SONIK CINEMA or RUBIKORE CINEMA?
Choose SONIK CINEMA When
- The system uses SONIK speakers
- Compact dimensions are important
- A 6-ohm speaker suits the amplifier
- Strong performance and value are priorities
- A soft-dome tweeter is preferred
Choose RUBIKORE CINEMA When
- The system uses RUBIKORE speakers
- Greater output and bass scale are required
- Twin 6½-inch drivers suit the room
- DALI's Hybrid Tweeter is preferred
- A larger premium cabinet can be accommodated
The DALI RUBIKORE CINEMA is the more ambitious option for larger rooms and premium RUBIKORE systems.
Installation and Setup Guidance
- Confirm that the supporting shelf, stand or furniture is suitable for 7.9kg.
- Leave the front bass-reflex ports completely unobstructed.
- Position the speaker between 0cm and 50cm from the rear wall.
- Use the supplied rubber pads for stability and vibration control.
- Place the speaker as close to the screen as practical.
- Avoid positioning the cabinet behind a solid television unit door.
- Maintain correct positive and negative speaker-cable polarity.
- Set the speaker as small when using AV receiver bass management.
- Redirect the deepest bass and LFE channel to a suitable subwoofer.
- Repeat room correction after moving or replacing any speaker.
