The Wharfedale Diamond 12.4i is the model for anyone who likes what the Diamond range does but wants it delivered on a considerably bigger scale. Twin 150mm Klarity drivers, a 40.8-litre cabinet and bass extension down to 35Hz give this flagship floorstander genuine low-frequency authority, while its 89dB sensitivity and relatively benign 5O minimum impedance mean you do not need a monster amplifier simply to make it work.

What makes the 12.4i appealing is that Wharfedale has not chased scale at the expense of the qualities that make the smaller Diamond models so easy to enjoy. The same polypropylene and mica Klarity cone technology, carefully damped textile tweeter, sophisticated crossover components and resonance-controlled cabinet construction are all here, but with considerably more cabinet volume and cone area behind them.

For medium-to-large rooms, especially where rock, electronic, orchestral and other large-scale music make up a good part of the listening, the 12.4i is a lot of speaker for the money. It takes the same fundamental engineering principles found in the smaller models and gives them a substantially larger acoustic platform, with twin 150mm drivers and more than 40 litres of internal cabinet volume.

The result is designed for customers who want greater low-frequency depth, more dynamic headroom and the ability to fill a larger room without leaving the relatively affordable Diamond family.

A Proper Full-Size Floorstander

At approximately 1.15 metres high once its floorstanding base arrangement is taken into account, Diamond 12.4i is noticeably more substantial than the 12.3i.

A Standmount Doesn't Automatically Take Less Floor Space

A large standmount such as Diamond 12.2i still needs a substantial pair of stands.
