The Wharfedale Diamond 12.3i is where the Diamond 12i range moves from compact standmount speakers into proper floorstanding territory, but it does so without becoming physically imposing. At only 180mm wide, it is an unusually slim tower, yet two 130mm Klarity drivers, a 26.6-litre cabinet and 40Hz bass extension give it much more scale and authority than its narrow front baffle suggests.

The clever bit is the 2.5-way configuration. Instead of asking both 130mm drivers to reproduce exactly the same frequency range, Wharfedale uses them to share the lower-frequency workload while one continues further into the midrange before handing over to the 25mm textile-dome tweeter. That gives the 12.3i the additional cone area and bass capability of a twin-driver floorstander without turning it into a more complicated full three-way design.

For a typical living room, the 12.3i may be the sweet spot of the Diamond floorstanders. It has enough bass and dynamic ability to make a separate subwoofer unnecessary for most music systems, is easier to accommodate than the larger 12.4i and avoids the cost and visual bulk of putting a large standmount such as the 12.2i on substantial stands. The First Floorstander in the Diamond 12i Range

Diamond 12.3i sits immediately above the Diamond 12.2i standmount and below the larger Diamond 12.4i floorstander.

Can Diamond 12.3i Work in a Small Room?

Yes, provided there is enough space around the speakers.

Wharfedale recommends greater wall clearance for the floorstanding models than for the standmounts, so a very cramped room may actually favour Diamond 12.1i or 12.2i.

Wharfedale's Placement Starting Point

The Diamond 12i manual recommends starting with the 12.3i:

Why 200mm From the Rear Wall?
