Monitor Audio Bronze 300 7G Floorstanding Speakers

Audio T Verdict

The Bronze 300 7G sits at the top of Monitor Audio's Bronze range and gives you a proper full-size floorstander without demanding the sort of room normally associated with larger loudspeakers. At just over a metre tall it remains relatively slim, but two 6-inch C-CAM drivers give it the scale and bass extension to work convincingly in larger rooms.

The seventh generation is more than a cosmetic refresh. Monitor Audio has revised the Gold Dome tweeter and waveguide, increased the voice-coil diameter of the C-CAM drivers, introduced a progressive spider arrangement, redesigned the crossover and strengthened the floor-coupling system.

For music it gives you the scale and low-frequency reach that makes a floorstander worthwhile, while the matching Bronze Centre, On-Wall and AMS models mean the same pair can also form the front of a properly matched home cinema system.

Monitor Audio Bronze 300 7G

The Bronze 300 7G is the flagship floorstanding loudspeaker in Monitor Audio's seventh-generation Bronze Series.

Its slim 2.5-way design combines a 25mm C-CAM Gold Dome tweeter with two 6-inch C-CAM drivers, one operating through the bass and midrange and the second concentrating on the lower frequencies.

  • 2.5-way floorstanding design
  • 25mm C-CAM Gold Dome tweeter
  • UD Waveguide II
  • 6-inch C-CAM bass-mid driver
  • 6-inch C-CAM bass driver
  • Revised 7G crossover
  • HiVe II bass-reflex port
  • Strengthened outrigger system
  • Rubber feet and carpet spikes
  • Supplied as a pair

2.5-Way Driver Configuration

The Bronze 300 7G uses a 2.5-way arrangement rather than running both 6-inch drivers identically across the complete bass and midrange.

One C-CAM driver handles bass and midrange information before handing over to the tweeter at 2.6kHz. The second 6-inch driver concentrates on the lower frequencies, rolling out above 470Hz.

This gives the Bronze 300 the additional radiating area and bass capability of a twin-driver floorstander while retaining a dedicated driver to handle the critical midrange region.

Lower Crossover

470Hz between the dedicated bass section and the bass-mid driver.

Upper Crossover

2.6kHz between the bass-mid driver and C-CAM Gold Dome tweeter.

Latest C-CAM Gold Dome Tweeter

The Bronze Series 7G uses the latest generation of Monitor Audio's 25mm C-CAM Gold Dome tweeter.

Monitor Audio has made the seventh-generation dome thinner, lighter and more rigid than the version used in the previous Bronze generation.

The tweeter sits behind a distinctive aluminium-etched hexagonal protective grille and works with Monitor Audio's UD Waveguide II.

The waveguide controls high-frequency dispersion and assists time alignment with the larger bass-mid driver, while also allowing the tweeter to work cleanly down to the selected crossover region.

C-CAM Bass and Midrange Drivers

Both 6-inch drivers use Monitor Audio's C-CAM cone technology.

C-CAM stands for Ceramic-Coated Aluminium Magnesium and has been central to Monitor Audio loudspeaker development for many years. The aim is to combine a low moving mass with a rigid cone structure capable of behaving consistently across its operating range.

The Bronze 300 uses one driver across the bass and midrange and a second dedicated primarily to bass reproduction.

New 28.5mm Voice Coils

Monitor Audio substantially revised the Bronze bass-driver motor system for the seventh generation.

The voice coils have increased from 25mm in the previous generation to 28.5mm, helping increase power handling and control.

A new progressive spider design also provides more controlled driver movement as excursion increases.

Together, these revisions are intended to provide greater low-frequency extension and cleaner behaviour when the loudspeaker is being driven harder.

34Hz In-Room Bass Extension

Monitor Audio specifies the Bronze 300 7G with an in-room -6dB frequency response of 34Hz to 30kHz.

That gives it substantially deeper low-frequency extension than the smaller Bronze 50 standmount and allows the Bronze 300 to operate as a full-range stereo loudspeaker in many systems without automatically requiring a subwoofer.

A subwoofer can still be useful where very deep bass or home cinema effects are priorities.

HiVe II Bass-Reflex Port

The Bronze 300 uses a ported enclosure incorporating Monitor Audio's HiVe II technology.

The port is tuned to 38Hz and forms part of the system that allows the relatively slim cabinet to achieve its specified low-frequency extension.

As with any ported floorstander, placement relative to rear and side walls influences bass balance, so final positioning is best adjusted in the actual listening room rather than simply pushing the speakers as far back as possible.

Give Them Some Room to Work

The Bronze 300 is capable of genuine low bass, so speaker placement matters. Moving the cabinets closer to room boundaries generally increases perceived bass output, while bringing them further into the room can reduce excess low-frequency reinforcement and improve stereo imaging.

New Bronze 7G Crossover

Monitor Audio developed a new crossover network for the Bronze Series 7G.

The company combines extensive measurement with prolonged listening during crossover development, treating the individual drivers, enclosure and filter network as one complete acoustic system.

For the Bronze 300, the crossover points are 470Hz and 2.6kHz, integrating the dedicated bass driver, bass-mid driver and tweeter within the 2.5-way arrangement.

88dB Sensitivity

The Bronze 300 has a free-field sensitivity of 88dB at 2.83V/1m.

Its nominal impedance is 8 ohms, with Monitor Audio specifying a minimum of 4.4 ohms at 38Hz.

That makes sensible amplifier matching important, but it does not require unusually specialised amplification.

Amplifier Matching

Monitor Audio provides separate recommended amplifier figures depending on the amplifier's rated load:

  • Into 8 ohms: 40 to 150W RMS
  • Into 4 ohms: 75 to 300W RMS

The Bronze 300 itself has a continuous power-handling specification of 150W under the CTA 426-B standard.

The best amplifier choice is not simply the one with the largest wattage figure. Current delivery, control and the size of the listening room all matter, so Audio T can help match the speakers to an appropriate integrated amplifier or AV receiver.

118dB Maximum Peak SPL

Monitor Audio specifies a maximum peak output of 118dB using the AES75 Z-weighted measurement method.

This helps illustrate the additional scale available from the flagship Bronze floorstander compared with using a smaller cabinet and single bass-mid driver.

Strengthened Outriggers

The Bronze 300 7G uses a redesigned outrigger arrangement that is stronger and more substantial than the system used on the previous Bronze generation.

The outriggers widen the effective footprint of the cabinet and provide adjustment for accurate levelling.

They also allow the correct floor interface to be selected:

  • Integrated rubber feet: for hard floors
  • Spikes: for carpeted or suitable soft floor surfaces

Correct levelling is worth taking the time over, particularly with a tall floorstander where stability affects both safety and the consistency of the speaker's mechanical support.

Just Over One Metre Tall

With its accessories fitted, each Bronze 300 measures:

  • Height: 1005mm
  • Width: 269mm
  • Depth: 392mm
  • Weight: 15.6kg each

Despite being the flagship Bronze floorstander, its relatively narrow cabinet allows it to fit comfortably into many living rooms without the visual bulk associated with much larger loudspeakers.

Three Finishes

The current Bronze 300 7G is available in:

  • Walnut
  • Black
  • White

The rest of the Bronze 7G range is offered in matching finishes, allowing a consistent appearance when building a multi-channel system.

Part of a Complete Bronze 7G AV Range

The Bronze 300 is equally at home at the front of a music system or as the main left and right pair in a home cinema installation.

Matching Bronze Series 7G models include:

  • Bronze 50 7G bookshelf speakers
  • Bronze Centre 7G
  • Bronze On-Wall 7G
  • Bronze AMS 7G Dolby Atmos speakers

The Bronze AMS 7G is specifically designed to sit directly on top of either the Bronze 50 or Bronze 300, providing a neat upward-firing Dolby Atmos option without requiring a separate stand or shelf.

Is the Bronze 300 7G the largest speaker in the Bronze range?

Yes. It is the flagship floorstanding loudspeaker in the current Bronze Series 7G.

Is it a two-way or three-way speaker?

Neither in the conventional sense. The Bronze 300 uses a 2.5-way design, with one 6-inch driver covering bass and midrange while the second concentrates on the lower frequencies.

How many drivers does each speaker use?

Each cabinet contains two 6-inch C-CAM drivers and one 25mm C-CAM Gold Dome tweeter.

What is C-CAM?

C-CAM is Monitor Audio's Ceramic-Coated Aluminium Magnesium cone technology, designed to combine low mass with high rigidity.
