Audio T Verdict
The Bronze 50 7G is the sort of speaker that makes a great deal of sense when you want a proper Hi-Fi system without filling the room with loudspeakers. Its cabinet is compact enough for smaller spaces, but the 6-inch C-CAM driver gives it considerably more authority than its proportions might suggest.
Monitor Audio has also made some worthwhile changes for the seventh generation. The Gold Dome tweeter is lighter and more rigid, the bass-mid driver gets a larger voice coil and progressive spider, and the crossover has been redesigned to bring the whole system together.
Use them on a good pair of stands, give them sensible amplification and the Bronze 50 7G makes a very appealing first serious loudspeaker. The matching Bronze Centre, On-Wall and AMS models also make them an easy starting point for a Bronze 7G home cinema system.

Latest C-CAM Gold Dome Tweeter
High frequencies are handled by the latest version of Monitor Audio's 25mm C-CAM Gold Dome tweeter.
For Bronze Series 7G, Monitor Audio has made the dome thinner, lighter and more rigid than the version used in Bronze 6G.
The tweeter sits behind an aluminium-etched hexagonal protective grille and works in conjunction with the UD Waveguide II.
UD Waveguide II
The Uniform Dispersion Waveguide II controls the way high frequencies are distributed into the room and assists the acoustic integration between the tweeter and larger bass-mid driver.
Monitor Audio also uses the waveguide to improve time alignment and allow the tweeter to operate effectively towards its lower crossover region.
For the Bronze 50 7G, the crossover between the bass-mid driver and tweeter is set at 3kHz.
6-Inch C-CAM Bass-Mid Driver
A single 6-inch driver handles the bass and midrange.
The cone uses Monitor Audio's long-established C-CAM technology, short for Ceramic-Coated Aluminium Magnesium.
The principle is to combine a relatively low moving mass with a rigid cone structure, helping the driver maintain controlled piston-like movement across its working range.
New 28.5mm Voice Coil
Monitor Audio revised the motor system used by the Bronze Series for the seventh generation.
The bass-mid voice coil has increased from 25mm on the previous generation to 28.5mm, giving the motor system greater capacity and control.
This is combined with substantial magnet assemblies designed to provide the driver with the control required for both low-frequency movement and accurate midrange reproduction.
Progressive Spider Design
The Bronze 7G bass-mid driver also uses a new progressive spider.
The spider forms part of the driver's suspension and helps control the movement of the cone and voice coil as excursion increases.
Monitor Audio developed the new arrangement to improve excursion linearity and maintain more controlled driver movement when greater bass output is required.
41Hz In-Room Bass Extension
Despite the relatively compact cabinet, Monitor Audio specifies an in-room -6dB response extending down to 41Hz.
This gives the Bronze 50 useful low-frequency extension for a speaker using a single 6-inch bass-mid unit and means a subwoofer is not automatically necessary for a conventional stereo system.
A subwoofer can still be added where deeper bass, larger-room output or home cinema use makes it worthwhile.
HiVe II Bass-Reflex System
The Bronze 50 7G uses a ported enclosure incorporating Monitor Audio's HiVe II technology.
The port is tuned to 47Hz and supplements the output of the 6-inch bass-mid driver at low frequencies.
As with any ported speaker, the relationship between the cabinet and nearby room boundaries influences the final bass balance, so positioning is worth experimenting with rather than simply placing the speakers wherever they fit.
Speaker Placement
Start with the speakers positioned on solid supports with some space around them, then adjust their distance from the rear and side walls by listening. Moving a speaker closer to room boundaries will usually increase low-frequency reinforcement, while moving it further into the room can help reduce excessive bass and improve stereo imaging.
New Bronze 7G Crossover
A newly developed crossover integrates the 6-inch C-CAM bass-mid driver with the Gold Dome tweeter at 3kHz.
Monitor Audio combines measurement and extensive listening during its crossover development, treating the drive units, cabinet and crossover network as one complete loudspeaker system.
The Bronze 7G crossover uses carefully selected components and is designed specifically around the revised drivers rather than carrying over the network from the previous generation.
86dB Sensitivity
The Bronze 50 7G has a free-field sensitivity of 86dB at 2.83V/1m.
Nominal impedance is 8 ohms, with Monitor Audio specifying a minimum impedance of 4.0 ohms at 200Hz.
These figures mean amplifier quality and current delivery still matter, particularly if the speakers are being used at higher levels or in a larger room.
Amplifier Matching
Monitor Audio publishes separate amplifier recommendations according to the amplifier's rated load:
- Into 8 ohms: 30 to 100W RMS
- Into 4 ohms: 50 to 200W RMS
The Bronze 50 itself has a continuous power-handling specification of 100W under the CTA 426-B measurement standard.
There is no need to chase the highest wattage figure simply for the sake of it. A well-matched amplifier with good control is more useful than choosing on power output alone.
112dB Maximum Peak SPL
Monitor Audio specifies a maximum peak sound pressure level of 112dB using the AES75 Z-weighted measurement method.
For a compact two-way loudspeaker, this provides plenty of useful headroom for normal stereo listening and makes the Bronze 50 equally suitable for use within a multi-channel system.
Designed for Speaker Stands
The Bronze 50 can be positioned on suitable furniture, but a dedicated speaker stand will normally provide the more consistent mechanical support and listening height.
Monitor Audio specifically identifies the ST-2 Universal Stand as compatible with the Bronze 50 7G.
A suitable stand also makes it easier to experiment with distance from the walls, toe-in and the spacing between the left and right speakers.
Why Use Speaker Stands?
A good stand provides the loudspeaker with a stable support and helps position the tweeter at an appropriate height for seated listening. It also gives you far more freedom to position the speakers properly than placing them on a bookshelf simply because that's where there happens to be space.
Compact Dimensions
With all standard accessories fitted, each Bronze 50 measures:
- Height: 335mm
- Width: 185mm
- Depth: 328mm
- Weight: 6.4kg each
The relatively narrow front baffle and moderate cabinet height make the Bronze 50 particularly easy to accommodate in smaller and medium-sized listening rooms.
Three Finishes
The Bronze 50 7G is available in three current finishes:
Matching finishes are available across the Bronze 7G range for customers building a complete multi-channel system.
Supplied as a Pair
The Bronze 50 7G is supplied as a stereo pair.
One pair therefore provides everything required for the left and right loudspeaker channels of a conventional stereo system.
