Advance Paris AIR65 Powered Speakers and Dual CS 418 Turntable Bundle

Audio T Verdict

This Advance Paris and Dual bundle provides everything required to enjoy vinyl through a proper stereo speaker system, without needing to find space for a separate amplifier or phono stage.

The Dual CS 418 combines manual belt-drive operation with an Ortofon 2M Red cartridge, aluminium platter and solid MDF plinth. Its switchable phono preamplifier makes it easy to connect directly to the AIR65 speakers.

Built-in aptX Bluetooth, optical and coaxial digital inputs and a subwoofer output give the system plenty of flexibility beyond vinyl, making it equally suitable for music from a phone, television or compatible digital source.

Advance Paris AIR65 and Dual CS 418 Turntable Bundle

This complete stereo system combines the Advance Paris AIR65 powered speakers with the Dual CS 418 manual turntable.

The AIR65’s stereo amplifier is built into the right-hand master speaker, while the left speaker connects to it with speaker cable. This removes the need for a separate integrated amplifier while retaining genuine left and right stereo separation.

The Dual CS 418 is supplied with an Ortofon 2M Red moving-magnet cartridge and a switchable internal phono preamplifier.

Bundle Contents

  • Pair of Advance Paris AIR65 powered speakers
  • Dual CS 418 manual belt-drive turntable
  • Factory-fitted Ortofon 2M Red cartridge
  • AIR65 remote control
  • Dual dust cover, rubber mat and 45rpm adaptor
  • Dual RCA audio cable and power supply

The WTX-MicroStream Wi-Fi network player is optional and is not included with the standard bundle unless specifically stated.

Simple Turntable Connection

The CS 418 and AIR65 both contain moving-magnet phono amplification, giving you two ways to connect the system.

Use the AIR65 Phono Stage

  • Set the CS 418 output selector to PHONO
  • Connect the turntable to the AIR65 AUX1 input
  • Set the AIR65 AUX1 selector to PHONO
  • Connect the turntable earth lead to the AIR65 grounding terminal

Use the CS 418 Phono Stage

  • Set the CS 418 output selector to LINE
  • Connect the turntable to the AIR65 AUX1 input
  • Set the AIR65 AUX1 selector to LINE

Avoid Using Both Phono Stages Together

Do not set both the turntable and speakers to PHONO at the same time. This would amplify the signal twice and cause severe distortion.

Both products must be set to the matching connection arrangement shown above.

Advance Paris AIR65 Powered Speakers

The AIR65 is a compact powered loudspeaker system with a stereo amplifier built into the right-hand master enclosure.

The amplifier delivers 55W RMS per channel, with a published instantaneous output exceeding 100W.

The passive left speaker connects to the master speaker using conventional speaker cable. Only the master speaker requires mains power.

Two-Way Speaker Design

Each enclosure combines a 130mm treated-paper mid/bass driver with a 25mm treated fabric-dome tweeter.

The rear-ported cabinet provides a published frequency response of 45Hz to 22kHz, with an active-subwoofer output available where greater bass extension is required.

Built-In aptX Bluetooth

Bluetooth is built into the AIR65 and supports the aptX codec.

A compatible smartphone, tablet or computer can therefore play music wirelessly without requiring an additional receiver.

The Bluetooth source and speakers must both support aptX for that codec to be used.

Optical and Coaxial Digital Inputs

One optical and one coaxial digital input allow additional equipment to use the AIR65’s Wolfson WM8761 DAC.

Suitable sources may include:

  • Televisions
  • CD players and transports
  • Games consoles
  • Network music players

A connected television should normally be configured for stereo PCM rather than Dolby Digital or another multichannel format.

Two Analogue Inputs

AUX1 can operate as either a conventional stereo line input or a moving-magnet phono input.

AUX2 provides a second line-level input for a CD player, external streamer, DAC or another compatible analogue source.

Optional Wi-Fi Streaming

The AIR65 includes Bluetooth but does not contain Wi-Fi network streaming as standard.

An optional Advance Paris WTX-MicroStream can be connected to AUX2 and powered from the adjacent 5V DC output. This adds compatible network services, internet radio and music-library playback through the Advance PlayStream app.

Switch the speakers off before fitting or removing the WTX-MicroStream.

Dual CS 418 Manual Turntable

The Dual CS 418 is a manual belt-drive turntable with electronic selection for 33?, 45 and 78rpm records.

The user places the tonearm over the record and lowers it using the damped cueing lever. At the end of the record, the tonearm must be lifted and returned manually.

This simple mechanical arrangement allows the design to concentrate on stable rotation, cartridge alignment and careful record tracking.

Ortofon 2M Red Cartridge

An Ortofon 2M Red moving-magnet cartridge is fitted and aligned at the factory.

The removable headshell makes future cartridge servicing or replacement more straightforward, while the adjustable counterweight and anti-skating control allow the tonearm to be set correctly.

Dual recommends a tracking-force range of 1.6g to 2.0g for the supplied cartridge.

Three Electronic Speed Settings

A rotary control selects 33?, 45 or 78rpm without manually moving the drive belt.

The supplied Ortofon 2M Red stylus is intended for modern microgroove records. Playing 78rpm shellac discs requires a suitable 78rpm stylus or cartridge.

Aluminium Platter and Belt Drive

The 305mm die-cast aluminium platter weighs 850g including its rubber mat.

A precision-cut belt connects the DC motor to the platter, while rubber motor mountings help reduce the transmission of unwanted vibration.

The main bearing uses a hardened-steel spindle running in a brass bushing.

Solid MDF Plinth

The turntable uses an MDF plinth with a black vinyl finish rather than a lightweight hollow plastic chassis.

Large elastomer-damped feet help isolate the cartridge and tonearm from vibration reaching the supporting furniture.

A removable hinged dust cover is included.

Speaker and Turntable Positioning

Place the AIR65 speakers at a similar distance from the main listening position, with the tweeters close to seated ear height.

Leave approximately 10cm behind the rear ports as an initial positioning guide. Moving the speakers closer to a wall will normally increase perceived bass.

The turntable should be placed on a stable and level surface, away from the speakers and their supporting furniture wherever practical.

Keeping the turntable away from strong loudspeaker vibration helps reduce acoustic feedback and protects record playback clarity.
