Audio T Verdict
The Advance Paris AIR65 Connect combines a proper pair of stereo loudspeakers with built-in amplification, aptX Bluetooth and an excellent selection of wired inputs.
Its optical, coaxial and analogue connections accommodate equipment including a television, CD player and network streamer, while the switchable moving-magnet phono input allows a compatible turntable to connect directly.
Choose the Bluetooth-only version for a simple wireless system, or the WTX-MicroStream package to add Wi-Fi streaming, internet radio, Spotify Connect and network music playback.
Advance Paris AIR65 Connect Powered Speakers
The Advance Paris AIR65 is a compact powered stereo loudspeaker system that requires no separate integrated amplifier.
The right-hand master speaker contains the stereo amplifier, source connections and system controls. The left speaker is passive and connects to the master enclosure using conventional speaker cable.
This arrangement provides genuine left and right stereo separation while keeping the system considerably simpler than a traditional amplifier and passive-speaker setup.
Master and Passive Speaker Arrangement
The AIR65 is not a completely cable-free speaker system.
The master speaker requires mains power and the supplied speaker cable carries the amplified left-channel signal to the passive speaker.
2 × 55W Stereo Amplification
The amplifier built into the master speaker delivers 55W RMS to each channel, with a published instantaneous output exceeding 100W.
Because the amplifier and loudspeaker drivers have been designed as a complete system, there is no need to select or match a separate amplifier.
The AIR65 is particularly well suited to bedrooms, offices, flats and smaller living rooms where space is limited but proper stereo reproduction is still important.
Two-Way Loudspeaker Design
Each enclosure combines a 130mm mid/bass driver with a 25mm dome tweeter.
The woofer uses a treated paper-pulp diaphragm and rubber suspension, helping it combine controlled movement with a natural midrange presentation.
The treated fabric-dome tweeter handles the upper frequencies and is positioned above the woofer for conventional two-way stereo reproduction.
Rear-Ported Cabinet
The rear bass-reflex port is tuned to support the AIR65’s low-frequency performance.
Advance Paris recommends leaving approximately 10cm between the port and the wall or furniture behind the speaker.
Moving the speakers closer to a wall normally increases perceived bass, while bringing them further into the room can provide a leaner and more controlled balance.
45Hz to 22kHz Frequency Response
Advance Paris publishes a frequency response of 45Hz to 22kHz at the stated -3dB limits.
This provides useful bass extension for a compact loudspeaker system, while the dedicated subwoofer output allows deeper low-frequency performance to be added where required.
Built-In aptX Bluetooth
Bluetooth reception is built into every AIR65 system.
A compatible smartphone, tablet or computer can therefore play music wirelessly without requiring a separate adaptor or home network.
The receiver supports the aptX codec, providing improved Bluetooth sound quality when the transmitting device also supports aptX.
Simple Bluetooth Pairing
Select the Bluetooth input using the remote control or the control on the master speaker, then open the Bluetooth settings on the source device and choose AIR65.
The blue indicator flashes while awaiting a connection and remains illuminated once pairing is complete.
If a PIN is requested, the official instructions specify 0000 or 1234.
Bluetooth-Only and Wi-Fi Options
The AIR65 is available in two principal configurations:
- Bluetooth-only speakers
- Speakers supplied with the WTX-MicroStream Wi-Fi network player
The underlying speaker system and built-in aptX Bluetooth receiver remain the same. The WTX-MicroStream package adds network-based music playback.
Check the Selected Option
The WTX-MicroStream is included only with product options specifically described as including the network player.
Bluetooth-only options do not include Wi-Fi streaming as standard.
WTX-MicroStream Wi-Fi Player
The optional WTX-MicroStream is a compact 24-bit/192kHz network player designed to connect to the AIR65’s AUX2/STREAM input.
It receives power from the dedicated DC connection on the master speaker, avoiding the need for another mains adaptor.
The AIR65 must be switched off before the WTX-MicroStream is connected or removed.
Spotify Connect and Music Streaming
The WTX-MicroStream package adds Spotify Connect and access to compatible streaming services through the Advance PlayStream platform.
It also provides internet radio and access to music stored on compatible computers and network drives.
Streaming-service availability can change as applications, firmware and third-party platforms are updated. Individual subscriptions may be required.
Advance PlayStream App
The WTX-MicroStream is controlled through the Advance PlayStream app for compatible iOS and Android devices.
The app provides access to streaming services, internet radio, network libraries, playlists and compatible multiroom operation.
The Bluetooth-only AIR65 does not require the app and is controlled through the source device and supplied remote.
Two Analogue Inputs
The master speaker provides two stereo RCA analogue inputs:
- AUX1, switchable between normal line level and moving-magnet phono
- AUX2/STREAM, for a conventional line-level source or the WTX-MicroStream
Suitable line-level sources include CD players, external DACs, network players and radio tuners.
Moving-Magnet Phono Input
AUX1 can be switched into moving-magnet phono mode, allowing a compatible turntable to connect directly.
A separate grounding terminal is provided for turntables fitted with an earth lead.
Make sure the selector is placed in PHONO mode before using the turntable and returned to LINE when connecting a normal analogue source.
Moving-Coil Cartridges
The built-in phono stage is intended for compatible moving-magnet cartridges.
A low-output moving-coil cartridge will normally require a suitable external phono stage or step-up device.
Optical Digital Input
One optical Toslink input allows a compatible television, CD player, games console or streamer to use the AIR65’s internal DAC.
A connected television should normally be configured for stereo PCM rather than Dolby Digital, DTS or another multichannel format.
The AIR65 does not contain surround-sound decoding.
Coaxial Digital Input
One coaxial S/PDIF input is provided for a compatible CD transport, network player or other digital source.
Use a purpose-designed 75-ohm coaxial digital cable rather than one half of a standard stereo analogue interconnect.
Wolfson WM8761 DAC
Digital-to-analogue conversion is handled by a Wolfson WM8761 DAC.
The converter supports compatible digital signals up to 24-bit/192kHz and is used by sources connected through the optical and coaxial inputs.
Active Subwoofer Output
A mono RCA output allows a compatible active subwoofer to be added.
The subwoofer must contain its own amplifier. Its level, crossover frequency and phase should be adjusted using the controls provided on the subwoofer.
A subwoofer can extend the system’s low-frequency response and provide additional scale in a larger room.
Remote Control Included
The supplied remote provides convenient access to the principal operating functions, including:
- Standby
- Input selection
- Volume adjustment
- Bluetooth pairing
- Bluetooth play and pause
- Previous and next track
Master-Speaker Controls
A rotary control on the master speaker adjusts the listening level.
Pressing the control changes between the available inputs, allowing the system to be operated even when the remote is not immediately available.
Speaker Positioning
For the strongest stereo image, position the two speakers at a similar distance from the main listening position.
The tweeters should ideally be close to seated ear height, with the speakers placed on stable shelves or suitable stands.
The included speaker cable allows the two enclosures to be separated properly rather than being positioned close together like a single-box wireless speaker.
