Audio T Verdict
The Audio-Technica AT-VM750xSH sits near the top of the current VMx range and combines three of the things we particularly like to see in a serious moving-magnet cartridge: an advanced line-contact stylus, a very light and rigid Boron cantilever, and a replaceable stylus system that does not make the whole cartridge disposable when the diamond eventually wears.
At the groove is a nude 2.7 x 0.26mil Shibata diamond. Shibata geometry creates a long vertical contact area against the record groove, allowing the stylus to trace fine modulation and high-frequency information while distributing contact over a larger area than a conventional conical or elliptical profile.
That stylus is mounted to a 0.28mm solid Boron cantilever. Boron combines very low mass with exceptional rigidity, allowing the tiny movements generated at the stylus tip to travel rapidly towards the cartridge generator.
