Audio T Verdict
The Blok Stax 2G LP Shelf is a smart way to keep a vinyl collection alongside the turntable and the rest of the Hi-Fi system, rather than hiding records in separate furniture elsewhere in the room.
Its generous 350mm clearance comfortably accommodates standard 12-inch record sleeves, while the 40kg load capacity provides reassuring support for a substantial collection. It can also house unusually tall audio equipment that will not fit beneath the conventional Stax 2G shelves.
Integrated silicone isolation, mass-fillable supports and a choice of tempered glass or ash-veneered plywood make it a practical and attractive expansion for an existing Stax 2G rack.
Blok Stax 2G LP Shelf and Vinyl Record Storage Module
The Blok Stax 2G LP Shelf is the tallest expansion module in the modular Stax 2G range.
It adds one supporting surface and creates 350mm of usable vertical clearance above the shelf beneath it. This provides sufficient height for upright vinyl-record storage or an unusually tall piece of Hi-Fi or home cinema equipment.
The module is sold individually and must be added to a Stax 2G Base Shelf or an existing compatible Stax 2G rack.
This Is a Shelf Module
The LP Shelf is not a complete freestanding rack and does not include floor feet.
For a simple vinyl furniture arrangement, combine it with the Blok Stax 2G Base Shelf. Blok refers to this two-level configuration as its LP Shelf Collection.
Designed for Vinyl Record Storage
The LP Shelf allows records to remain close to the turntable and audio system while matching the materials and finish of the surrounding Stax 2G furniture.
Its 350mm usable height accommodates standard 12-inch record sleeves when they are stored vertically.
The usable width is approximately 480mm, providing a broad storage area for a growing collection. Blok does not publish a fixed album capacity because the number of records that will fit depends on sleeve thickness, box sets, protective outer sleeves and how tightly the collection is arranged.
40kg Load Capacity
The LP Shelf has a maximum published load capacity of 40kg.
When using it for vinyl storage, the combined weight of all records, box sets and storage accessories must remain below this limit.
Vinyl can become surprisingly heavy when stored in quantity, so avoid estimating capacity purely from the available width. Add records gradually and keep the collection evenly distributed across the shelf.
No Official Record Count
Blok specifies the shelf dimensions and 40kg load limit but does not state how many records it will hold.
The safe capacity should therefore be judged by total weight rather than an assumed number of albums.
Store Records Upright
Records should be stored vertically rather than stacked flat in large piles.
Keep the collection reasonably upright and evenly supported so that sleeves and records are not placed under unnecessary pressure. Avoid packing albums so tightly that they become difficult to remove without damaging their covers.
If the shelf is only partly filled, suitable record supports or dividers can help prevent the collection from leaning heavily to one side. These are not included with the LP Shelf.
Protecting a Vinyl Collection
Position the rack away from prolonged direct sunlight, radiators and other strong heat sources.
Keep records dry and avoid placing the furniture in an area prone to condensation or high humidity. Protective inner and outer sleeves can help reduce dust, surface marks and wear to album covers.

Suitable for Tall Hi-Fi Components
The LP Shelf is not restricted to record storage. Its 350mm clearance can also accommodate unusually tall equipment that will not fit beneath the Shelf 120, Shelf 170 or Shelf 220 modules.
Potential applications include:
- Large power amplifiers
- Valve amplifiers
- Home cinema amplifiers
- Tall music servers
- Large power supplies
- Open-frame or specialist audio equipment
- Components requiring generous ventilation
The equipment must fit securely within the usable shelf area and remain below the 40kg maximum load.
Generous Ventilation Space
The 350mm opening provides considerably more air space than the conventional Stax 2G equipment shelves.
This can make it useful for products that generate significant heat or require access to controls, valves or connections on their upper surfaces.
Always follow the equipment manufacturer’s ventilation instructions. Allow sufficient room for heat to escape and avoid placing objects directly above ventilation grilles.
Check the Complete Equipment Footprint
Measure the component’s height, width and depth, including feet, valves, aerials and protruding connections.
The additional height does not alter the shelf’s 480mm usable width or its published usable depth.
Tempered Black Glass Version
The Black Glass version uses a 10mm tempered-glass shelf with High Gloss Black support sections.
Tempered glass provides a rigid supporting surface with a smooth contemporary appearance that coordinates well with black and silver audio equipment.
The complete glass module measures 363mm high, 602mm wide and 402mm deep and weighs approximately 11.2kg.
Ash-Veneered Plywood Versions
The two wood-finished versions use 13mm plywood shelves with real ash veneer.
Plywood is constructed from bonded layers with alternating grain directions, creating a strong and rigid surface with useful damping characteristics.
The plywood modules measure 365mm high, 602mm wide and 402mm deep.
Three Coordinated Finishes
The LP Shelf is available in:
- Black Glass with High Gloss Black supports
- Black Ash Plywood with Natural Walnut supports
- Natural Ash Plywood with Satin White supports
The shelf and support finishes are supplied as coordinated combinations. Choose the version that matches the existing Stax 2G rack.
Usable Shelf Area
Every finish provides approximately 480mm of usable shelf width.
Usable depth to the beginning of the rear cable cut-out is:
- Approximately 387mm for Black Glass
- Approximately 379mm for both plywood versions
When storing records, their sleeves should sit securely within the available depth without being crushed against the wall or rear cables.
When supporting equipment, all component feet must remain on the solid shelf surface.
Rear Cable Cut-Out
The rear edge of the shelf has a smoothly shaped cut-out that provides additional room for mains leads, interconnects and larger plugs.
This allows the rack to sit closer to a wall while reducing tight cable bends and strain on equipment sockets.
When the space is being used for records, arrange cables so that they cannot press against album sleeves or become trapped behind the collection.
Integrated Silicone Isolation
Silicone isolation pads are positioned between the shelf and its four support sections.
These pads are specified to help absorb vibration and reduce resonance transmission through the completed rack.
The isolation points and modular fixings are concealed once assembly is complete, maintaining the range’s clean modernist appearance.
Mass-Fillable Support Sections
The hollow support sections can be filled with a suitable acoustically inert material to increase their mass and damping.
Each LP Shelf support has an approximate internal capacity of 5.1 litres, the largest capacity of any Stax 2G shelf module.
Mass filling is optional. The module can be assembled and used safely without adding filling material.
Use a Suitable Dry Material
Use a clean, dry and stable filling product intended for audio furniture or speaker stands.
Do not use liquids, wet sand, expanding foam or building materials that could retain moisture, damage the supports or prevent future disassembly.
Concealed Modular Fixings
The LP Shelf connects to the Stax 2G module beneath it through four concealed M10 fixings.
Four M10 bolts are included. The main Blok assembly tool supplied with the Base Shelf or a complete Stax 2G Collection is required when adding or rearranging modules.
Once assembled, the fixings are hidden from normal view.
What Is Included?
The individual LP Shelf module includes:
- One glass or plywood shelf
- Four matching support sections
- Integrated silicone isolation components
- Four M10 modular connection bolts
Floor feet, finishing caps, the main assembly tool and the height-adjustment tool are supplied with the Stax 2G Base Shelf and complete Collections rather than with each expansion module.
Recommended Position in the Rack
Blok’s dedicated LP Shelf Collection places the LP module directly above the Base Shelf.
This is a sensible arrangement for record storage because a substantial vinyl collection can become heavy. Keeping it low in the rack helps maintain a lower centre of gravity and makes the albums easier to browse.
If the module is being used for audio equipment rather than records, its position can be planned around equipment weight, ventilation and cable access.
Adding the Module to an Existing Rack
Remove all equipment and disconnect every cable before changing the rack configuration.
Build or reconfigure the furniture on a clean, protected surface and support each section while its fixings are loosened or tightened.
After installing the LP Shelf:
- Check that every fixing is secure
- Return the empty rack to its final position
- Confirm that the base remains level and stable
- Check the completed height
- Add records or equipment gradually
- Keep the total shelf load below 40kg
Maximum Recommended Rack Height
Blok recommends that a completed Stax 2G rack should not exceed 1100mm in overall height.
The LP Shelf is considerably taller than the standard equipment modules, so its effect on the complete height must be considered before adding further shelves.
Keep heavy items towards the lower levels and avoid placing a tall rack where children, pets or passing traffic could knock it.
LP Shelf or LP Shelf Collection?
This product is the individual LP Shelf module for customers who already own a Stax 2G Base Shelf or complete rack.
The LP Shelf Collection is a preconfigured package containing one Base Shelf and one LP Shelf in matching finishes.
Choose the individual module when expanding an existing rack. Choose the complete Collection when starting a new two-level vinyl storage and turntable setup.
Care and Cleaning
Remove records and audio equipment before carrying out extensive cleaning or structural adjustment.
Use a soft, dry or slightly damp microfibre cloth on the supports and plywood shelves.
Apply glass cleaner to the cloth rather than spraying it directly towards records, equipment, shelf joints or flooring.
Avoid abrasive pads, solvent-based cleaners and excessive moisture.
