Audio T Verdict
The Blok Stax 2G Collection 4 is an elegant and highly practical rack for a more substantial Hi-Fi system.
Its combination of two 170mm equipment spaces and one larger 220mm space accommodates a broad selection of source components and amplifiers, while every shelf can support equipment weighing up to 40kg.
Adjustable floor fittings, integrated isolation and optional mass filling provide a carefully engineered foundation. Its modular construction also means that additional shelves or vinyl storage can be added as the system develops.
Blok Stax 2G Collection 4 Four-Shelf Hi-Fi Rack
The Blok Stax 2G Collection 4 is a complete four-shelf equipment rack from Blok’s modular Stax 2G range.
It combines one Base Shelf, two Shelf 170 modules and one Shelf 220 module, creating four supporting surfaces with three enclosed equipment spaces.
The mixture of shelf heights makes it suitable for systems containing several sources alongside a larger integrated amplifier, preamplifier or power amplifier.
Collection 4 Configuration
- One Stax 2G Base Shelf
- Two Stax 2G Shelf 170 modules
- One Stax 2G Shelf 220 module
- Four equipment-supporting surfaces
- Two spaces with 170mm clearance
- One space with 220mm clearance
Four Equipment Shelves
The Collection 4 supports four separate Hi-Fi components within a relatively compact 602mm-wide footprint.
A typical system might include:
- Turntable
- Integrated amplifier
- CD player or transport
- Network music streamer
Alternative arrangements can accommodate a preamplifier, power amplifier, DAC, phono stage, separate power supply or headphone amplifier.
Two 170mm Equipment Spaces
Two Shelf 170 modules each provide 170mm of usable vertical clearance.
These spaces suit many conventional source components, including:
- CD players and transports
- Network music players
- DACs
- Preamplifiers
- Phono stages
- Separate power supplies
- Compact integrated amplifiers
Always leave an appropriate air gap around warm-running equipment rather than selecting a shelf that only just accommodates the component’s casework.
One 220mm Equipment Space
The Shelf 220 module provides 220mm of usable vertical clearance.
This larger space is particularly useful for:
- Substantial integrated amplifiers
- Power amplifiers
- Class AB amplifiers requiring additional cooling
- Tall CD players or music servers
- Components with large rear connectors
The 220mm space provides more installation room, but the connected equipment manufacturer’s ventilation instructions must still be followed.
Allow More Than the Component Height
A component measuring close to 170mm should not be enclosed within a 170mm space.
Leave room for ventilation, cable access and safe removal. Use the 220mm section or open upper shelf where greater clearance is required.
40kg Capacity Per Shelf
Each of the four shelves can support equipment weighing up to 40kg.
This makes the Collection 4 suitable for many substantial amplifiers, high-mass turntables and other heavy Hi-Fi components.
The limit applies individually to each shelf. Equipment must sit securely within the usable supporting area, with its feet fully supported.
Tempered Black Glass Shelves
The Black Glass and High Gloss Black version uses 10mm tempered-glass shelves.
Tempered glass provides a rigid supporting surface with a contemporary reflective appearance and can be cleaned easily with an appropriate soft cloth.
The complete glass rack measures 697mm high, 602mm wide and 402mm deep and weighs approximately 35kg before equipment or optional mass filling is added.
Ash-Veneered Plywood Shelves
The two wood-finished versions use 13mm plywood shelves with real ash veneer.
Plywood consists of bonded layers with alternating grain directions, creating a strong and rigid structure with useful damping properties.
The plywood racks measure 708mm high, 602mm wide and 402mm deep.
Three Coordinated Finishes
The Collection 4 is available in:
- Black Glass shelves with High Gloss Black supports
- Black Ash Plywood shelves with Natural Walnut supports
- Natural Ash Plywood shelves with Satin White supports
The support finish is part of each coordinated combination and should be identified accurately when selecting the rack.
Integrated Silicone Isolation
Silicone isolation pads are incorporated between the shelves and supports and at the base of the structure.
Blok specifies these pads to help absorb vibration and reduce resonance transmission through the assembled rack.
The isolation points and shelf fixings are concealed after assembly, preserving the clean modernist appearance.
Optional Mass Filling
The hollow support sections can be filled with a suitable dry and acoustically inert material to increase their mass and provide additional resonance control.
Internal capacity per support is approximately:
- 0.7 litres for each Base Shelf support
- 2.2 litres for each Shelf 170 support
- 3 litres for each Shelf 220 support
Mass filling is optional. The rack can be assembled and used without adding any material.
Use a Suitable Dry Filling
Use a clean, dry and stable material intended for audio furniture or speaker stands.
Do not use liquids, wet sand, expanding foam or building materials that may retain moisture, damage the supports or prevent future disassembly.
Adjustable Floor Feet
Four independently adjustable feet allow the completed rack to be levelled after it has been placed in its final position.
The supplied height-adjustment tool fits around each foot mechanism so its height can be changed without repeatedly lifting the rack.
Accurate levelling is particularly important for turntables and other products containing sensitive moving mechanisms.
Spikes for Carpet
The base foot assemblies incorporate spikes for use on suitable carpeted floors.
The published spike height is approximately 22mm.
Each spike should pass through the carpet and make firm contact with the supporting floor beneath. Take care where flooring, underfloor heating, pipes or cables could be damaged.
Rubber Feet for Hard Floors
Integrated rubber feet provide an alternative for timber, laminate, tile and other suitable hard flooring.
The published hard-floor foot height is approximately 14mm.
Clean the floor and rubber contact surfaces before installation to prevent trapped grit from marking a delicate finish.
Usable Shelf Area
All finish options provide approximately 480mm of usable shelf width.
Usable depth to the beginning of the rear cable cut-out is:
- Approximately 387mm with Black Glass shelves
- Approximately 379mm with plywood shelves
A component’s casework may extend towards the cable cut-out, but its supporting feet must remain safely positioned on the shelf.
Rear Cable Management
Each shelf has a smoothly shaped rear cut-out that provides additional clearance for mains leads, interconnects and larger plugs.
This helps the rack sit closer to a wall while reducing sharp cable bends and strain on the equipment’s sockets.
Allow enough slack for equipment to be installed and removed safely, and avoid trapping cables between the rack and wall.
Equipment Placement
Heavier equipment should normally be placed on a lower shelf to maintain a low centre of gravity.
A practical arrangement could place a power amplifier or substantial integrated amplifier in the 220mm lower space, with source components in the 170mm sections and a turntable on the open top shelf.
The final arrangement should also consider:
- Ventilation
- Interconnect length
- Mains-cable routing
- Control access
- Turntable lid clearance
- Possible electrical or mechanical interaction between components
Using a Turntable
The open upper shelf is the natural position for a turntable.
Check that the complete footprint fits safely within the usable area and that there is sufficient space behind and above the deck to raise its lid.
Level the rack carefully after assembly and check it again once all equipment has been installed.
A wall-mounted turntable shelf may remain preferable in rooms with highly flexible suspended floors or severe footfall vibration.
Using an Amplifier
The larger 220mm section is designed to accommodate taller equipment and products requiring greater cooling space.
It is often the most suitable position for an integrated amplifier or power amplifier, although the open upper shelf can provide even less restricted airflow where required.
Do not obstruct ventilation grilles or place another product directly against the amplifier’s upper surface.
Modular Expansion
Additional Stax 2G modules can be added if the system grows.
Available modules include:
- Shelf 120 with 120mm usable clearance
- Shelf 170 with 170mm usable clearance
- Shelf 220 with 220mm usable clearance
- LP Shelf with approximately 350mm usable clearance
The modular construction allows the rack to be adapted for additional source equipment, power supplies or vinyl-record storage.
Maximum Recommended Height
Blok recommends that a completed Stax 2G rack should not exceed 1100mm in overall height.
The standard Collection 4 remains below this limit in all three finishes, but further expansion must be planned carefully.
Keep heavy components towards the lower levels and avoid placing the rack where children, pets or passing traffic could knock it.
Concealed Fixings
The Stax 2G modules connect through concealed M10 fixings tightened with Blok’s purpose-designed assembly tool.
Once assembled, the bolts and isolation details are hidden from normal view.
Finishing caps cover the unused upper connections, maintaining a neat appearance on the top shelf.
Self-Assembly
The Collection 4 is supplied flat-packed for self-assembly.
Build it on a clean and protected surface, following the supplied Quick Start Guide and checking that every fixing is correctly aligned before tightening.
Move the empty assembled rack into its final position, select the correct floor interface and complete the levelling process before installing equipment.
Move the Rack Empty
Remove all equipment and disconnect every cable before relocating the rack.
Do not drag a loaded rack across the floor or attempt to lift the complete system by one shelf.
Dimensions by Finish
The complete Collection 4 measures:
- Black Glass: 697mm high × 602mm wide × 402mm deep
- Plywood finishes: 708mm high × 602mm wide × 402mm deep
The difference results from the 10mm glass and 13mm plywood shelf thicknesses.
Weight by Finish
The complete rack weighs approximately:
- Black Glass with High Gloss Black: 35kg
- Black Ash Plywood with Natural Walnut: 20.3kg
- Natural Ash Plywood with Satin White: 20.9kg
These figures exclude equipment and any optional mass-filling material.
Care and Cleaning
Remove sensitive equipment before carrying out extensive cleaning or adjustment.
Use a soft, dry or slightly damp microfibre cloth on the supports and plywood shelves.
Apply glass cleaner to the cloth rather than spraying it directly towards equipment, shelf joints or flooring.
Avoid abrasive pads, solvent-based cleaners and excessive moisture.
