The Atacama SLX200 is a specialist low-profile speaker stand for installations where a conventional 500–700mm support would position the loudspeaker too high.
Its 235mm overall height can suit large standmount speakers, vertically substantial monitor cabinets and other situations where only a modest amount of elevation is required. The broad 225mm-square top plate and 305mm-square base also provide a more substantial platform than many compact domestic stands.
Four fillable steel columns allow the weight and resonance behaviour of the stands to be adjusted using Atacama Atabites. Adjustable floor spikes and High Load Trapezoidal isolation gel pads are included, giving the SLX200 a strong set of standard fittings.
The low height will not suit most conventional compact bookshelf speakers, as their tweeters may remain well below seated ear level. Measure the complete speaker and stand combination carefully before choosing this model.
Atacama SLX200 Low-Profile Speaker Stands
The Atacama SLX200 is supplied as a pair of professional four-column steel speaker stands with an overall height of 235mm, including the adjustable floor spikes and supplied HLT isolation pads.
It is the shortest model in Atacama's SLX range and is intended for speakers or installations that require a broad, rigid support without the elevation of a conventional speaker stand.
Each stand combines a laser-cut steel base, four mass-loadable columns and a large steel top plate capable of supporting a compatible loudspeaker weighing up to 15kg.
Why Choose a Low Speaker Stand?
The correct speaker-stand height depends on the loudspeaker cabinet, the position of its tweeter or acoustic centre and the height of the intended listening position.
Larger standmount speakers can place their high-frequency driver considerably higher within the cabinet than a compact bookshelf model. Using a conventional-height stand may therefore position the tweeter above the listener.
A low-profile stand can also help raise a speaker above a solid floor, low platform or piece of furniture while retaining a lower overall installation height.
235mm Is Much Lower Than a Conventional Stand
Most compact standmount speakers require considerably more elevation than the SLX200 provides.
Add the height of the speaker's tweeter above the cabinet base to the 235mm stand height and compare the result with the seated listening position.
Complete Tweeter-Height Calculation
To estimate the final listening height, measure from the bottom of the speaker cabinet to the centre of its tweeter.
Add this figure to the SLX200's 235mm overall height. The resulting measurement indicates approximately how high the tweeter will sit above the floor.
The ideal result varies between speakers. Some are designed to be heard with the tweeter at ear height, while others allow the listener to sit slightly above or below the main axis.
The loudspeaker manufacturer's positioning guidance should take priority where a specific stand height or listening axis is recommended.
Professional Four-Column Construction
Each SLX200 uses four vertical steel support columns between its top and base plates.
The four-column arrangement distributes the loudspeaker weight across a broad footprint and helps provide the rigidity required for heavier standmount speakers.
Every column can be mass loaded, allowing the weight and resonance characteristics of the complete stand to be adjusted.
Large 225mm-Square Top Plates
The standard steel top plate measures 225mm wide by 225mm deep.
This provides a larger supporting surface than the compact top plates used on many slim domestic speaker stands.
A speaker cabinet may extend beyond the top plate where its weight remains securely centred, but its overall width and depth should not exceed the 305 x 305mm dimensions of the stand's base.
Check More Than the Top-Plate Size
A speaker may fit within the stated dimensions but still be unsuitable because of its centre of gravity, cabinet shape or weight distribution.
The complete combination should remain stable when viewed and gently tested from every direction.
Optional Larger Top Plates
Atacama offers an optional SLX top-plate pack measuring approximately 280mm wide by 300mm deep.
This can provide a broader supporting surface for compatible speakers with larger cabinet dimensions.
The loudspeaker must still remain within the stand's 15kg capacity and the manufacturer's recommended footprint limits.
305mm-Square Steel Base Plates
Each stand uses a laser-cut carbon-steel base measuring 305mm wide by 305mm deep.
The generous footprint provides a stable foundation and helps distribute the weight of the speaker, stand and any added filler.
Each base is approximately 5mm thick and accepts four adjustable floor spikes.
15kg Speaker Capacity per Stand
Atacama specifies a maximum loudspeaker weight of 15kg on each SLX200 stand.

High Load Trapezoidal Isolation Gel Pads
High Load Trapezoidal isolation gel pads are included for placement between each speaker cabinet and top plate.

Check That the Speaker Cannot Slide

Optional M6 top spikes can be fitted in place of the supplied isolation gel pads.

Atacama recommends approximately one 7kg tub of Atabites to be shared evenly between the pair of SLX200 stands.
One Tub Shared Between the Pair
The manufacturer's one-tub recommendation is an approximate starting quantity rather than an instruction to fill every column completely.
Divide the filler equally between both stands and across all eight vertical columns.
Using suitable scales is more reliable than judging the quantity only by the visible height of the material inside each column.
Keep Every Column Equally Loaded
Unequal quantities can alter the weight distribution and resonance behaviour of the stands.
Record the amount placed in each column and keep the left and right stands as closely matched as possible.
How Full Should the Stands Be?
Atacama suggests experimenting with the amount of filler to find the best balance for the loudspeakers, room and complete Hi-Fi system.
Approximately half to two-thirds full provides a useful general working range across the SLX series.
Adding mass may help improve stability, bass control, focus and clarity. Overfilling can make some systems sound overly damped, dull or lacking in high-frequency openness.

Adjustable Floor Spikes
Four adjustable 8mm floor spikes are supplied with each stand.
The spikes allow the SLX200 to be levelled on slightly uneven flooring and help establish firm contact with a suitable carpeted surface.
Stainless-steel detailed top caps assist with adjustment, and the fittings should be locked securely once each stand is level and stable.
Protect Hard and Delicate Floors
The steel spikes can damage wood, laminate, tile, vinyl and other vulnerable floor coverings.
Atacama recommends two sets of four HD-S spike shoes when the pair is installed on a delicate hard floor.
Speaker Positioning
A dedicated stand allows the speakers to be positioned independently from ordinary furniture.
Begin with the left and right speakers placed symmetrically, with an equal distance between each speaker and the main listening position.
Experiment with their distance from the rear and side walls, as well as the amount of toe-in towards the listener.
Because the SLX200 is unusually low, the vertical listening angle should also be checked carefully.
Placement on a Raised Platform
The SLX200 may be suitable where the stands themselves will sit on a substantial raised platform, stage, shelf or purpose-built surface.
Any supporting structure must be level, stable and capable of carrying the combined weight of the speakers, stands and mass-loading material.
The floor spikes should not be placed directly onto furniture or delicate surfaces without suitable protective interfaces.

Assembly and Setup
