The Dynaudio Confidence 60 is the flagship passive loudspeaker in Dynaudio’s home-audio range, combining the company’s most advanced soft-dome tweeter, twin dedicated midrange drivers, two substantial 23cm woofers and the complete DDC 2 directivity-control platform.

Each speaker uses a symmetrical five-driver arrangement, with one 28mm Esotar3 tweeter positioned between two 15cm MSP Horizon midrange drivers and two 23cm NeoTec MSP woofers. The driver positions, crossover, DDC Lens and sculpted Compex baffle are all designed to operate as one integrated acoustic system.

Dynaudio Directivity Control shapes the speaker’s vertical radiation to reduce unwanted midrange and treble energy directed towards the floor and ceiling. This can lessen the effect of early vertical reflections while preserving a comparatively wide horizontal listening area.

The technology does not remove the influence of the room. The Confidence 60’s exceptional low-frequency reach, large cabinet and resolving ability mean that wall distance, speaker spacing, toe-in, listening height and the position of the listening seat remain critically important.

The Esotar3 tweeter incorporates Dynaudio’s Hexis resonance-control inner dome, an enlarged rear chamber, carefully optimised airflow and a powerful neodymium motor. It is mounted within the precision-formed aluminium DDC Lens rather than operating as an isolated tweeter on a conventional flat baffle.

Two dedicated 15cm midrange drivers use Dynaudio’s Horizon Surround, which follows the profile of the MSP cone towards its outer edge. This increases the effective radiating area and allows each diaphragm to integrate almost flush with the surrounding Compex baffle.

The twin 23cm NeoTec MSP woofers are the largest bass drivers used in the current passive Confidence range. Their one-piece MSP diaphragms, copper voice coils, three-layer glass-fibre formers, pure-neodymium motors and machined ventilation systems are optimised specifically for deep, controlled bass reproduction.

Dynaudio specifies a low-frequency cutoff of 29Hz within a +/-3dB tolerance. This gives the Confidence 60 genuine full-range ability for most music systems, with the scale and headroom required to reproduce orchestral, electronic and live recordings convincingly in a suitably large room.

The hybrid bass-reflex port fires down through the lower plinth towards a shaped airflow diffuser above the solid base. This gives the port a consistent immediate boundary and clearance regardless of whether the speaker is installed on carpet or a hard floor.

The wider room will still determine how evenly that deep bass is heard. A speaker reaching below 30Hz can expose room modes that were less obvious with a smaller loudspeaker, so the final position should be established through careful listening and, where useful, room measurement.

The Confidence 60 has a moderate sensitivity of 87dB and a 4-ohm nominal impedance. Its specified minimum of 3.7 ohms at 71Hz is not as low as the minimum figures quoted for the Confidence 30 or Confidence 50, but its large drivers, 600W power handling and considerable dynamic capability still justify extremely capable amplification.

A powerful integrated amplifier may provide excellent results, but the Confidence 60 is sufficiently revealing to justify reference-level separate pre-amplification and power amplification. Current delivery, control, noise performance and sound quality matter more than comparing headline wattage figures alone.

The quoted 600W IEC long-term power handling is not a recommendation that every system should use a 600W amplifier. It does not guarantee protection against clipping, excessive low-frequency energy or sustained misuse. A smaller amplifier driven beyond its limits can be more dangerous than a powerful amplifier operated sensibly.

The Confidence 60 also requires serious practical consideration. Each speaker weighs 66.2kg and measures approximately 1.68 metres tall, 432mm wide and 517mm deep once its feet and grille are included. Delivery, unpacking, floor protection, positioning and levelling should be planned before the pair arrives.

Compared with the Confidence 50, the Confidence 60 retains the same twin-midrange DDC layout but replaces the two 18cm woofers with substantially larger 23cm drivers. Published bass extension increases from 35Hz to 29Hz, power handling rises from 400W to 600W and cabinet weight increases from 49.6kg to 66.2kg per speaker.

The Confidence 50 may be the more appropriate choice for many medium-sized rooms, particularly where its smaller footprint and still-substantial bass capability are a better match. The Confidence 60 is intended for customers whose room, amplification and complete source system can make meaningful use of its greater low-frequency extension, scale and headroom.

Properly partnered and professionally installed, the Confidence 60 can deliver enormous scale without sacrificing image focus, vocal intelligibility or low-level information. It is not simply a larger or louder Confidence model, but Dynaudio’s most ambitious passive expression of controlled directivity, soft-dome treble and MSP driver engineering.

The Dynaudio Confidence 60 is a passive three-way floorstanding loudspeaker designed and engineered at Dynaudio Labs in Skanderborg, Denmark.

The twin-driver arrangement provides considerably greater cone area, low-frequency displacement and headroom than the 18cm woofers fitted to the Confidence 30 and Confidence 50.

Dedicated Bass Diaphragms

The woofer cones use Dynaudio’s one-piece MSP construction but are optimised specifically for bass reproduction.

The diaphragms must remain controlled while moving enough air to reproduce frequencies down to the speaker’s quoted 29Hz lower cutoff.

Because the separate midrange drivers handle vocals and the upper bass, the woofer moving systems can be tuned more completely for extension, output and control.

Copper Woofer Voice Coils

The Confidence 60 woofers use copper voice-coil wire.

Dynaudio selected copper to provide the moving mass and force factor required by this specific 23cm driver, motor and cabinet arrangement.

Voice-coil material is therefore chosen according to the intended driver behaviour rather than one material being universally superior.

Three-Layer Glass-Fibre Voice-Coil Formers

The 23cm woofer voice coils use three-layer glass-fibre formers.

The former supports the coil as it moves through the magnetic gap and must remain stable as excursion and temperature increase.

The layered glass-fibre structure is designed to provide the stiffness required by the large woofer without adding unnecessary mass or electrical losses.

Pure-Neodymium Woofer Motors

Each woofer uses a powerful pure-neodymium magnet system.

The motor geometry controls the magnetic field around the voice coil and helps maintain consistent force as the diaphragm moves forwards and backwards.

The compact neodymium magnets also provide more space for ventilation around the rear of the cone and voice-coil assembly.

Machined Airflow and Ventilation

Airflow channels are machined directly into the woofer motor structures.

The two midrange drivers hand over to the Esotar3 tweeter at 2580Hz.

Compex Composite Front Baffle

All five drivers are mounted into a sculpted Compex composite front baffle.

This allows the Confidence 60 to reproduce exceptionally deep musical bass without automatically requiring a separate subwoofer.

This is a moderate sensitivity figure rather than an especially efficient design.

4-Ohm Rated Impedance

Dynaudio specifies a rated impedance of 4 ohms.

The Confidence 60 reaches a specified minimum impedance of 3.7 ohms at 71Hz.

This is a higher minimum than the figures quoted for the Confidence 30 and Confidence 50, but it still occurs within the bass region where musical signals and large woofer movements can demand substantial power.

The amplifier must therefore combine clean voltage output with suitable current delivery, power-supply capacity and thermal stability.

Serious Amplification Required

The Confidence 60’s impedance is not exceptionally hostile, but its moderate sensitivity, large woofers and dynamic capability make amplifier quality extremely important.

Check power into 4 ohms, current delivery, power-supply capacity and suitability for sustained high-level use.

A demonstration with the intended amplifier and listening levels is strongly recommended.

600W IEC Long-Term Power Handling

Dynaudio specifies IEC long-term power handling of 600W.

This figure provides guidance about the speaker’s ability to cope with sustained test signals under the relevant measurement standard.

It does not mean:

  • A 600W amplifier is compulsory
  • Every amplifier below 600W is suitable
  • The speaker cannot be damaged by a 600W amplifier
  • The volume can be increased without regard for distortion

Amplifier quality, current delivery, room size, listening distance and required headroom are more useful than matching the speaker and amplifier by one wattage figure.

Reduce the Volume if the Sound Becomes Distorted

Audible hardness, compression, crackling or obvious distortion can indicate that the amplifier or loudspeakers are being overloaded.

Reduce the volume immediately rather than continuing at the same level.

A lower-powered amplifier driven into clipping can damage a tweeter even when its published wattage appears safe.

The Confidence 60 deserves amplification capable of controlling two large woofers while preserving the resolution of the Esotar3 tweeter and twin midrange drivers.

Single-Wire Loudspeaker Connections

The Confidence 60 uses one pair of binding posts per speaker.

It is designed for conventional single wiring rather than passive bi-wiring or bi-amping.

This allows the cable budget to concentrate on one high-quality connection between each amplifier channel and speaker.

Compatible Cable Terminations

The terminals can accommodate compatible:

The amplifier should be switched off while speaker cables are connected or removed.

Black Removable Grilles

Black removable grilles are supplied.

They help protect the Esotar3 dome, two midrange cones and twin 23cm woofers from accidental contact, dust and curious fingers.

Dynaudio designs its grilles to have a limited influence on performance, although the company suggests that removing them may provide a marginal improvement for serious listening.

Never press on any of the driver diaphragms while removing or replacing the grilles.

Integrated Floor Support

The Confidence 60’s broad lower base provides stability and forms part of the hybrid bass-port system.

The complete width increases from 271mm at the cabinet to 432mm once the feet and grille are included.

Deep Bass and Room Modes
