Audio T Verdict
Sitting directly below the Rega Naia, the Planar 10 brings much of Rega's reference turntable engineering into a more attainable package. Its ultra-light skeletal plinth, ceramic platter, RB3000 tonearm and matched external power supply are all designed to retrieve more information from the record groove while reducing unwanted vibration and energy storage.
The Planar 10 is available in Black or White and can be ordered without a cartridge, with the Rega Apheta 3 moving coil cartridge or with the reference Aphelion 2 moving coil cartridge.
The cartridge-free version is ideal for a carefully planned custom installation, while the factory-fitted cartridge packages remove much of the uncertainty from alignment and setup. Both cartridge-equipped versions require a compatible moving coil phono stage.
Rega Planar 10 Reference Turntable
Inspired by Rega's Naiad test-bed turntable, the Planar 10 is designed around the company's core principles of low mass, high rigidity and precision engineering.
Rather than relying on a large and heavy plinth to absorb vibration, Rega reduces mass wherever possible and adds rigidity only in the areas where it is structurally important. This approach helps prevent unwanted energy from being stored within the turntable and interfering with the delicate signal retrieved by the cartridge.
The Planar 10 is not simply a development of the earlier RP10. Its plinth, tonearm, platter, central bearing, motor mounting and external power supply were all substantially re-engineered.
Ultra-Lightweight Skeletal Plinth
The skeletal plinth is constructed from Tancast 8 polyurethane foam, a lightweight material originally developed for the aerospace industry.
The foam core is enclosed between two thin layers of high-pressure laminate. This creates a structure that is extremely light but highly rigid, reducing the potential for unwanted resonance and energy storage.
Compared with the earlier RP10, the Planar 10 skeletal plinth is approximately 30 per cent lighter while offering increased rigidity.
Double Brace Technology
Rega's Double Brace Technology creates a rigid connection between the tonearm mounting point and the central hub bearing.
The Planar 10 uses a ceramic upper brace and phenolic resin lower brace. These materials reinforce the areas where rigidity is most important without adding unnecessary mass across the rest of the plinth.
This stressed-beam construction helps maintain accurate alignment between the tonearm and platter while reducing unwanted movement and resonance.
RB3000 Reference Tonearm
The hand-assembled RB3000 is Rega's reference tonearm for the Planar 10. It is manufactured with extremely tight tolerances and has been designed with the minimum number of mechanical joints.
Its preloaded bearing assembly is adjusted to less than one thousandth of a millimetre, providing near-frictionless movement with no unwanted bearing play.
- Precision preloaded bearing assembly
- Near-frictionless horizontal and vertical movement
- Minimal mechanical joints
- No adhesive used within the main tonearm construction
- Hand-polished, low-mass aluminium arm tube
- Precision-engineered vertical bearing housing
- Rega three-point cartridge mounting system
The aim is to allow the cartridge stylus to follow extremely small variations within the record groove without movement or friction from the tonearm obscuring the signal.
Ceramic Flywheel Platter
The Planar 10 uses a custom ceramic oxide platter manufactured from compressed and fired ceramic powder.
Each platter is diamond-cut to achieve exceptional flatness and dimensional accuracy. Its profile places more mass towards the outer edge, increasing the flywheel effect and helping the platter maintain consistent rotational speed.
The platter also uses an improved connection to the aluminium sub-platter, providing a stable and accurate platform for the record.
Precision Hub Bearing Assembly
A single-piece machined aluminium sub-platter and hardened tool-steel spindle run inside a custom brass bearing housing.
The complete assembly is carefully mounted within the skeletal plinth to reduce unwanted energy transfer and prevent vibration from being stored around the central bearing.
Its low-mass construction also reduces unnecessary loading on the plinth while supporting smooth and consistent platter rotation.
24V Low-Noise Motor
The Planar 10 uses a 24V synchronous low-vibration motor mounted from beneath the skeletal plinth.
This mounting method was developed from Rega's work on the Naiad. It holds the drive pulley securely while reducing stress on the motor body and isolating unwanted motor vibration.
Each motor is individually hand-tuned and matched to its own external P10 power supply before the turntable leaves the factory.
P10 External Power Supply
The dedicated P10 PSU provides electronic control of the Planar 10's motor and is included with every cartridge and finish option.
A high-stability crystal generator and digital signal processing are used to create the waveform required to drive the motor accurately. Factory adjustments are then made to match the power supply to the individual motor.
- Electronic selection between 33? and 45 rpm
- Digital signal processing motor control
- High-stability crystal reference generator
- User-adjustable fine speed control
- Advanced motor vibration reduction
- Individually matched turntable motor and power supply
Reference EBLT Drive Belts
The Planar 10 uses Rega Reference EBLT drive belts manufactured from a specially developed rubber compound.
The belts are produced using highly accurate tooling to achieve greater consistency in shape, elasticity and dimensions. This helps maintain a stable connection between the motor pulley and sub-platter.
Black or White Finish
Black Finish
The Black Planar 10 provides a discreet finish that complements Rega electronics and most traditional Hi-Fi systems.
It is available without a cartridge, with the Apheta 3 or with the Aphelion 2.
White Finish
The White Planar 10 offers a more distinctive alternative and is supplied with a clear removable dustcover and contrasting black turntable mat.

Choose Your Cartridge
Planar 10 Without Cartridge
This option includes the Planar 10, RB3000 tonearm, ceramic platter, removable dustcover and matched P10 external power supply, but no cartridge.
It is suitable for customers who already own a compatible cartridge or who want to create a carefully matched custom vinyl system.
Cartridge weight, dimensions, output and compatibility with the RB3000 should be checked before fitting. Speak to Audio T for advice on cartridge choice, professional fitting and alignment.
Planar 10 with Apheta 3
The
Rega Apheta 3
is a low-output moving coil cartridge with an aluminium cantilever and fine-line nude diamond stylus.
It provides a natural partner for the Planar 10 and offers a substantial step into reference-level moving coil performance without moving to the flagship Aphelion 2.
When this option is selected, the cartridge is factory-fitted and aligned to the RB3000 tonearm. A compatible moving coil phono stage is required.
Planar 10 with Aphelion 2
The
Rega Aphelion 2
is Rega's reference moving coil cartridge and uses a boron rod cantilever, fine-line nude diamond stylus and hand-wound micro coil assembly.
This is the highest-performance factory-fitted cartridge option available for the Planar 10.
A suitably capable moving coil phono stage and system are required to hear the full benefit of this combination.
Both the Apheta 3 and Aphelion 2 are low-output moving coil cartridges. They cannot be connected directly to a standard moving magnet phono input.
The
Rega Aura Reference MC phono stage
is Rega's reference phono stage and can be adjusted to suit either cartridge.
