Pure Class A Amplification
The A21’s output stage operates continuously in pure Class A.
Unlike amplifier designs in which the output devices switch between different operating states, the A21 keeps its output stage active throughout the complete audio waveform.
This approach is central to the amplifier’s smooth, coherent and naturally expressive character, although it also means that the amplifier generates more heat than a conventional Class AB design.
Single-Ended Voltage-Rail Circuit
Sugden uses its established single-ended voltage-rail circuit within the A21 Signature.

The A21L does not include a phono input as standard, although Sugden states that a compatible phono board can be fitted at a later date.
A21 Integrated Phono Version
The phono-equipped A21 provides four line-level inputs together with an internal phono input.
The phono board can be configured for either a moving-magnet or moving-coil cartridge, allowing a compatible turntable to be connected directly to the amplifier.
Because the cartridge type is selected internally, the required MM or MC configuration should be confirmed when ordering.

Moving-Magnet Cartridge Support
When configured for moving-magnet operation, the internal phono stage offers a published input sensitivity of 3mV and a loading impedance of 47k ohms.
This makes it suitable for many conventional moving-magnet cartridges and compatible high-output moving-coil designs.
Moving-Coil Cartridge Support
The phono board can alternatively be configured for a moving-coil cartridge.
Sugden publishes an MC input sensitivity of 0.2mV and loading of 470 ohms.
Cartridge output and recommended loading vary, so compatibility should be checked before connecting a low-output moving-coil cartridge.
Analogue Source Connections
The A21 Signature is an analogue amplifier and does not require an app, network connection or software setup.
Compatible sources can include:

Stereo Loudspeaker Connections
One pair of stereo multi-way binding posts is provided for connecting passive loudspeakers.
The terminals accommodate compatible terminated or unterminated speaker cables. Correct positive and negative polarity should be maintained at both the amplifier and loudspeaker ends.
The A21 does not provide separate Speaker A and Speaker B outputs.
