Power for a Naim HeadLine
The HeadLine is an externally powered headphone amplifier. Its power source is separate from the signal connection, allowing Naim owners to select a compatible supply appropriate to the system.
When a FlatCap, HiCap or SuperCap is used, the SLIC completes the DC connection between that supply and the HeadLine. The HeadLine's own signal lead or input connection still needs to be connected to a suitable fixed-level output from the source, pre-amplifier or integrated amplifier.
The SLIC Does Not Carry Music
The SLIC carries DC power only. It does not transport the left and right audio channels, control volume or replace the HeadLine's separate source connection.

The socket label and connector orientation should be checked before installation. Do not choose a socket simply because the plug appears to fit, as Naim DIN sockets can have different electrical assignments.

Five-Pin DIN to Two-Pin Locking Connector
The power-supply end uses a five-pin 240-degree DIN plug. The HeadLine end uses a female two-pin connector with a locking ring, matching the amplifier's dedicated power inlet.
Align the DIN plug with the socket key and insert it straight without twisting. At the HeadLine end, align the two-pin connector before engagement and secure the locking ring by hand without overtightening it.
Never force either connector. Stop and recheck the socket, pin pattern and orientation if the plug does not seat easily.
A Dedicated Power Lead, Not a SNAIC
Naim SNAIC cables use different connector arrangements and can carry audio as well as power in compatible systems. The SLIC has a much narrower role: it carries DC power from a specified Naim supply output to a HeadLine.
A standard five-pin DIN audio interconnect is also unsuitable because it does not terminate in the HeadLine's two-pin power connector. The product name should therefore not be interpreted as meaning that any conventional interconnect can perform the same function.
When Using a NAPSC
The NAPSC is already fitted with a captive lead ending in the custom two-pin connector used by the HeadLine. It connects directly to the HeadLine power input, so adding a SLIC is neither necessary nor appropriate.
This SLIC should be selected only when the intended supply is a compatible FlatCap, HiCap or SuperCap with the required five-pin output socket.
SuperCap Ground-Loop Guidance
Naim advises that a SuperCap used to power a HeadLine should not simultaneously power another product. This avoids a potential ground-loop arrangement within the system.
Confirm the full system layout before sharing or reallocating power-supply connections. If the SuperCap is already in use elsewhere, ask Audio T to assess the appropriate alternative.
Legacy System Compatibility
Naim now lists the HeadLine as no longer available, but the SLIC remains relevant to existing HeadLine systems, pre-owned equipment and owners changing from a NAPSC to a compatible larger supply.
Age alone does not guarantee compatibility. Check the HeadLine power inlet, power-supply model, output socket and service or modification history. A product that has been reterminated or internally altered should be inspected before connection.
Installation and Power Sequence
Place the equipment in its final position before connecting the cable. Switch off the power supply and associated system components, with any power amplifier off and pre-amplifier volume turned down.
Attach the SLIC to the exact power-supply socket specified for the model, then connect the locking two-pin plug to the HeadLine. Complete the separate audio connection and check every cable before restoring power.
Route the cable without tight bends, crushing or tension at either connector. Keep the locking connector accessible and avoid placing the cable beneath equipment feet or against hot casework.
When changing cables or rearranging the system, switch off the connected power supply first and allow the equipment to settle before disconnecting the SLIC.
System Planning
One SLIC completes the power connection for one compatible HeadLine. It does not include the external power supply, headphone amplifier, source adaptor or any audio interconnect required by the system.
The published 2m length normally gives useful freedom when placing a HeadLine near the listening position while keeping the power supply on a suitable equipment support. Confirm the actual route before ordering and leave enough slack to avoid loading either connector.
