Linn LP12 Base Options – Solid Base or Trampolin Aluminium Base

Linn LP12 Base Options – Solid Base or Trampolin Aluminium Base

Audio T Verdict

This product page allows you to choose between Linn's two current aluminium baseboard options for the Sondek LP12: Solid Base and Trampolin.

Solid Base provides a fixed and rigid underside with conventional feet, making it the natural choice when the turntable is already placed on a stable, well-isolated rack or wall shelf.

Trampolin adds suspended feet and acoustic damping to provide further isolation from vibration travelling through the supporting furniture. The correct choice depends on the LP12 specification, the supporting surface and the construction of the room.

Linn LP12 Base Options

The baseboard closes the underside of the Linn Sondek LP12, attaches directly to its wooden plinth and provides the contact points between the turntable and its supporting shelf or furniture.

Although it sits beneath the deck and is largely hidden during everyday use, the base influences how vibration passes between the LP12, its support and the surrounding room.

This page includes two selectable options:

  • Linn Solid Base: aluminium baseboard with fixed feet
  • Linn Trampolin: aluminium baseboard with suspended, acoustically damped feet

Please Select the Required Base

The price and product supplied depend on the option selected on this page.

Solid Base and Trampolin are alternative LP12 baseboards. Selecting one option does not supply both products.

Contact Audio T before ordering when upgrading an existing LP12 or when the turntable contains an internal Urika or Urika II phono stage.

Which LP12 Base Should You Choose?

Choose Solid Base When

  • The LP12 support already provides effective isolation
  • The turntable is placed on a suitable rigid wall shelf
  • You prefer fixed rather than suspended feet
  • You are building a standard Majik LP12 configuration
  • You are replacing an older fibreboard or non-aluminium base

Choose Trampolin When

  • Additional isolation from supporting furniture is required
  • The LP12 is placed on standard equipment furniture
  • You want suspended and acoustically damped feet
  • You are building towards a Selekt LP12 specification
  • The turntable and support have been assessed by a Linn specialist

Trampolin is not automatically the correct choice for every room. The behaviour of the floor, furniture and shelf should be considered together with the turntable.

A well-installed Solid Base on a suitable isolated wall shelf may provide a better solution than placing Trampolin on furniture that moves significantly with the floor.

Linn Solid Base

The Linn Solid Base is an aluminium baseboard fitted with fixed feet.

It provides a rigid underside for the LP12 and is supplied as standard with the current Linn Majik LP12 MM and Linn Majik LP12 MC .

Solid Base is designed for installations where the rack, cabinet or wall shelf already provides an appropriately stable and isolated support.

The fixed feet establish a direct mechanical relationship between the LP12 baseboard and the supporting surface without adding a second suspended-foot system beneath the deck.

Fixed and Rigid Support

The Sondek LP12 already contains a suspended sub-chassis inside its wooden plinth.

Solid Base allows this internal suspension to operate above a stable set of fixed feet, provided that the supporting furniture does not move excessively or transmit significant vibration.

This arrangement can work particularly well on a rigid, lightweight wall shelf or another turntable support that has been selected specifically for the LP12.

The baseboard should sit evenly on all its feet without rocking or being forced against an uneven surface.

The Supporting Shelf Still Matters

Solid Base does not provide suspended isolation through its feet.

The rack, shelf or cabinet must therefore provide the stable platform required by the LP12.

A lightweight wall shelf securely attached to a solid wall can be particularly useful where a suspended wooden floor moves as people walk across the room.

Standard on Majik LP12

Solid Base forms part of Linn's current Majik LP12 specification.

The complete Majik deck also includes the Karousel main bearing, Majik aluminium sub-chassis, laminated armboard, Krane tonearm and internal Majik motor power supply.

Customers can choose between the Adikt moving magnet cartridge and Koil moving coil cartridge when purchasing the complete turntable.

Solid Base provides the appropriate entry point into Linn's modular baseboard range while retaining a clear future upgrade route to Trampolin.

Upgrading an Older LP12 with Solid Base

Solid Base can be retrofitted to existing LP12 turntables, including decks fitted with an older non-aluminium or fibreboard base.

Replacing an older base gives the LP12 a current rigid aluminium underside and fixed-foot arrangement.

Compatibility should be checked before ordering, particularly where the underside of the turntable contains non-standard wiring, an internal power supply or an internally mounted phono stage.

The work also provides a useful opportunity to inspect the suspension, tonearm cable, motor wiring and condition of the wooden plinth.

Linn Trampolin Aluminium Base

Linn Trampolin is an aluminium LP12 baseboard fitted with suspended feet.

Acoustic damping material is incorporated into the foot system to help reduce vibration travelling between the turntable and its supporting furniture.

Trampolin attaches directly to the wooden LP12 plinth and can be specified on a new custom-built deck or fitted as an upgrade to an existing compatible LP12.

It is supplied as standard with the current Linn Selekt LP12 .

Suspended Feet for Additional Isolation

The Trampolin feet provide a controlled degree of movement beneath the wooden plinth.

This additional isolation is separate from the LP12's internal suspended sub-chassis.

The feet are designed to reduce interference entering through a cabinet, equipment rack or other supporting surface before that vibration reaches the turntable structure.

Linn's support information also describes the feet as adjustable, allowing the turntable to be levelled when the furniture itself is not perfectly even.

Internal LP12 Suspension

  • Supports the platter, bearing and tonearm assembly
  • Operates within the wooden LP12 plinth
  • Must be correctly levelled and adjusted
  • Tonearm cable must not restrict its movement

Trampolin Feet

  • Support the complete turntable and plinth
  • Provide additional isolation beneath the LP12
  • Use acoustic damping material
  • Can accommodate minor variations in the support level

Standard on Selekt LP12

Trampolin forms part of the current Selekt LP12 specification.

The Selekt package combines Trampolin with the Karousel bearing, Kore sub-chassis, Arko tonearm, Kendo moving coil cartridge and Lingo motor-control system.

These components are selected to provide a balanced step above the Majik LP12 within Linn's current turntable range.

Trampolin can also be selected for a custom-built LP12 or used to upgrade an existing compatible deck.

Furniture, Flooring and Turntable Isolation

The best baseboard depends partly on the construction of the listening room.

A heavy cabinet placed on a solid concrete floor behaves very differently from lightweight furniture positioned on a flexible suspended wooden floor.

Trampolin can provide additional isolation from vibration entering through standard furniture or a heavy supporting surface.

Where a suspended floor moves noticeably as people walk across the room, the turntable may still benefit from being placed on a suitable wall-mounted shelf.

Solid Floor and Heavy Furniture

  • Trampolin can reduce floor-borne vibration
  • Supporting furniture must remain stable
  • Feet should be adjusted so the LP12 is level
  • Ventilation and service access must be retained

Suspended Wooden Floor

  • Floor movement can affect the complete support
  • Additional compliant feet may not solve structural movement
  • A rigid wall shelf may provide better isolation
  • The installation should be assessed before ordering

Trampolin Is Not a Substitute for a Suitable Support

The suspended feet help isolate the LP12 from vibration, but they cannot make an unstable or unsuitable piece of furniture rigid.

The turntable should still be placed on a strong, level and appropriately positioned support.

High-Quality Aluminium Construction

Both Solid Base and Trampolin are manufactured from aluminium and attach directly to the wooden LP12 plinth.

The baseboard creates a rigid underside for the turntable and helps protect the internal motor, suspension, wiring and other components from accidental contact.

Aluminium also provides a more substantial and durable replacement for older fibreboard or non-aluminium LP12 baseboards.

The fixing screws must be installed correctly and evenly so that the base sits securely against the plinth without damaging the wood or distorting the board.

Protecting the Underside of the LP12

The underside of a Sondek LP12 contains its suspension, motor wiring, tonearm cable and, depending on specification, internal motor-control or phono-stage components.

A correctly installed baseboard closes this area while retaining the ability for an experienced technician to remove the base during servicing.

The base should not be modified, drilled or used to attach unrelated accessories.

Cables should leave the turntable through their intended routes without being trapped between the baseboard and wooden plinth.

Compatibility with Urika and Urika II

Linn Urika and Urika II are internally mounted moving coil phono stages designed for installation within the LP12 plinth.

These products are mounted on their own integrated Trampolin baseboard rather than being combined with a separate standard Solid Base or Trampolin.

The Linn Radikal and Urika options should therefore be considered as a complete system before ordering an additional baseboard.

Check Internal Phono-Stage Compatibility

Do not order a separate baseboard for an LP12 fitted with Urika or Urika II without first confirming the complete configuration.

The internal phono stage, Radikal power supply, tonearm cable and integrated Trampolin assembly must be treated as one installation.

Retrofitting an Existing Sondek LP12

Both current base options can be fitted to existing LP12 turntables, subject to inspection and compatibility.

The age of the deck does not necessarily prevent an upgrade because the Sondek LP12 has been designed around a modular and serviceable architecture.

However, older decks may contain previous baseboards, power supplies, cable arrangements or dealer modifications that must be checked before fitting the new component.

An inspection should confirm that the wooden plinth remains square and secure and that the new base will not interfere with any internal equipment.

Professional Installation and LP12 Setup

Trampolin is a dealer-installed upgrade, and professional fitting is also recommended when changing Solid Base on an existing LP12.

The turntable must be safely supported while the existing base is removed and the internal components remain exposed.

The installer should check that no wiring is trapped, the tonearm cable moves correctly and the suspended sub-chassis remains level after the deck is returned to its normal playing position.

When Trampolin is fitted, its feet should be adjusted so that the plinth and platter sit level on the intended support.

The Internal Suspension May Need Rechecking

Changing the baseboard or feet changes the way the complete turntable sits on its support.

The platter level, suspension movement and tonearm cable dressing should therefore be checked after installation.

Baseboard Upgrade or Full LP12 Service?

Replacing the baseboard provides a sensible opportunity to assess the wider condition of the turntable.

The main bearing, drive belt, suspension springs, grommets, motor position, tonearm bearings and cartridge setup all contribute to LP12 performance.

Fitting Trampolin to a turntable with a restricted suspension or worn drive belt will not correct those separate problems.

Planning a New LP12 Package

This product page can be used to complete a custom LP12 specification by choosing the required base option.

Solid Base is the natural match for a Majik-level deck or an installation using a purpose-designed isolated support.

Trampolin is the standard choice for Selekt LP12 and can provide a worthwhile finishing upgrade to many other LP12 specifications.

The base should be selected alongside the plinth, sub-chassis, motor supply, tonearm, cartridge and phono-stage arrangement rather than treated as a purely cosmetic accessory.

Planning an Upgrade for an Existing LP12

Owners of older LP12 turntables should begin with an inspection of the existing base and support.

A worn fibreboard base, damaged feet or a board that no longer sits securely against the plinth can make Solid Base a practical first upgrade.

Trampolin may be the better option where the turntable requires additional isolation and the room, floor and furniture suit suspended feet.

The complete deck should be checked before purchase to avoid ordering a separate baseboard that conflicts with an existing internal phono stage or non-standard modification.
