Little Fwend High Mk2 Automatic Tonearm Lifter

Audio T Verdict

The Little Fwend High Mk2 adds automatic end-of-side lifting to compatible manual turntables, with extra reach for taller platter and tonearm arrangements. Its two magnetic extender bases make it a useful option where the standard Low version will not reach. Once correctly fitted, it lifts the stylus clear when the music ends, giving you time to return to the turntable.

Little Fwend High Mk2 Automatic Tonearm Lifter

The High Mk2 combines Little Fwend's mechanical tonearm lifter with two magnetically attached extender bases. It is designed for installations needing a greater distance between the mounting surface and the underside of the tonearm, including selected turntables from Clearaudio, VPI, Dr. Feickert, Kuzma and other manufacturers. Compatibility depends on the actual mounting space and arm height.

Automatic Lifting When a Record Side Finishes

As the tonearm travels into the run-out area, it meets the trigger antenna and releases the lifting mechanism. The stylus is raised clear of the record, helping avoid unnecessary time circling the locked groove if a phone call, a visitor or another distraction keeps you away. It is a practical convenience for a manual vinyl system, particularly when you cannot return immediately after the final track.

Two Magnetic Extender Bases

The supplied extender bases provide the additional reach that distinguishes the High Mk2 from the Low model. Together with the lifter's height adjustment, they give an overall operating range of 32–94mm. Select the appropriate base arrangement for the installation and follow the manufacturer's setup guidance, checking the final height and trigger position with your usual record and mat in place.

Automatic Lift, with Manual Return and Switch-Off

The High Mk2 raises the tonearm at the end of a side. Returning the arm to its rest and switching off the motor remain manual tasks. Reset the trigger antenna before playing each side so the mechanism is ready to operate again.

Check Height and Mounting Space

A thicker platter can make the High version appropriate, but platter thickness alone does not establish compatibility. Check the distance from the intended mounting surface to the arm, together with the space available beneath it near the run-out position.

32–94mm Operating Range

Measure from the mounting surface to the underside of the tonearm with the stylus in the groove. The High Mk2 covers 32–94mm using its adjustment and supplied extender bases.

Clear, Flat Mounting Area

Allow approximately 28mm diameter of unobstructed, flat mounting surface between the edge of the platter and the tonearm base, beneath the arm near the end of a side.

Little Fwend lists the High version for the Clearaudio Concept, Clearaudio Performance DC, VPI Prime and Prime Signature, Dr. Feickert Woodpecker and Pro-Ject Xtension 10 Evolution, among others. Check your exact model against the manufacturer's compatibility list and printable height gauge. Print the gauge at 100% scale, and check modified tonearm or platter arrangements separately.

Mechanical Operation Without an Extra Power Supply

The High Mk2 operates mechanically, with no batteries, external power supply or electrical connection to your Hi-Fi system. It sits outside the audio signal path between the cartridge and phono stage, so the existing connections remain in place. The small trigger mechanism responds to the arm's movement rather than relying on a timer set to the length of the record.

Stainless Steel and Individual Assembly

The current Mk2 design uses solid stainless steel with a glass-blasted finish. Its components are precision machined in Switzerland, then hand-assembled and individually tuned by Lasse and Jeremy in Oslo, Norway. The attention to mechanical fit and adjustment suits an accessory that needs to respond to the tonearm and lift it in a controlled manner.

Magnetic Mounting for Easier Adjustment

The lifter attaches magnetically to its mounting disc, allowing the body to be removed for height adjustment and repositioned afterwards. Rotating it on the disc changes where the trigger meets the arm. The manufacturer's Low/High instructions also describe a non-adhesive mounting option using the supplied disc or pad.

Test the Lift Before Regular Use

Follow the official Low/High mounting instructions. Check that the lifting beam remains clear of the arm during playback, then test from the end of the final track. Adjust the trigger position if necessary so that lifting starts after the music finishes.

High Mk2 or Low Mk2?

High Mk2: Greater Height Flexibility

Choose the High Mk2 when your installation needs the additional reach of its extender bases. Its overall adjustable range is 32–94mm.

Low Mk2: Standard Height Range

The Low Mk2 covers 32–49mm and suits many conventional platter and plinth arrangements. Check both measurements and mounting space before choosing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the extender bases included with the High Mk2?

Yes. Two magnetically attached extender bases form part of the High Mk2 package.

Will it fit every turntable with a thick platter?

Check the mounting surface, tonearm clearance and exact turntable model. A thick platter alone does not confirm that there is a suitable mounting position.

Does it need resetting for each record side?

Yes. Reset the trigger antenna before each side, following the fitting instructions.

Does it return the arm or switch off the turntable?

It lifts the tonearm. You return the arm to its rest and switch off the motor yourself.
