That might sound like a fairly simple change, but the platter is the surface directly supporting the record, so controlling its mechanical behaviour is fundamental to what eventually reaches the cartridge.
Underneath, the Swift retains Origin Live's Mk5 Motor Power Supply, DC100 motor, ultra-low-friction main bearing, suspended sub-chassis and mechanically decoupled armboard. It is a refreshingly engineering-led design where the motor, bearing, belt, platter and arm mounting are all considered parts of the same mechanical system.
This version is supplied without a tonearm or cartridge, giving you the freedom to choose the combination that best suits your system. Pair it with something like the Onyx or Silver Mk5 and it becomes a very serious British-built vinyl source without immediately stepping into the more elaborate inertia-loaded architecture of the Calypso.

Multi-Layer Platter Fitted as Standard
The most significant step from the Aurora to the Swift is the addition of Origin Live's Multi-Layer Platter.
Rather than constructing the record-support surface from one homogeneous material, Origin Live combines mechanically different layers designed to interact with vibration in different ways.
The upper platter structure incorporates more than 1,000 individually cut slots, while further material layers beneath provide additional mechanical interfaces.
The concept was developed from work undertaken on Origin Live's higher-end turntables and is now fitted as standard to current Mk5 models from the Swift upwards.
Why Does the Platter Matter?
The stylus does not simply receive vibration from the record groove. Energy can also travel through the record, platter, bearing and turntable structure. The surface immediately supporting the record therefore plays an important part in determining how that energy is managed.
Multi-Material Resonance Control
Using multiple materials allows Origin Live to avoid relying on one material with one dominant resonant behaviour.
The layers are designed so that vibrational energy encounters several mechanically different interfaces as it travels through the platter rather than being reflected repeatedly within one uniform structure.

Mk5 Motor Power Supply
The Swift uses Origin Live's current Mk5 Motor Power Supply.
The Mk5 controller was developed around revised electronics and a new control PCB, with Origin Live focusing on consistent rotational behaviour and reducing motor-related effects such as:

DC100 Swiss Motor

The motor is also mechanically decoupled from the main platter and tonearm structure, helping reduce direct transmission of motor vibration into the record-playing system.
Separate Motor Pod
Rather than mounting the motor rigidly within a conventional plinth, Origin Live positions it in a separate pod adjacent to the platter.
This physically separates an important source of mechanical vibration from the platter bearing and tonearm structure.
The motor still maintains the required relationship with the platter through the drive belt, but does not form part of the main suspended structure.
Origin Live Drive Belt
Origin Live manufactures its own drive belts rather than relying on a conventional generic neoprene belt.
