Pro-Ject T1 EVO Turntable

Audio T Verdict

The Pro-Ject T1 EVO is a sensible way into a proper separates-based vinyl system. Its glass platter, one-piece aluminium tonearm and factory-fitted Ortofon OM10 give it solid foundations, while electronic speed selection makes switching between LPs and singles easy.

This is the standard T1 EVO, with an unamplified phono output. It makes particular sense if your amplifier already has a Moving Magnet phono input, or if you want to choose a separate phono stage to suit your system.

Pro-Ject T1 EVO Turntable

The T1 EVO is a manual, belt-driven turntable designed to make getting started with vinyl straightforward without losing sight of the parts that matter: a stable drive system, a well-made tonearm and a capable cartridge. Pro-Ject supplies the Ortofon OM10 Moving Magnet cartridge fitted and adjusted, and offers the turntable in High Gloss Black, Satin White and Walnut.

  • Electronic selection of 33 and 45 RPM
  • 8mm blasted-glass platter and felt record mat
  • Belt drive with a redesigned, vibration-resistant sub-platter
  • 8.6-inch one-piece aluminium tonearm
  • Pre-fitted Ortofon OM10 cartridge with elliptical stylus
  • Connect it Phono E RCA cable and hinged dust cover

Built Around the Basics

A solid CNC-machined plinth, isolation feet, glass platter and stainless-steel/brass main bearing help give the stylus a stable platform from which to read the groove.

Easy to Live With

The cartridge is already fitted and the speed changes electronically. You still have the hands-on experience of lowering the arm and turning the record over yourself.

Belt Drive and Glass Platter

The motor drives a belt around a redesigned sub-platter, which turns on a hardened steel spindle and brass bearing. Above it sits a substantial 8mm blasted-glass platter. Pro-Ject uses these parts to control unwanted vibration and provide steady rotation, while the supplied felt mat supports the record during playback.

Aluminium Tonearm and Ortofon OM10

The straight 8.6-inch aluminium tonearm has an integrated headshell and low-friction bearings. It comes with an Ortofon OM10 Moving Magnet cartridge already fitted. Its elliptical diamond stylus is designed to trace fine detail in the record groove, giving the T1 EVO a useful cartridge from day one rather than an immediate upgrade to budget for.

When the stylus eventually needs replacing, you can fit a compatible Ortofon Stylus 10 without replacing the whole cartridge. Your local Audio T store can help with a tracking-force check or advise on other compatible stylus options.

Check Your Amplifier Connection

This standard T1 EVO does not have a built-in phono stage or Bluetooth. Its cable carries the low-level signal from the Moving Magnet cartridge. Connect it to an amplifier or receiver with an MM phono input, or use a separate MM phono stage between the turntable and an ordinary AUX or line input. It will not work correctly when plugged directly into a standard line input.

Manual Playback, Simple Speed Changes

Use the electronic control to select 33 RPM for LPs or 45 RPM for singles, without moving the belt by hand. Place the tonearm over the record and lower it with the cueing lever; when the side finishes, lift and return the arm yourself. A hinged dust cover is included to help protect the turntable between listening sessions.

Which T1 EVO Version Is This?

This Audio T listing is for the standard T1 EVO in your choice of Black, Walnut or White. Pro-Ject also makes separate T1 EVO Phono and T1 EVO BT models. The Phono version adds a switchable built-in phono stage; the BT version adds that flexibility and Bluetooth transmission. Those features are not included with the standard turntable listed here.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I connect it directly to my amplifier?

Yes, if the amplifier has a suitable Moving Magnet phono input. If it only has ordinary AUX, CD or other line inputs, you will need a separate MM phono stage.

Does it play both LPs and singles?

Yes. It has electronic 33 and 45 RPM speed selection. A 78 RPM mode is not specified.
