Audio T Verdict
The Cartridge Enabler is one of those wonderfully simple Origin Live ideas. It is little more than a carefully developed layer of material placed between the cartridge and headshell, yet that position happens to be right at one of the most mechanically sensitive points in the entire turntable.
Its job is to reduce unwanted vibration travelling between the cartridge body and tonearm while still maintaining a secure mounting. Origin Live also uses matching isolation washers around the cartridge bolts to address another potential route for vibration transmission.
There is a useful bonus too. Because the material can compress slightly, it can provide a small amount of azimuth adjustment on tonearms that otherwise offer no easy way of altering cartridge angle.
Origin Live Cartridge Enabler
The Origin Live Cartridge Enabler is a thin isolation interface designed to fit between a conventional bolt-mounted phono cartridge and the underside of a tonearm headshell.
Origin Live developed it as a simple way of reducing unwanted mechanical energy travelling between the cartridge and tonearm without replacing either component.
It can be used with Moving Magnet and Moving Coil cartridges provided the cartridge uses conventional mounting bolts.
Cartridge Isolation at the Headshell
A phono cartridge is an extremely sensitive mechanical transducer. Its purpose is to convert microscopic stylus movement into an electrical signal, which also means vibration arriving from elsewhere in the turntable structure can potentially influence what the cartridge receives.
The Cartridge Enabler introduces a thin compliant layer between the top of the cartridge body and the headshell.
Origin Live uses a specially treated flexible material chosen to absorb energy across a broad range of frequencies rather than behaving like a hard mechanical spacer.
Isolation Washers Included
Vibration can also travel through the cartridge mounting bolts, effectively bypassing an isolation layer placed only between the cartridge body and headshell.
To address this, Origin Live supplies additional washers made from the same isolation material, together with nylon washers that spread the pressure beneath the bolt heads.
The complete mounting arrangement therefore treats both the cartridge body and fixing bolts rather than concentrating on only one point of contact.
Precision-Cut Profile
The Cartridge Enabler uses precision-cut slots so that the mounting bolts can pass through while retaining the intended shape around the cartridge.
Origin Live deliberately avoids using a self-adhesive backing or large enclosed bolt holes, as the company found during development that changes to the material profile affected its performance.
The result is a small component that requires a little care during installation but does not permanently attach itself to either the cartridge or headshell.
Approximately 1mm Additional Cartridge Height
Installing the Cartridge Enabler adds approximately 1mm to the effective height of the cartridge.
Where the tonearm provides Vertical Tracking Angle or arm-height adjustment, Origin Live recommends raising the rear of the tonearm by approximately the same amount.
Cartridge Setup Must Be Checked After Fitting
Do not simply insert the Cartridge Enabler and continue playing records without checking the setup.
Once fitted, the cartridge should be realigned and the tracking force checked again. Tonearm height should also be adjusted where the arm allows it.
Allows Fine Azimuth Adjustment
The slight compressibility of the Enabler provides another useful function: limited cartridge azimuth adjustment.
By tightening one cartridge mounting bolt slightly more than the other, the Enabler can compress fractionally on one side and alter the cartridge angle relative to the headshell.
This can be particularly useful with tonearms that do not provide a dedicated azimuth adjustment system.
What Is Cartridge Azimuth?
Viewed from the front, the cartridge and stylus should normally sit correctly aligned relative to the record surface. Azimuth describes this side-to-side angle.
Accurate setup can help the stylus sit correctly within the groove and maintain appropriate relationship between the left and right channels.
Broad Cartridge Compatibility
Origin Live states that the Cartridge Enabler can be used with cartridges that attach to the tonearm using conventional mounting bolts.
This covers a very wide range of Moving Magnet and Moving Coil cartridges and means the Enabler is not restricted to Origin Live tonearms or turntables.
It is not intended as a universal solution for cartridges that use completely different mounting arrangements, such as integrated or non-standard fixing systems.
Suitable for Origin Live and Other Tonearms
The Cartridge Enabler can be fitted to Origin Live tonearms as well as compatible arms from other manufacturers.
The main practical requirement is enough clearance to accommodate the extra 1mm of cartridge height, particularly if the tonearm does not offer adjustable arm height.
On a fixed-height tonearm, the change is small, but the resulting cartridge geometry should still be considered as part of the complete setup.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does the Origin Live Cartridge Enabler do?
It introduces a specially treated isolation layer between the cartridge body and tonearm headshell to reduce unwanted vibration transmission.
Where does it fit?
It fits directly between the top of the cartridge body and the underside of the headshell.
Will it work with Moving Magnet cartridges?
Yes. Origin Live states that it can be used with conventional bolt-mounted cartridges, including Moving Magnet designs.
Will it work with Moving Coil cartridges?
Yes. It can also be used with conventional bolt-mounted Moving Coil cartridges.
Does it only work with Origin Live tonearms?
No. It is intended for use with compatible tonearms from other manufacturers as well as Origin Live arms.
How much height does it add?
Approximately 1mm.
Do I need to adjust VTA?
Where your tonearm allows height adjustment, Origin Live recommends raising the arm base by approximately 1mm to compensate for the additional cartridge height.
Do I need to reset tracking force?
Yes. Origin Live recommends checking and resetting tracking force after installation.
Does the cartridge need to be realigned?
Yes. Cartridge alignment should be checked again after fitting.
Can it adjust azimuth?
To a limited degree, yes. Tightening one cartridge bolt slightly more than the other can compress the Enabler on one side and provide small azimuth adjustment.
Does it include washers?
Yes. Origin Live supplies washers made from the isolation material together with nylon washers to spread the load beneath the cartridge mounting bolts.
Does it stick to the cartridge?
No. Origin Live deliberately does not use a self-adhesive design.
Will it fit every cartridge?
Origin Live states that it is suitable for cartridges using conventional attachment bolts. Cartridges with unusual or integrated mounting systems should be checked before fitting.
Is it difficult to install?
The physical installation is straightforward, but accurate cartridge alignment, tracking force and arm-height setup are important afterwards. Audio T can fit and set it up if required.

Why Buy Origin Live From Audio T?
The Cartridge Enabler itself is a simple upgrade, but fitting anything between a cartridge and tonearm means the cartridge setup needs to be checked afterwards. Audio T can install it correctly and make sure alignment, tracking force and arm height remain where they should be.
