Audio T Verdict
The Audio-Technica AT-VM530xEN is the point in the VMx 500 Series where the cartridge takes a meaningful mechanical step forward. It retains the revised generator, polymer body and aluminium cantilever of the AT-VM520xEB, but replaces its bonded elliptical diamond with a much lighter nude elliptical stylus.
Both cartridges use the same 0.3 x 0.7mil elliptical groove geometry. The difference is in how the diamond is constructed. The 520xEB bonds a small diamond tip to a supporting shank, while the 530xEN uses the diamond itself as the complete stylus tip and shank.
That reduction in moving mass allows the stylus to respond more readily to modulation within the record groove. Audio-Technica combines the nude diamond with a revised suspension wire, extending the stated frequency response to 25kHz and increasing channel separation to 25dB.
The generator is equally interesting. The VMx design uses two magnets corresponding to the two walls of the stereo groove, paratoroidal coils with two coils per channel, upgraded PCUHD copper wire and a central shielding plate between the channels.

Nude Elliptical Stylus
