Linn Bedrok Superior-Performance LP12 Plinth Upgrade

Linn Bedrok Superior-Performance LP12 Plinth Upgrade

Audio T Verdict

Linn Bedrok™ is a fundamental upgrade for the Sondek LP12, replacing the standard wooden plinth with an exceptionally dense and rigid structure designed to provide a more stable foundation for the entire turntable.

Because the bearing, suspension, top plate, motor, armboard, tonearm and base are all supported directly or indirectly by the plinth, improving this foundation can benefit the performance of every component installed within the deck.

Bedrok™ is intended for carefully developed LP12 systems where owners are looking for improvements in timing, bass control, clarity and musical insight. It requires the turntable to be fully dismantled, rebuilt and set up by an experienced Linn specialist.

Linn Bedrok™ Superior-Performance LP12 Plinth Upgrade

Bedrok™ is Linn's first dedicated performance plinth upgrade for the Sondek LP12.

Rather than being carved from a conventional piece of timber, it is manufactured from orthogonal layers of beech compressed under extreme heat and pressure. The resulting engineered material is exceptionally dense, solid and resistant to unwanted resonance.

Bedrok™ retains the familiar proportions of the Sondek LP12 while changing the material, internal machining and fixing arrangements beneath the surface.

Why the LP12 Plinth Matters

The plinth is much more than the visible outer frame of an LP12. It supports the top plate and provides the reference structure around which the suspension, bearing, motor, sub-chassis, tonearm and base are assembled.

Stability, mass distribution and resonant behaviour within the plinth can therefore influence the operation of the entire turntable.

Bedrok™ provides a more substantial and consistently manufactured foundation, allowing the components installed within the LP12 to work from a rigid and accurately machined structure.

Densified Laminated Beech Construction

Bedrok™ is formed from multiple layers of beech arranged at opposing angles before being compressed under high pressure and heat.

This process creates a material with more than twice the density of a standard LP12 plinth. Its structure is uniform throughout, avoiding many of the natural variations found within a conventional piece of solid timber.

The finished material has a density of approximately 1400 kg/m³ and the complete plinth weighs approximately 3.75 kg.

Linn describes the resulting structure as having extremely low resonance and improved acoustic isolation, giving the LP12 components a more stable platform from which to operate.

Precision-Machined Interior

The density and consistency of the Bedrok™ material allow Linn to machine its internal architecture with considerable precision.

The interior is shaped to accommodate the established Sondek LP12 component layout while maintaining carefully controlled mass distribution.

This means Bedrok™ can support the wide range of current LP12 bearings, power supplies, sub-chassis, tonearms, phono stages and base options while retaining the modular upgradeability central to the turntable's design.

Threaded Steel Inserts

Bedrok™ introduces threaded steel inserts throughout the plinth.

On a conventional wooden LP12 plinth, several fittings are secured directly into the timber. With Bedrok™, the relevant components are attached using accurately positioned metal threads instead.

This provides a consistent fixing arrangement during the initial build and when the turntable is dismantled for future servicing or upgrades.

The inserts are designed to improve long-term reliability by removing the need to repeatedly screw fixings directly into the plinth material.

Supplied with a Matching Top Plate

Bedrok™ is supplied with a dedicated stainless-steel LP12 top plate.

The plate follows the established Linn design but incorporates two subtle curves that allow it to meet the upper lip of the machined plinth neatly.

The included top plate is an important part of the Bedrok™ installation and should be fitted as part of the complete turntable rebuild.

Compatible with the Sondek LP12 Platform

Bedrok™ is designed around the modular Sondek LP12 architecture and can be used with a wide range of Linn component levels.

It may form part of a highly developed Klimax LP12, but it is not restricted to a single LP12 specification. Its wider compatibility allows an existing deck to retain suitable components and continue along the Linn upgrade path.

The final suitability of an individual turntable should still be assessed before installation. An older LP12 may require servicing, replacement fixings or additional component work while it is dismantled.

Bedrok™ and the LP12 Upgrade Path

The best upgrade route depends on the current specification, condition and age of the individual LP12.

Bedrok™ can benefit the complete turntable, but an owner may obtain better value by first addressing an older bearing, power supply, sub-chassis or worn suspension components.

Audio T can inspect the deck and discuss Bedrok™ alongside other available LP12 upgrades, including Karousel, Kore, Keel SE, Lingo and Radikal.

Existing LP12 Owners

Bedrok™ can be considered when upgrading an established LP12 whose principal components are already performing at a high level.

The installation also provides an opportunity to inspect and service the complete turntable.

New LP12 Builds

Bedrok™ can be specified as the foundation of a newly configured LP12 using carefully selected bearing, power-supply, sub-chassis, tonearm and cartridge options.

Audio T can help plan the complete specification around the available system and budget.

Professional LP12 Installation by Audio T

Fitting Bedrok™ requires the complete LP12 to be dismantled and rebuilt. The bearing, suspension, motor, sub-chassis, tonearm, cartridge, power supply and base components must all be transferred and correctly adjusted.

This is not a home-installation accessory. Audio T staff are qualified to build, service and set up Linn Sondek LP12 turntables, including the precise suspension and cartridge adjustments required after the plinth has been changed.

Contact your local Audio T store to discuss the specification of your turntable, installation arrangements and any additional servicing that may be recommended.

Natural Wood Appearance

Bedrok™ is supplied in a natural wood finish that reveals the tightly layered structure of the densified beech material.

The appearance is deliberately different from Linn's conventional smooth, fluted, lacquered and special-finish plinth options.

Natural variations within the visible wood and laminated structure should be expected and form part of the material's character.

A plinth upgrade cannot be assessed from specifications alone. The result depends on the components fitted to the LP12 and the ability of the wider system to reveal the change.

Audio T has compared Bedrok™ with conventional LP12 plinths and can help demonstrate the differences in timing, bass definition, clarity and musical organisation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Linn Bedrok™ a complete turntable?

No. Bedrok™ is a replacement plinth and matching top plate for a Sondek LP12. The bearing, motor, power supply, suspension, sub-chassis, tonearm, cartridge and base components are separate.

Can Bedrok™ be fitted to an older LP12?

It is designed around the Sondek LP12 platform, but an older deck should be inspected first. Servicing or additional replacement parts may be advisable while the turntable is dismantled.

Does Bedrok™ include a new top plate?

Yes. A dedicated stainless-steel top plate with subtle curved sections is included.

Why are threaded steel inserts used?

They provide durable and repeatable fixing points without repeatedly driving screws directly into the plinth material during builds, services and future upgrades.

Which finish is available?

Bedrok™ is supplied in a natural wood finish that displays the structure of the densified laminated beech.

Can I install Bedrok™ myself?

Professional installation is strongly recommended. The entire LP12 must be dismantled, rebuilt and precisely adjusted after fitting.

Can Audio T fit and set up Bedrok™?

Yes. Contact your local Audio T store for an LP12 assessment, upgrade advice, installation and full turntable setup.
