A five-inch full-colour display, toughened-glass front panel and hidden-until-lit touch controls give the 40 AMP a cleaner and more contemporary appearance than earlier Cyrus amplifiers while retaining the brand’s familiar half-width format.

Digital conversion is handled by an ESS Sabre ES9039Q2M 32-bit DAC using HyperStream IV Dual DAC technology.
Cyrus has designed the surrounding analogue circuitry, power supplies and circuit-board layout around the converter rather than relying solely on the specification of the DAC chip.
The amplifier’s S/PDIF inputs support PCM from 16-bit/44.1kHz to 24-bit/192kHz. Its asynchronous USB-B input supports PCM up to 32-bit/384kHz, native DSD up to DSD256 and DoP up to DoP128.
Optical, Coaxial and USB Audio
One optical and two coaxial digital inputs accommodate equipment such as CD transports, streamers and other compatible digital sources.
The asynchronous USB-B input allows a Mac or Windows computer to use the Cyrus DAC for music playback. An appropriate Cyrus USB driver may be required for compatible Windows systems.
The rear USB-A and RJ45 connections are provided for firmware updates. They do not add network streaming or ordinary USB-drive music playback.
HDMI eARC for Television Sound
HDMI eARC allows a compatible television to use the 40 AMP and connected stereo speakers instead of its built-in sound system.

A separate fixed-level output is also provided. This does not follow the amplifier’s volume setting and can be used with suitable recording or external equipment requiring a constant line-level signal.
Headphone Listening
A dedicated headphone output allows private listening without adding a separate headphone amplifier.
Compatibility and available volume will depend on the impedance and sensitivity of the connected headphones.
Especially demanding models may still benefit from a dedicated headphone amplifier, but the built-in output provides a convenient solution for most everyday listening.
Optional Cyrus 40 PSU Upgrade
The
Cyrus 40 PSU
connects to the amplifier through a dedicated multi-pin power cable.
When added, the external supply powers the 40 AMP’s preamplifier section and reinforces the main power-amplifier supply rails. The amplifier’s internal supply is then left to concentrate on the DAC section.
Cyrus specifies an increase from 100W to 113W per channel into 6O, although the main purpose of the PSU is to improve the quality and separation of the available power rather than simply adding output.
Both the amplifier and 40 PSU remain connected to mains power, and the connected products communicate automatically to configure the external supply correctly.
Compact 40 Series Chassis

The
Cyrus 80 AMP
is a larger full-width model with 150W-per-channel amplification, built-in BluOS streaming, MM and MC phono compatibility and balanced XLR connections.
The 40 AMP is more compact and provides 100W per channel, an MM phono stage and conventional RCA connectivity. It does not include network music streaming, but it can be partnered with the matching Cyrus 40 ST.
