Audio T Verdict
The Hisense PX3-Pro delivers genuine cinema-sized pictures without requiring the long cable runs, ceiling mount or clear projection path associated with a conventional home cinema projector.
Its ultra-short-throw design allows it to produce an image between 80 and 150 inches while sitting on furniture close to the screen. This makes it particularly well suited to living rooms and multipurpose spaces where a traditional projector installation would be impractical.
The Pure Triple Colour Laser system produces 3,000 ANSI lumens and covers a quoted 110% of the BT.2020 colour space, giving films, sport and games vivid colour without depending on a conventional colour wheel.
Native contrast is specified at 3,000:1, while Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HLG, IMAX Enhanced and Filmmaker Mode provide strong support for modern film and streaming formats.
The built-in 50W Harman Kardon speaker system is considerably more substantial than the audio found in most projectors, although HDMI ARC and optical audio allow the PX3-Pro to become the centre of a full surround sound system.
For the strongest daytime performance, it should be combined with a properly installed ultra-short-throw ambient-light-rejecting screen. Correct furniture height and millimetre-accurate alignment are also essential, but once installed correctly, the PX3-Pro offers a convincing alternative to an extremely large television.
Hisense PX3-Pro 4K TriChroma Ultra Short Throw Laser Projector
The Hisense PX3-Pro, official UK model PX3TUK-PRO, is a premium 4K smart laser cinema projector designed to create images between 80 and 150 inches from a position close to the screen.
It combines ultra-short-throw projection, a Pure Triple Colour Laser light source, 3,000 ANSI-lumen brightness, 3,000:1 native contrast and wide 110% BT.2020 colour coverage.
VIDAA U7 provides integrated streaming and content sharing, while the 50W Harman Kardon audio system, Dolby Atmos processing and comprehensive connectivity allow the projector to operate as a complete entertainment system or form part of a dedicated home cinema.
Projector Screen Not Included
This Audio T product page is for the PX3-Pro projector console. A projector screen is not included.
A suitable ultra-short-throw screen should be selected separately according to the required picture size, room lighting, viewing position and installation height.
Ultra-Short-Throw Projection
The PX3-Pro uses an ultra-short-throw lens with a quoted throw ratio of 0.22:1.
This allows it to create a very large image while sitting on a cabinet close to the screen rather than being installed at the opposite end of the room.
People can move around the room without regularly crossing the projection beam, and there is no need to route a long HDMI cable to a ceiling-mounted projector.
Ultra Short Throw Still Requires Planning
The projector must sit a specific distance from the screen and at the correct height for the chosen picture size.
Even small changes in distance, height or angle can noticeably alter the image geometry, so the furniture, screen and projector should be planned together.
80-Inch to 150-Inch Image Range
Hisense specifies an adjustable projection range from approximately 80 inches to 150 inches diagonally.
This allows the PX3-Pro to replace a very large television or create a more immersive cinema-sized image in a suitable room.
The maximum 150-inch size requires considerably more wall area and viewing distance than a typical television installation, so room measurements should be confirmed before ordering.
Check the Complete Screen Dimensions
A screen’s quoted size describes its diagonal measurement rather than its width.
Allow additional space for the screen frame, speakers, furniture and the height required between the projector and the bottom edge of the image.
4K Ultra HD Resolution
The PX3-Pro supports a maximum display resolution of 3840 × 2160 pixels.
More than eight million displayed pixels provide the fine detail required for very large projected images, where the limitations of lower-resolution material become considerably easier to see.
Internal Ultra HD upscaling can improve the presentation of compatible lower-resolution content, although it cannot recreate detail that was absent from the original source.
Pure Triple Colour Laser
The projector uses separate red, green and blue laser illumination rather than creating its complete colour range from a single blue laser and phosphor wheel.
Hisense refers to this system as Pure Triple Colour Laser or TriChroma technology.
The separate laser sources are designed to deliver strong colour brightness, wide colour coverage and precise tonal variation across films, television, animation and games.
LPU Digital Laser Engine
Hisense’s LPU Digital Laser Engine combines the triple-laser light source with real-time picture processing.
The system analyses brightness, contrast, colour and picture noise to optimise the projected image for different content.
Laser illumination also avoids the regular lamp replacements required by traditional lamp-based projectors.
110% BT.2020 Colour Coverage
Hisense quotes colour coverage equivalent to 110% of the BT.2020 colour space.
This gives the PX3-Pro access to a broader range of colours than conventional Rec.709 displays and many single-laser projectors.
Wide colour capability is particularly noticeable with HDR films, animation, games and nature programmes containing highly saturated colours.
Wide Colour Is Not the Same as Accurate Colour
A projector can reproduce a broad colour range without every picture mode being perfectly accurate.
Choose a suitable cinema or Filmmaker Mode preset, or consider professional calibration for the greatest accuracy in a permanent installation.
More Than One Billion Colours
The PX3-Pro supports 10-bit colour processing and a quoted palette of approximately 1.07 billion colours.
This helps produce smoother transitions in skies, shadows and other areas containing subtle changes in colour or brightness.
The source, HDMI output settings and content must also support the required colour depth to realise the full benefit.
3,000 ANSI-Lumen Brightness
Hisense UK specifies a brightness output of 3,000 ANSI lumens.
This provides sufficient light output for large, vivid images and makes the PX3-Pro more practical in a living room than many lower-brightness cinema projectors.
Ambient light will still reduce black depth and perceived contrast, particularly when projecting onto a plain white wall or conventional white screen.
A Suitable Screen Still Matters
High brightness helps the image remain visible in a brighter room, but it cannot prevent ambient light from reaching the projection surface.
A properly selected ultra-short-throw ambient-light-rejecting screen will normally provide better contrast and daytime performance than a plain wall.
3,000:1 Native Contrast
The PX3-Pro has a quoted native contrast ratio of 3,000:1.
Improved contrast allows dark areas to retain greater depth while preserving detail within brighter parts of the same scene.
The visible result will still depend heavily on room lighting, screen material, picture mode and calibration.
Dolby Vision
Dolby Vision uses dynamic metadata to describe how compatible HDR content should be displayed from scene to scene or frame to frame.
This can preserve more highlight detail and tonal variation than a fixed HDR presentation when the source, application and projector mode all support Dolby Vision.
The quality of the original master, streaming bitrate and room conditions remain important.
HDR10, HDR10+ and HLG
The PX3-Pro also supports HDR10, HDR10+ and Hybrid Log-Gamma.
HDR10+ provides dynamic metadata for compatible material, while HLG is commonly used for supported television and streaming content.
The projector adapts its picture processing according to the recognised format received from the connected source or integrated application.
IMAX Enhanced
IMAX Enhanced certification identifies compatibility with suitably mastered picture and audio material.
Compatible films and programmes can make use of the projector’s large image, wide colour range and HDR performance to create a more cinema-like presentation.
IMAX Enhanced requires compatible content and does not automatically apply to every film or streaming service.
Filmmaker Mode
Filmmaker Mode is designed to reduce unnecessary processing and preserve settings such as frame rate, aspect ratio and motion presentation.
This helps films appear closer to the way their creators intended rather than being given the unnaturally smooth appearance associated with strong motion interpolation.
Room brightness and personal preference should still determine the final picture setting.
Pro AI Picture Processing
Pro AI processing analyses the incoming picture and adjusts aspects such as brightness, contrast, colour and noise reduction.
This can help lower-quality broadcasts and compressed streams remain watchable on the PX3-Pro’s very large image.
Enthusiasts may prefer to reduce some automatic processing when watching high-quality film sources.
MEMC Motion Processing
MEMC processing can generate additional frames to make fast camera movement and sporting action appear smoother.
This can be useful for football, motorsport and other fast-moving material.
Some viewers prefer to disable or reduce motion interpolation for films because stronger settings can make cinematic material appear unnaturally like live video.
No 3D Playback
Hisense UK’s current specification lists 3D technology as unsupported.
The PX3-Pro should therefore not be purchased for playing Blu-ray 3D films or other stereoscopic 3D content.
Powered Focus
The PX3-Pro uses powered focus adjustment to sharpen the projected image.
Focus should be checked across the complete screen rather than judged solely from its centre.
A screen that is bowed, rippled or incorrectly mounted can prevent all areas of an ultra-short-throw image from appearing equally sharp.
Automatic Keystone Correction
Automatic keystone correction can help align the projected picture with the available screen area.
Digital geometric correction is convenient during setup but should not replace accurate physical positioning.
The strongest picture quality will normally be achieved when the projector, furniture and screen are mechanically aligned before processing is applied.
Use Geometric Correction Sparingly
Heavy digital correction reduces the active image area and can soften fine detail.
Position the projector accurately first, then use correction only for final adjustment.
No Optical Zoom or Lens Shift
The PX3-Pro does not provide conventional optical zoom or lens shift.
Image size is determined principally by the distance between the projector and screen, while vertical positioning depends on the furniture and screen height.
This makes accurate room and furniture planning more important than it would be with a conventional projector equipped with a zoom lens and optical lens shift.
Designed for Xbox
The PX3-Pro is promoted as an Xbox-certified projector with support for Auto Low Latency Mode.
A compatible console can automatically request a lower-latency picture mode when a game is launched.
Hisense UK specifies Game Mode input lag of no more than 30ms, depending on the signal and selected mode.
High-Refresh Gaming
The PX3-Pro supports 4K input at up to 60Hz and high-refresh gaming at lower resolutions.
Hisense promotes refresh rates of up to 240Hz with compatible Full HD sources.
The available resolution, refresh rate and latency depend on the source device, HDMI connection and projector settings.
240Hz Does Not Mean 4K at 240Hz
The highest quoted refresh rate applies to compatible lower-resolution gaming signals.
4K sources are supported at up to 60Hz rather than 240Hz.
VIDAA U7 Smart Platform
The integrated VIDAA U7 interface provides access to compatible streaming services without requiring a separate media player.
Hisense currently lists services including Freely, Netflix, YouTube, Prime Video and Disney+.
Application availability, subscriptions, supported resolutions and individual service features may change over time.
Confirm Essential Applications
Streaming providers can alter device support, picture formats and subscription requirements.
Confirm that any essential service is currently available before relying on the projector as the only source within the system.
Freely Support
Freely provides access to supported UK live and on-demand television through an internet connection without requiring a conventional aerial connection.
Availability depends on the current VIDAA software, postcode, broadcaster support and internet connection.
The PX3TUK-PRO itself does not contain a conventional digital television tuner.
AirPlay 2
AirPlay 2 allows compatible Apple devices and applications to send supported content to the projector through the home network.
Resolution and playback behaviour depend on the application, content protection, source device and network connection.
A stable wired or wireless network is required.
Screen and Content Sharing
The PX3-Pro supports screen sharing and compatible DMP or DMR content-sharing functions.
This can be useful for displaying photographs, supported videos and other media from compatible devices and network storage.
Protected streaming services may restrict mirroring and may need to be played through the projector’s own application or a connected HDMI source.
VIDAA Voice Control
VIDAA Voice allows compatible searches and navigation commands to be made using the projector’s remote control.
Available voice functions depend on the current software, language, application and region.
Solar-Powered Remote Control
The PX3-Pro is supplied with Hisense’s solar-powered remote control.
The remote can recharge using ambient light and can also be charged using a compatible USB-C connection.
This reduces dependence on disposable batteries during normal ownership.
50W Harman Kardon Sound System
The built-in Harman Kardon audio system combines two 15W channels with two additional 10W channels for a total quoted output of 50W.
This gives the PX3-Pro considerably more audio capability than a typical projector and allows it to operate without an immediate external sound system.
A dedicated soundbar, stereo system or surround speaker package will still provide greater channel separation, dialogue placement and bass extension.
Dolby Atmos
Dolby Atmos processing is supported by the projector’s internal audio system.
The built-in speakers can create a broader and more immersive presentation than conventional stereo, but they cannot physically reproduce the same channel separation as speakers positioned around and above the listening area.
A compatible AV receiver and speaker system will provide the most convincing Atmos experience.
User-Adjustable Equaliser
A user equaliser allows the tonal balance of the built-in sound system to be adjusted according to the room and programme material.
Positioning the projector close to walls or inside furniture can alter the perceived bass response, making adjustment useful.
Three HDMI Inputs
The PX3-Pro provides two HDMI 2.1 inputs and one HDMI 2.0 input.
This allows compatible games consoles, disc players, media streamers and other sources to remain connected simultaneously.
Hisense UK identifies the third HDMI connection as the ARC-enabled audio return connection.
Plan External Audio Connections Carefully
The current UK specification labels HDMI 3 as HDMI 2.0/ARC rather than eARC.
Confirm the required audio formats and connection method when matching the projector with a soundbar or AV receiver.
HDMI CEC
HDMI CEC allows compatible connected equipment to share basic control commands.
This may allow a single remote to control functions such as power, input selection and volume across compatible devices.
CEC behaviour can vary between manufacturers and may require activation within each product’s settings.
Optical Digital Audio Output
An optical S/PDIF output allows compatible digital audio to be sent to a soundbar, AV receiver, DAC or other suitable audio system.
Optical connections provide less audio bandwidth and fewer control functions than HDMI ARC.
The source and projector may need to be configured to output a format supported by the receiving equipment.
Headphone Output
A headphone output is provided for private listening or connection to compatible analogue audio equipment.
Reduce the volume before connecting headphones, then raise it gradually to a comfortable level.
Continued listening at excessive volume can damage hearing.
USB 2.0 and USB 3.0
One USB 2.0 connection and one USB 3.0 connection are provided for compatible storage devices and local media playback.
Compatibility depends on the storage format, power requirement, file container, codec and bitrate.
Important files should always be backed up before connecting storage to any media device.
Ethernet and Dual-Band Wi-Fi
An RJ45 Ethernet connection provides a wired network option for streaming and content sharing.
Dual-band Wi-Fi supports compatible 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks using IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac standards.
A wired network connection is generally preferable where practical, particularly for high-bitrate 4K streaming.
Bluetooth Connectivity
Bluetooth allows the projector to communicate with compatible wireless devices.
Available audio routing and supported profiles depend on the connected equipment and the projector’s current software.
Wireless audio can introduce additional delay compared with HDMI or optical connections.
Integrated Media Player
The built-in media player supports compatible video, music and picture files from USB or network storage.
Listed video codecs include VP9, MVC, VC1, MPEG2, MPEG4, H.264 and HEVC/H.265.
Supported audio formats include WMA, FLAC, MP3, AAC and WAV, while supported picture formats include GIF, PNG, BMP and JPEG.
Codec support does not guarantee that every file will play, particularly where unusual profiles, containers, bitrates or copy protection are used.
No Television Tuner
The PX3TUK-PRO does not contain a conventional digital or analogue television tuner.
Live television must be accessed through Freely, compatible streaming services or an external set-top box or receiver.
PVR recording and broadcast time-shift functions are not built into this console model.
No Ambient Light Sensor
Hisense UK’s current specification lists the ambient light sensor as unsupported.
Picture brightness and mode should therefore be selected manually according to the room and viewing conditions.
25,000-Hour Laser Rating
Hisense quotes more than 25,000 hours of entertainment from the projector’s laser light source.
This could represent many years of normal domestic use without requiring a conventional projector lamp replacement.
The light-source rating is an estimate rather than a guarantee that every projector component will operate for the same number of hours.
Eye-Friendly Reflected Light
The projected image is viewed after light has reflected from the screen rather than by looking directly at an illuminated television panel.
Hisense also promotes reduced harmful blue-light output and eye-protection features within the PX3-Pro design.
These features do not make it safe to stare directly into the projector lens.
Never Look Directly into the Laser Aperture
Do not look into the projection lens while the PX3-Pro is operating.
Children should be supervised around the projector, and the unit should be positioned where it cannot be pulled down, climbed on or knocked from its furniture.
Ultra-Short-Throw Screen Requirements
An ultra-short-throw projector sends light upwards towards the screen at a very shallow angle.
The screen must therefore be flat and suitable for this projection geometry. Ripples or surface irregularities can create visible distortion, focus problems and shadows.
A ceiling-light-rejecting or UST ambient-light-rejecting screen can improve daytime contrast by reflecting light from the projector towards the viewer while rejecting much of the light arriving from above.
Not Every ALR Screen Suits Ultra Short Throw
Screens designed for conventional long-throw projectors may reject light arriving from the steep upward angle used by the PX3-Pro.
Choose a screen specifically described as compatible with ultra-short-throw projection.
Furniture and Installation Height
The projector requires a rigid, level cabinet positioned beneath the screen.
The final furniture height must account for the vertical distance between the projector and the bottom of the projected image.
A cabinet that is too high can push the image above the available wall area, while an unstable or uneven surface can make alignment difficult.
Centre Speaker and Soundbar Placement
Because the PX3-Pro sits directly beneath the screen, the usual position for a centre speaker or soundbar may already be occupied.
The furniture, projector, screen and audio system should therefore be planned as a complete installation.
A speaker must not block the projection path or cover the projector’s ventilation openings.
Ventilation
The projector must be installed where air can circulate freely around its ventilation openings.
Do not cover the cabinet with cloth, paper or decorative objects, and do not enclose it tightly within furniture.
Restricted airflow can cause overheating, reduced brightness or premature component failure.
Substantial 9kg Console
The PX3-Pro measures approximately 550mm wide, 120mm high and 296mm deep.
Its net weight is approximately 9kg, so it requires stable furniture with sufficient depth and load capacity.
The projector should not be balanced on narrow shelving or positioned where cables can pull it towards the edge.
Black and Dark Grey Finish
The low-profile cabinet is finished in black and dark grey with front-facing Harman Kardon speakers.
Its appearance is designed for visible placement within a living room rather than concealment within a traditional projector installation.
