Audio T Verdict
The DALI RUBIKORE 8 are the largest floorstanding speakers in the RUBIKORE range, combining serious bass authority and large-room scale with an impressively open and detailed presentation.
Three 6½-inch Clarity Cone paper and wood-fibre drivers use DALI's Soft Magnetic Composite motor technology. Their staggered crossover arrangement allows the drivers to work together across the bass and midrange while reducing unwanted overlap and distortion.
High frequencies are handled by DALI's Hybrid Tweeter module, combining a low-loss 29mm soft dome with a 17 × 45mm planar element. This delivers wide horizontal dispersion, delicate detail and an extended response reaching 34kHz.
Continuous-Flare bass-reflex ports and the generously proportioned cabinet help the RUBIKORE 8 reach a specified 38Hz, while 90.5dB sensitivity and 112dB maximum output give them the headroom required for substantial listening spaces.
Handcrafted, assembled and tested in Denmark, the RUBIKORE 8 are designed for ambitious stereo and home cinema systems where effortless dynamics, controlled bass and refined musical detail are equally important.
DALI RUBIKORE 8 Floorstanding Speakers
The DALI RUBIKORE 8 are premium passive floorstanding speakers designed for high-performance stereo and home cinema systems in larger listening rooms.
Each cabinet contains three 6½-inch Clarity Cone SMC drivers, a 29mm soft-dome tweeter, a 17 × 45mm planar element and rear Continuous-Flare bass-reflex ports.
The speakers are supplied as a stereo pair and require a suitable external amplifier.
A Separate Amplifier Is Required
The RUBIKORE 8 are passive loudspeakers and cannot play music directly from a television, phone, turntable, streamer or computer.
- No built-in amplification
- No Bluetooth or Wi-Fi
- No network streaming services
- No HDMI or digital audio inputs
- No built-in phono stage
DALI recommends amplifier power between 40W and 250W. The amplifier should also be stable with the speakers' 4-ohm nominal impedance.
Range-Topping RUBIKORE Floorstander
The RUBIKORE 8 sit above the RUBIKORE 6 and are designed for listeners who require greater output, sensitivity and room-filling scale.
The three-driver arrangement increases the total radiating area while allowing DALI to control how each driver contributes through the bass and midrange.
The result is a loudspeaker capable of substantial low-frequency weight without sacrificing vocal clarity or instrumental separation.
2½ + ½ + ½-Way Design
DALI describes the crossover principle as 2½ + ½ + ½-way, with crossover points at 500Hz, 800Hz, 2,400Hz and 14,000Hz.
The three Clarity Cone drivers are filtered individually so that their output combines progressively through the bass and lower midrange.
The upper driver continues into the main midrange before handing over to the 29mm soft dome. The planar element then joins at the highest frequencies.
Three 6½-Inch Clarity Cone Drivers
Each RUBIKORE 8 uses three 6½-inch paper and wood-fibre drivers featuring DALI's Clarity Cone profile.
The cone geometry is designed to control unwanted resonances while retaining low mass, rigidity and natural damping.
The combined diaphragm area gives the speaker greater bass authority, dynamic headroom and large-room capability than the smaller RUBIKORE 6.
Soft Magnetic Composite Technology
DALI's Soft Magnetic Composite material is used within the driver motors to reduce eddy currents, magnetic hysteresis and variations in voice-coil behaviour.
Reducing these unwanted effects helps the drivers follow the amplifier signal more accurately, contributing to low distortion, cleaner midrange reproduction and controlled bass.
The technology is inspired by engineering developed for DALI's flagship KORE loudspeaker.
DALI Hybrid Tweeter Module
The Hybrid Tweeter module combines a 29mm soft-dome tweeter with a 17 × 45mm planar high-frequency element.
The soft dome provides the main treble output and integrates with the Clarity Cone driver at approximately 2,400Hz.
The planar element joins at 14,000Hz, extending the response while helping the speakers maintain broad horizontal dispersion.
Low-Loss 29mm Soft Dome
The newly developed soft dome uses a lightweight woven diaphragm and a ferrofluid-free, low-loss construction.
This helps it respond quickly to small signal changes while reproducing percussion, vocal detail and recorded ambience with clarity.
17 × 45mm Planar Tweeter
The planar element uses an extremely lightweight diaphragm to reproduce the highest frequencies.
Its broad horizontal radiation helps distribute treble detail across a wider seating area, while more controlled vertical dispersion reduces unnecessary interaction with the floor and ceiling.
SMC-KORE Crossover Inductors
The crossover uses DALI's SMC-KORE inductors alongside carefully selected components.
These are designed to reduce distortion and electrical losses as the incoming signal is divided between the five drive units.
The complex crossover allows each Clarity Cone driver and tweeter to operate within a carefully controlled frequency range.
Continuous-Flare Bass-Reflex Ports
The rear-facing Continuous-Flare ports change shape progressively along their length rather than relying on abrupt transitions.
This encourages smoother airflow and helps reduce turbulence, compression and audible port noise at higher listening levels.
The reflex system is tuned to 33Hz and contributes to the RUBIKORE 8's specified 38Hz lower frequency limit.
Extensively Braced Cabinet
The large cabinet uses extensive internal bracing to provide a rigid and inert platform for the drivers, crossover and reflex system.
Reducing cabinet vibration helps prevent the enclosure from adding unwanted colouration or softening bass definition.
Each speaker is handcrafted, assembled and tested at DALI's production facilities in Denmark.
DALI Wide Dispersion
The drivers and Hybrid Tweeter module are designed to produce broad and even room coverage rather than concentrating the sound into one narrow listening position.
This helps several listeners hear a balanced presentation and allows reflected sound within the room to retain a more natural tonal character.
Begin with the Speakers Facing Straight Ahead
DALI generally recommends positioning its loudspeakers broadly parallel with the wall behind them rather than angling them sharply towards the listener.
Small adjustments can still be tried to suit the room, speaker spacing and preferred stereo presentation.
Placement in Larger Rooms
DALI recommends positioning the RUBIKORE 8 between approximately 25cm and 180cm from the rear wall.
Moving the speakers closer to the wall generally increases perceived bass, while bringing them further into the room can improve low-frequency definition and soundstage depth.
The rear ports must remain clear of curtains, furniture and other obstructions.
At 30kg per speaker, final positioning should be planned carefully and completed by two people.
Premium Spike Set
DALI's Premium Spike Set is supplied for use on suitable carpeted floors.
Spikes can damage wood, laminate, tile and other hard surfaces, so appropriate protective floor cups should be used where required.
Protect Hard Flooring
Do not place exposed spikes directly onto delicate flooring. Make sure that both cabinets remain level and completely stable after positioning.
Bi-Wire and Bi-Amplifier Connections
Separate binding-post pairs are provided for the speaker's crossover sections.
For conventional single-wire operation, the supplied terminal links remain fitted. Bi-wiring uses separate cable runs from the same amplifier channel, while passive bi-amplification uses separate compatible amplifier channels.
Remove the Terminal Links Before Bi-Amplifying
The links must be removed before separate amplifier channels are connected. Leaving them fitted could connect the amplifier outputs together and cause equipment damage.
Amplifier Matching
The RUBIKORE 8 have a sensitivity of 90.5dB and a nominal impedance of 4 ohms.
The relatively high sensitivity helps them produce substantial output, but their three-driver system still benefits from an amplifier with dependable current delivery and clean headroom.
A well-matched amplifier will help maintain bass control, dynamic freedom and composure as the listening level increases.
