The Rotel T11 is a straightforward component tuner for listeners who still value live FM and DAB/DAB+ radio but want it properly integrated into a conventional hi-fi system.
Its dedicated design provides separate FM and DAB/DAB+ reception, RDS information from compatible FM broadcasts and storage for 30 FM plus 30 DAB/DAB+ presets. That makes frequently used stations easy to recall without searching through the complete station list every time.
The T11 also provides more reception control than a basic tabletop radio. FM scans can be restricted to stronger stations, while mono reception can help clean up weak or distant FM broadcasts. DAB facilities include full and local scanning, manual tuning, station ordering, Dynamic Range Control and pruning of unavailable services.
Its limitation is equally important. The T11 is a separate radio source, not a complete radio system. It has no internal amplifier, loudspeaker or headphone socket and connects to an existing amplifier using its stereo RCA analogue output.

Rotel T11 FM/DAB+ Tuner
The Rotel T11 is a dedicated stereo hi-fi tuner for receiving FM, DAB and DAB+ radio broadcasts. It connects to an existing amplifier or preamplifier through a conventional stereo RCA analogue output.
Its slim, full-width chassis matches other Rotel 14 Series components, while the supplied remote control, front-panel display and extensive station presets make it practical for everyday radio listening.
What Is a Separate Hi-Fi Tuner?
A tuner receives radio broadcasts and converts them into an audio signal for an amplifier. Unlike a portable radio or all-in-one music system, the T11 does not contain its own power amplifier or loudspeakers.
Its RCA output should be connected to a suitable line-level input labelled Tuner, AUX, Line or another available source name. The amplifier then controls the listening volume and drives the loudspeakers.
Amplifier and Speakers Required
The T11 cannot power passive loudspeakers directly. It must be used with a suitable hi-fi amplifier or preamplifier and power amplifier system.
FM Radio Reception
The T11 receives conventional analogue FM radio broadcasts and supports both manual tuning and automatic station scanning.
The scan menu can be set to find all available stations or concentrate on stations with stronger signals. This can reduce the number of weak or unusable results stored or displayed during setup.
When a station is broadcasting in stereo and the received signal is sufficiently strong, the T11 provides stereo FM playback. Rotel specifies an FM frequency response of 10Hz to 15kHz and a stereo separation of 40dB at 100Hz and 37dB at 1kHz.
FM Stereo and Mono Reception
The supplied remote allows FM reception to be switched from stereo to forced mono. Mono reception can provide a cleaner and more stable result when listening to a weak or distant station because it requires less signal strength than noise-free stereo.
This does not improve the strength of the broadcast itself, but it can reduce hiss and instability where the received FM signal is marginal.
RDS Radio Information
Radio Data System support allows compatible FM stations to transmit information alongside the audio signal. Depending on the broadcaster, the display can show radio text, the station name, programme type, date and time.
RDS information is controlled by the radio station and will only appear when the broadcaster transmits properly encoded data. The amount and accuracy of the displayed information can therefore vary between stations.
DAB and DAB+ Digital Radio
The T11 supports DAB and DAB+ services transmitted within Band III between 174 and 240MHz. After a station scan, available services are presented in a station list rather than requiring the listener to tune manually through individual frequencies.
DAB+ is the newer and more efficient form of terrestrial digital radio used by many UK broadcasters. The stations available will depend on the local transmitters, indoor reception conditions and aerial installation.
Rotel specifies a maximum DAB audio data rate of 224kbps, a frequency response of 20Hz to 20kHz and a tuner sensitivity of -80dBm.
DAB Scanning and Station Management
The DAB menu provides local and full scanning options, subject to regional availability. Manual tuning can also be used when checking or selecting a particular DAB multiplex.
Stations can be ordered alphabetically, by ensemble or by currently valid services. A prune function removes unavailable stations from both the station list and DAB preset list, which is useful after broadcasters or multiplexes change.
DAB Dynamic Range Control
DAB Dynamic Range Control can be set to high, low or off. When a broadcaster includes the necessary information, this function can reduce the difference between quieter and louder parts of a programme.
Its effect depends on the material being transmitted and the broadcaster’s implementation. Leaving it switched off preserves the transmitted dynamic range, while one of the active settings may be useful for quiet listening or noisier environments.
30 FM and 30 DAB Presets
The T11 can store up to 30 FM stations and a separate set of up to 30 DAB or DAB+ stations. This provides a total of up to 60 preset positions across the two radio formats.
Presets can be selected directly using the numbered remote-control buttons or browsed with the preset controls and front-panel tuning knob.
Stereo RCA Analogue Output
A fixed-level stereo RCA output connects the T11 to a compatible line input on an amplifier, receiver, preamplifier or processor. Rotel supplies a stereo audio cable for this connection.
Rotel specifies an output level of 1V for FM reception and 2.1V at 0dBFS for DAB. Listening volume is controlled by the connected amplifier rather than the tuner.
No Digital Audio Output
The T11 provides a stereo RCA analogue output only. It does not have optical or coaxial digital audio outputs for connection to an external DAC.
Shared FM and DAB Aerial Connection
A shared 75-ohm F-type aerial input is used for FM and DAB/DAB+ reception. An indoor aerial is supplied and should be repositioned to find the strongest available signal.
The best aerial location for FM may not always be identical to the best position for DAB. Reception can be affected by distance from the transmitter, surrounding buildings, local terrain, reinforced walls, electrical interference and the position of the equipment.
Where the supplied indoor aerial does not provide dependable reception, a properly installed external or loft aerial may be required. The appropriate aerial design will depend on the broadcasts that need to be received.
Check Reception Before Buying
The number and quality of available stations are determined by local broadcast coverage and the aerial installation, not by the tuner alone. Check FM and DAB coverage in the intended location or speak to Audio T if reception is uncertain.
Front-Panel Display
The front-panel display shows the selected radio format, frequency, station details, preset information and compatible broadcast data.
Display brightness and power-indicator brightness can be adjusted through the setup menu. A temporary display-dimmer control is also available directly from the remote.
Remote Control Included
The supplied RR-T98 remote provides power, FM and DAB selection, station tuning, direct preset access, memory storage, RDS information, mono selection and menu navigation.
The main station-selection controls are also available on the front panel, although some setup and display functions are accessed more conveniently from the remote.
RS232 System Control
A rear-panel RS232 connection allows the T11 to be integrated with a compatible automation or control system. It uses a standard straight DB-9 male-to-female cable.
RS232 installation and programming should be handled by a suitably experienced installer using the relevant Rotel control information.
No Internet Radio or Streaming
The T11 receives terrestrial FM and DAB/DAB+ broadcasts only. It does not connect to the internet and does not include Wi-Fi, Ethernet, Bluetooth, AirPlay, Spotify, Qobuz, TIDAL or internet radio services.
It also cannot play BBC Sounds catch-up programmes or on-demand podcasts. Those require a compatible computer, mobile device, smart television or network music streamer.
No AM Radio
The T11 does not include AM or medium-wave reception. Customers who need a particular AM-only station should confirm whether it is also available through FM, DAB, DAB+ or internet radio before purchasing.
System Matching and Placement
The T11 can be used with Rotel amplification or any other suitable amplifier providing an available stereo line-level input. Matching Rotel components are not required.
The tuner should be placed on a solid, level surface away from direct sunlight, excessive heat, moisture and vibration. Its aerial should also be kept away from equipment or cables that introduce interference where practical.
