The Rotel S14 is a genuine just-add-speakers music system, combining network streaming, digital and analogue source connections, an ESS DAC, preamplifier facilities and Class AB power amplification in one full-width component.
Its amplifier delivers 80 watts per channel into 8 ohms and up to 150 watts per channel into 4 ohms. That gives it more useful loudspeaker-driving ability than many compact streaming systems, while retaining the traditional Class AB architecture associated with Rotel’s integrated amplifiers.
The streaming specification has also improved since the S14 was introduced. Current software supports Spotify Connect with Spotify Lossless, Qobuz Connect, TIDAL Connect, AirPlay 2, Google Cast and Roon Ready playback. The Rotel app provides access to Qobuz, TIDAL, internet radio, podcasts and music stored on a USB flash drive.
Physical source connectivity includes optical, coaxial, PC-USB, Bluetooth and one RCA line-level input. Variable preamplifier and subwoofer outputs provide useful expansion options, while the front headphone socket supports private listening.
The main omissions are HDMI and a built-in phono stage. A television can still be connected through its optical output, while a turntable will require either its own line-level output or a separate phono stage. Provided those distinctions suit the intended system, the S14 offers an unusually complete combination of conventional Rotel amplification and modern streaming.
Rotel S14 Integrated Streaming Amplifier
The Rotel S14 combines a high-resolution network streamer, ESS digital-to-analogue converter, stereo preamplifier and Class AB power amplifier within a single chassis.
Connect it to a pair of suitable passive loudspeakers and a home network to create a complete streaming hi-fi system. Additional digital and analogue inputs allow compatible televisions, CD players, computers and other source components to share the same amplifier and speakers.
80W-Per-Channel Class AB Amplification
Rotel rates the S14 at 80 watts per channel into 8-ohm loudspeakers and a maximum of 150 watts per channel into 4 ohms. Its Class AB output stage is powered by an oversized toroidal transformer and high-current output transistors.
A damping factor of 400 indicates a low output impedance and provides useful electrical control over compatible loudspeaker drive units. The final result will still depend on speaker sensitivity, impedance behaviour, room size and preferred listening level.

Spotify Connect with Spotify Lossless
Spotify Connect allows the Spotify app on a phone, tablet or computer to select the S14 as the playback device. Music is then streamed to the amplifier across the network rather than being passed through the controlling device using Bluetooth.
Rotel added support for Spotify Lossless through a July 2026 software update. The S14 must be running the required current software, while the Spotify app and subscription must also support Lossless playback.
Qobuz Connect
Qobuz Connect allows the S14 to be selected directly from the native Qobuz app. Rotel specifies high-resolution Qobuz Connect playback at up to 24-bit/192kHz.
This provides access to the Qobuz interface, favourites, playlists and recommendations without switching to a separate controller app. A compatible Qobuz subscription, current S14 software and an internet connection are required.
TIDAL Connect
TIDAL Connect allows music to be selected from the TIDAL app and streamed directly to the S14. The phone or tablet acts as the controller rather than carrying the audio through its Bluetooth connection.
The S14 also retains support for MQA and MQA Studio files. The actual formats and resolutions available from TIDAL will depend on the service’s current catalogue, app and subscription options.
Roon Ready
The S14 is certified Roon Ready and can operate as a network endpoint within a Roon system. Once added through the Roon software, it can receive music from a Roon Core or Server elsewhere on the same network.
Roon can combine locally stored music and supported online services within a single library and control interface. A separate Roon subscription and suitable Roon server are required.
AirPlay 2 and Google Cast
Apple AirPlay 2 provides straightforward streaming from compatible iPhone, iPad and Mac devices. It can also allow the S14 to participate in a compatible AirPlay multi-room system.
Google Cast provides similar app-based streaming from compatible mobile devices and computers. Support within individual applications can vary, so the Cast symbol should be checked in the chosen music, radio or podcast app.
Rotel App, Internet Radio and Podcasts
The Rotel S14 app is available for compatible iOS and Android devices. It provides access to thousands of internet radio stations, podcasts, TIDAL, Qobuz and compatible music files stored on a connected USB flash drive.
Internet radio stations can be saved to preset positions for quicker access, although preset support may vary between streaming services.
Streaming Services Can Change
Streaming services, lossless tiers, available resolutions and app functionality are controlled partly by third-party providers. A subscription may be required, regional availability can vary and features may change through future service or software updates.
Ethernet and Dual-Band Wi-Fi
The S14 can connect to a home network using either its Ethernet socket or dual-band Wi-Fi. A wired Ethernet connection is worth considering where practical because it avoids reliance on local wireless signal strength.
Wi-Fi provides greater placement flexibility when running a network cable is inconvenient. The supplied Wi-Fi antennas must be fitted and the amplifier positioned where it can receive a stable signal.
Once connected to the internet, S14 software updates can be downloaded automatically. Keeping the amplifier online is important if newer streaming functions and reliability improvements are to be received.
ESS 32-Bit DAC
Digital conversion is handled by a premium 32-bit ESS DAC. It processes audio from the network-streaming platform, PC-USB connection, optical input, coaxial input, Bluetooth receiver and rear USB flash-drive connection.
The optical and coaxial inputs support stereo LPCM signals at up to 24-bit/192kHz. The PC-USB input supports PCM at up to 24-bit/384kHz and MQA or MQA Studio at up to 24-bit/384kHz.
Maximum Resolution Depends on the Input
The DAC’s 32-bit architecture does not mean every source plays at that resolution. Optical and coaxial inputs are limited to 24-bit/192kHz, while the PC-USB connection supports PCM at up to 24-bit/384kHz. Streaming resolution depends on the service, subscription, recording and connection method.
PC-USB for Computer Audio
A rear USB-B input allows a Windows PC or Mac to use the S14 as an external USB audio device. This supports PCM sampling rates from 44.1kHz to 384kHz at 16 or 24-bit resolution.
Mac computers do not require an additional driver for USB Audio Class 2.0 operation. A compatible Rotel driver must be installed when using USB Audio Class 2.0 with Windows.
The computer’s operating system and playback software must also be configured for the required output format and sampling rate.
Optical and Coaxial Digital Inputs
One optical and one coaxial digital input allow compatible source components to use the S14’s internal ESS DAC. Both inputs accept stereo LPCM signals at up to 24-bit/192kHz.
The optical input may be used with a television that provides a compatible optical output, but the television must normally be configured to send two-channel PCM rather than Dolby Digital, DTS or another multichannel format.
aptX HD and AAC Bluetooth
Bluetooth provides a quick way to play music from a phone, tablet or computer without first connecting the device to the home network.
The S14 supports conventional Bluetooth audio together with AAC and aptX HD. The codec actually used will depend on the transmitting device. Bluetooth is convenient, but the network-streaming options are preferable when the highest available quality and uninterrupted app control are priorities.
USB Flash-Drive Playback
The rear USB-A connection can play music from a flash drive with a maximum supported capacity of 32GB. The current owner’s manual lists MP3, AAC in an MP4 container, FLAC, WAV and OGG file compatibility.
Music files should be stored in the root folder of the drive. Playback can be set to sequential or random order, and compatible file metadata and artwork can be shown through the updated software and control interface.
RCA Analogue Input
One stereo RCA line-level input is provided for a CD player, tuner, cassette deck or another source with a conventional analogue output.
Because only one analogue source input is available, customers planning to connect several analogue components should discuss their requirements with Audio T before choosing the amplifier.
No Built-In Phono Stage
The RCA AUX input is line level and cannot accept the low-level cartridge signal from a conventional turntable directly. A turntable with a built-in phono stage or a separate phono stage is required.
No HDMI Connection
The S14 does not provide HDMI ARC or HDMI eARC. A compatible television can instead be connected using its optical digital output, subject to the television providing a two-channel PCM signal.
Customers who specifically require HDMI control, automatic television switching or HDMI eARC should consider a streaming amplifier designed with that connection.
Variable Preamplifier Output
A stereo RCA preamplifier output carries the currently selected source and follows the S14’s volume, balance and tone settings.
It can be used with a suitable external power amplifier if a different power stage or additional output capability is required. Audio T can advise on compatible power amplifiers and the correct connection method.
Active Subwoofer Output
A mono subwoofer output allows a compatible active subwoofer to be added. The S14 combines the left and right channels into a single mono signal for this connection.

Headphone Output
The front-panel 3.5mm headphone socket supports private listening. Connecting headphones automatically mutes the loudspeaker terminals, preamplifier output and subwoofer output.
Volume should be reduced before headphones are connected or removed because headphone sensitivity can vary considerably.
Colour Display and Remote Control
The front colour display can show album artwork, artist, track and title information during compatible network or USB playback. It is also used for source selection and amplifier configuration.
A conventional infrared remote control is included, allowing volume, mute, source selection, playback, presets and setup functions to be controlled without relying entirely on a phone or tablet.
Tone, Balance and Volume Settings
Bass and treble can each be adjusted through a range of ±10dB, while the balance control provides left-to-right adjustment. The display and power-indicator brightness can also be changed.
A power-on maximum-volume setting helps prevent the amplifier from starting at an unexpectedly high level. Automatic power-off can be configured for periods between 20 minutes and 12 hours or disabled.
Speaker Matching and Setup
The S14’s output makes it suitable for a broad selection of standmount and floorstanding loudspeakers, but published wattage alone does not guarantee a suitable match. Speaker impedance, sensitivity, room size, listening distance and preferred volume all need to be considered together.
The amplifier requires at least 10cm of unobstructed clearance around its enclosure. It should be placed on a stable support with adequate ventilation rather than enclosed tightly inside furniture.
