The Harbeth Nelson is an unusually clever solution to one of the inevitable compromises of a miniature monitor: there simply is not enough cabinet volume to reproduce genuinely deep bass at useful levels.
Rather than adding a conventional subwoofer somewhere else in the room, Harbeth has incorporated an active bass system directly into a pair of purpose-designed speaker stands. The footprint required by the host speakers remains essentially unchanged, but their usable low-frequency range can be extended substantially.
Each Nelson contains its own Harbeth-made 110mm bass driver in a bandpass enclosure, 50W RMS amplification and dedicated Digital Signal Processing.
