Audio T Verdict
The WiiM Voice Remote provides straightforward physical control for compatible WiiM streamers and streaming amplifiers without requiring a phone or tablet for every adjustment.
Bluetooth operation means it does not require a direct line of sight, while playback controls, source selection, preset buttons and Alexa push-to-talk commands cover the functions most customers use regularly.
This is the original AAA-powered WiiM Voice Remote rather than the newer rechargeable Voice Remote 2. It is a useful replacement or addition, but customers should check the compatibility list and note that batteries are not supplied.
WiiM Voice Remote
The WiiM Voice Remote is a Bluetooth Low Energy remote control for selected WiiM network music streamers and streaming amplifiers.
It provides standby, volume, mute, playback, track-skipping and source-selection controls, together with four preset buttons and a microphone for Alexa push-to-talk voice commands.
Pairing and configuration are completed through the WiiM Home app on a compatible phone or tablet.
Bluetooth Control Without Line of Sight
The remote communicates with the paired WiiM product through Bluetooth Low Energy 5.0 rather than a conventional infrared transmitter.
This means it does not need to be pointed directly at the streamer or amplifier. A compatible WiiM product can therefore remain on a shelf, behind the listening position or inside suitable furniture while still responding to the remote.
WiiM specifies a maximum button-command range of approximately 15 metres and a maximum voice-command range of approximately 9 metres. Walls, furniture, other wireless equipment and the surrounding environment can reduce the practical range.
Playback and Volume Controls
Dedicated controls provide quick access to the functions most frequently used during everyday listening.
- Standby
- Volume up and volume down
- Mute and unmute
- Play and pause
- Previous track
- Next track
- Input-source selection
- Alexa push-to-talk voice control
- Four physical preset buttons
The available input sources depend on the connected WiiM product. These may include network streaming, Bluetooth, television audio, optical digital or line-level analogue inputs.
Preset Shortcuts
The four numbered buttons correspond to presets configured within the WiiM Home app.
A single press recalls presets 1 to 4. With current compatible firmware, a quick double press can recall presets 5 to 8, so the four physical buttons can provide access to eight stored selections.
Presets can provide quick access to compatible radio stations, playlists, podcasts, music services or device functions supported by the paired WiiM product.
Alexa Push-to-Talk Voice Control
Pressing and holding the voice-control button activates the remote's microphone so a supported Alexa command can be spoken directly into the remote.
An additional Amazon Echo or other Alexa speaker is not required, but the paired WiiM device must be linked to an Amazon Alexa account through the WiiM Home app.
Compatible commands can be used to control playback, change volume or request supported music and radio services. Music-service availability depends on Alexa support, the customer's account and their region.
Alexa Is the Only Supported Voice Assistant
The WiiM Voice Remote does not provide Siri or Google Assistant voice control. Its microphone is used for push-to-talk Alexa commands after the required account has been configured.
Compatible WiiM Products
WiiM currently lists the original Voice Remote as compatible with the following network music streamers and streaming amplifiers.
Compatible WiiM Streamers
Compatible WiiM Amplifiers
Check Compatibility Before Ordering
The WiiM Voice Remote is not a universal infrared remote. It is designed for the compatible WiiM products listed above and will not control a television, soundbar, conventional amplifier or non-WiiM product directly.
Pairing Through the WiiM Home App
The remote must be paired with the intended WiiM streamer or amplifier before it can be used.
Enter Pairing Mode
- Insert two AAA batteries
- Press and hold Source and Mute together
- Hold both buttons for approximately two seconds
- Release the buttons to enter pairing mode
Complete Pairing
- Open the WiiM Home app
- Select the intended WiiM device
- Open Device Settings
- Select Remote
- Choose Pair Your Remote
- Follow the instructions displayed in the app
The Original Voice Remote Has No Status Light
The opening above the microphone button is the microphone port, not an LED indicator. Pairing status is shown within the WiiM Home app.
If the app cannot detect the remote, remove and reinsert the batteries before repeating the pairing process.
Using the Remote with a WiiM Multiroom Group
A single remote can be used to adjust the volume of a grouped WiiM system when it is paired with the lead device in that group.
Group-volume commands apply to the complete group, while other remote functions control the lead WiiM device. The lead device appears first within the group shown in the WiiM Home app.
AAA Battery Power
The original WiiM Voice Remote requires two AAA batteries.
Batteries Are Not Included
Two AAA batteries must be purchased separately before the remote can be paired or used.
