Cyrus TTP Turntable with Tonearm

Cyrus TTP Turntable with Tonearm

Audio T Verdict

The Cyrus TTP takes a high-mass approach to record playback, combining a solid aluminium plinth and platter with electronic speed control and a carefully selected tonearm.

Its substantial construction provides a stable foundation for the cartridge, while the digitally controlled motor and high-precision bearing are designed to keep rotational speed consistent and unwanted mechanical noise low.

A cartridge is deliberately left to the customer and dealer to choose, allowing the TTP to be matched properly to the phono stage and wider system. PSX-R2 compatibility also provides a clear upgrade route for committed Cyrus vinyl systems.

Cyrus TTP Turntable

The Cyrus TTP is a high-performance belt-drive turntable with a solid aluminium chassis, aluminium platter, factory-fitted tonearm and electronically controlled motor.

It plays records at 33? and 45 rpm, with speed selected using dedicated controls on the front of the plinth rather than by manually moving the drive belt.

The TTP is supplied without a cartridge, allowing Audio T to recommend and install a suitable moving magnet or moving coil model for the tonearm, phono stage and complete system.

Cartridge and Dust Cover Not Included

The Cyrus TTP includes its tonearm but is supplied without a cartridge.

A custom clear acrylic dust cover is available separately through Cyrus dealers. It is not supplied as standard with the turntable.

Solid Aluminium Construction

The TTP plinth is precision machined from a single billet of aluminium rather than assembled from conventional timber-based panels.

Its aluminium platter and substantial chassis give the turntable considerable mass, creating a stable mechanical foundation for the bearing, motor and tonearm.

This approach is intended to reduce the influence of external vibration and unwanted movement while the cartridge traces the record groove.

High-Precision Main Bearing

The platter is supported by a hardened steel axle rotating within a high-precision bearing fitted directly into the aluminium plinth.

Integrated lubrication reduces friction between the moving surfaces and helps the platter rotate smoothly and consistently.

The bearing is lubricated at the factory. Cyrus includes replacement bearing oil for future maintenance, but routine lubrication should not be necessary during normal ownership.

Digitally Controlled Motor

A DC synchronous motor drives the platter through a belt.

Cyrus uses a custom digital control circuit to regulate the motor and maintain accurate rotational speed. Stable motor control is essential because changes in platter speed alter musical pitch and timing.

The platter may take a few moments to reach its selected speed because of its substantial weight. Once running, the motor-control system is designed to maintain consistent rotation with very low wow and flutter.

Electronic 33? and 45 rpm Selection

Separate front-panel buttons select 33? or 45 rpm electronically.

This avoids the need to remove the platter or reposition the belt when changing between standard albums, singles and other compatible records.

Select the required speed and allow the platter to stabilise before lowering the stylus into the record groove.

Factory-Fitted Tonearm

The supplied tonearm uses carefully distributed mass to reduce concentrated points of resonance.

Its horizontal and vertical bearing assemblies are designed for very low friction, allowing the cartridge to follow small changes in the record groove without unnecessary resistance.

Tracking force and anti-skating can be adjusted to suit the requirements of the selected cartridge.

Choose the Right Cartridge

Supplying the TTP without a cartridge allows the record player to be tailored to the listener rather than limiting it to one factory-selected option.

Cartridge choice should take account of the tonearm, musical preferences, phono-stage compatibility and available budget.

Moving Magnet Cartridges

  • Generally provide a higher output level
  • Work with a suitable MM phono input
  • Can connect to many Cyrus integrated amplifiers
  • Offer straightforward cartridge replacement options

Moving Coil Cartridges

  • Usually provide a lower output level
  • Require a suitable MC phono stage
  • Need correctly matched gain and loading
  • Should be selected with the wider system in mind

Phono Stage Matching

A turntable cartridge produces a much smaller signal than a conventional CD player, streamer or DAC. The TTP therefore requires a suitable phono stage before it can be connected to a normal amplifier line input.

The Cyrus 40 PPA provides adjustable moving magnet and moving coil compatibility and can store separate settings for several cartridges or turntables.

The TTP can also be used with phono stages and amplifiers from other manufacturers, provided the selected cartridge type, output voltage and loading requirements are supported.

Optional Cyrus Classic PSX-R2 Upgrade

The Cyrus Classic PSX-R2 connects to the dedicated upgrade socket on the rear of the turntable.

Power from the PSX-R2 is routed to the motor-drive stage, providing it with a separate, highly regulated power supply.

The turntable automatically detects the external supply. Both the standard TTP power supply and the PSX-R2 must remain connected to mains power when the upgrade is used.

Adjustable and Replaceable Feet

The TTP is supported by three adjustable feet that allow the chassis to be levelled accurately.

A level turntable helps the bearing, platter and tonearm operate as intended and prevents tracking force from being influenced by a sloping support.

Position the TTP on a rigid equipment rack or wall shelf capable of supporting its substantial weight. Avoid unstable furniture, springy floors and positions immediately beside loudspeakers.

Optional Acrylic Dust Cover

Cyrus offers a custom clear acrylic cover designed specifically for the dimensions of the TTP.

The cover has welded seams, side hand-holds, an etched Cyrus logo and rear openings for the tonearm and power cables.

It is a lift-off design rather than a hinged lid and is available separately through participating Cyrus dealers.

Setup and Cartridge Installation

The platter, belt, platter mat and counterweight require installation before the turntable is used.

Cartridge alignment, tracking force and anti-skating must then be set according to the cartridge manufacturer’s recommendations. Cyrus supplies an alignment template to assist with installation.

Accurate setup is essential for balanced channel output, secure tracking and reduced record wear. Audio T can fit and align a suitable cartridge before delivery or collection.
