IsoTek V5 Polaris Six-Way Mains Power-Cleaning System

Audio T Verdict

The IsoTek V5 Polaris provides six-way mains distribution, power cleaning and equipment protection within a compact bar that can sit discreetly behind an equipment rack.

Each outlet connects independently to the central circuit rather than being linked to the next socket in a conventional daisy chain. This is designed to reduce electrical noise passing between the components connected to the Polaris.

The UK version supports a combined load of up to 10A or 2,300W, making it suitable for many complete hi-fi, television and home cinema systems. Particularly demanding amplifiers, active speakers and subwoofers may be better matched with IsoTek’s higher-capacity V5 Sirius.

IsoTek specifies up to 35dB of RFI reduction, together with 45,000A of surge protection, a star-earthed internal layout and silver-plated high-purity copper wiring.

An EVO3 Initium power cable and wall-mounting bracket are included, making Polaris an accessible introduction to IsoTek’s V5 power-cleaning range.

IsoTek V5 Polaris Six-Way Mains Power-Cleaning System

The V5 Polaris is a compact mains power-cleaning and distribution bar for audio, home cinema and network-based systems.

It provides six UK mains outlets, with each socket connected independently to the central filtering circuit. This arrangement is designed to reduce incoming mains noise and limit electrical interference passing from one connected product into another.

Compared with the previous generation, IsoTek states that V5 Polaris offers substantially increased Differential Mode filtering, reduced electrical resistance and upgraded surge protection.

Six Independently Connected Outlets

Many conventional extension blocks connect their sockets in a simple sequence. While this distributes electricity, it can allow electrical noise created by one component to travel more easily into neighbouring equipment.

Each Polaris socket instead references the central power-cleaning circuit independently.

This layout is designed to reduce Differential Mode cross-contamination between the connected products and provide a consistent electrical path to each outlet.

Suitable for a Complete System

The six-outlet arrangement provides enough connections for many complete audio and home cinema systems.

A typical installation might include a network streamer, DAC, CD player, turntable power supply, integrated amplifier and television or powered subwoofer.

The complete system must remain within the shared 10A or 2,300W UK rating.

Typical Connected Equipment

  • Network streamers and music servers
  • CD and SACD players
  • DACs and digital processors
  • Preamplifiers and phono stages
  • Turntable power supplies
  • Integrated amplifiers
  • Televisions and projectors
  • Routers and network switches

10A or 2,300W Total Capacity

The UK V5 Polaris is rated at a maximum of 10A or 2,300W at 230V.

This capacity is shared across all six outlets and any equipment added through System Link. It is not available independently from every socket.

Add together the published mains consumption of all connected equipment before installation.

Check the Complete System Load

Use the mains consumption shown on the equipment, rear panel or manufacturer’s specification.

Do not calculate the electrical load using an amplifier’s quoted watts-per-channel output.

Using Polaris with an Amplifier

V5 Polaris can be used with many compatible integrated amplifiers and power amplifiers, provided the complete system remains within its 10A rating.

Its circuit is designed to maintain low resistance at the 50Hz mains frequency while presenting greater impedance to unwanted noise at higher frequencies.

Large power amplifiers, mono power amplifiers, active speakers and powerful subwoofers may require the greater current capacity of the 16A V5 Sirius.

Common Mode Mains Noise

Common Mode noise appears in relation to earth and frequently includes radio-frequency interference from wireless communications and nearby electrical equipment.

Routers, computers, televisions, chargers, smart devices and switch-mode power supplies all contribute to the electrical environment within a modern home.

The Polaris filtering circuit is designed to reduce this unwanted high-frequency energy before it reaches the connected system.

Differential Mode Mains Noise

Differential Mode noise appears between live and neutral and can be generated by the equipment connected to the power bar.

Digital sources, televisions and switch-mode power supplies may return electrical noise to the mains circuit even where the incoming household supply is relatively clean.

The independently connected outlet arrangement helps reduce the extent to which this interference passes between components.

Delta Filter Topology

V5 Polaris uses IsoTek’s delta filter topology to reduce electrical interference over a broad frequency range.

IsoTek publishes more than 20dB of power cleaning at 1kHz and approximately 42dB at 10kHz under its stated reference conditions.

The actual result will depend on the incoming supply, connected components, source impedance and frequency of the interference.

35dB Published RFI Reduction

IsoTek specifies overall radio-frequency interference reduction of up to 35dB for the V5 Polaris.

This provides a useful comparison with other IsoTek power products, while the level of reduction within an individual system will vary across different frequencies.

Polaris is a passive mains cleaner rather than a voltage regulator or power regenerator.

Reduced Component Cross-Contamination

Electrical noise can enter the system from the household mains supply, but it can also be produced by the connected equipment.

A digital source or network switch may return high-frequency switching noise to the circuit, while an amplifier creates a changing electrical load during operation.

Connecting every socket independently to the central filter is designed to reduce unwanted interaction between these products.

KERP Equal-Resistance Distribution

KERP stands for Kirchhoff’s Equal Resistance Path.

IsoTek uses this architecture to provide each outlet with a consistent electrical route to the central circuit rather than connecting the sockets one after another.

This helps maintain equal resistance and consistent power delivery across the six outlets.

Fully Star-Earthed Network

The protective-earth connections reference a central point within the Polaris.

This star-earth arrangement provides a common earth reference for the six connected products and can be retained when another compatible IsoTek product is added using System Link.

V5 Polaris must be connected to a correctly installed mains socket with a functioning protective-earth connection.

Silver-Plated Circuit Board

The central printed circuit board uses increased copper loading compared with a conventional low-cost extension block.

Its conductive paths are silver plated as part of IsoTek’s approach to maintaining low resistance and consistent current delivery.

All six outlets connect independently to this central circuit board.

Silver-Plated 6N Copper Wiring

The internal wiring uses a 2mm² multi-strand conductor design made from 6N oxygen-free copper.

IsoTek describes 6N copper as 99.9999% pure, with each strand silver plated to provide a highly conductive outer surface.

The multi-strand construction supports the Polaris’ current capacity while remaining suitable for its compact internal layout.

FEP Dielectric

The internal conductors are insulated using Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene, normally abbreviated to FEP.

FEP provides durable electrical insulation with a relatively low dielectric constant compared with materials used in many ordinary power products.

Similar materials are used within several IsoTek power cables, helping maintain a consistent approach through the mains connection.

45,000A Surge Protection

V5 Polaris includes IsoTek’s sequential and repeatable surge-protection network, with an instantaneous rating of 45,000A.

The protection is designed to respond progressively according to the scale of an incoming surge or voltage spike.

This can help protect the Polaris and suitably connected equipment, although no protection system can guarantee survival from every electrical event or a direct lightning strike.

Protection Has Practical Limits

Disconnect sensitive equipment during severe electrical storms where it is practical and safe to do so.

Surge protection should not be treated as an absolute guarantee against lightning or a serious fault within the household supply.

10A HRC Protection

The UK V5 Polaris uses 10A high-rupturing-capacity protection to establish its maximum current rating and protect against overload conditions.

If the protection operates, switch off and disconnect the connected equipment before checking the combined load and investigating any possible fault.

Never increase the fuse or protection rating in an attempt to support a larger system.

System Link Expansion

A System Link outlet allows another compatible IsoTek product to be connected without occupying a second wall socket.

The linked products retain a common star-earth reference, helping maintain a structured mains arrangement as the system grows.

System Link cables are available in several IsoTek cable ranges and must be selected to match the connection used by the additional product.

System Link Does Not Increase Capacity

Adding another IsoTek product does not increase the 10A or 2,300W available from the electrical supply.

The total load of the Polaris, linked unit and every connected component must remain within the ratings of the complete circuit.

EVO3 Initium Power Cable Included

V5 Polaris is supplied with a 1.5m IsoTek EVO3 Initium power cable.

Initium uses three 2.0mm² high-purity oxygen-free copper conductors and connects to the Polaris through its IEC C14 inlet.

The cable should reach the wall socket without tension, sharp bends or a tightly wound coil of unused cable.

Power-Cable Upgrade Options

The supplied Initium cable can be replaced with a compatible higher-performance IsoTek cable using the correct IEC C13 equipment connector.

Possible upgrades include EVO3 Premier and the shielded EVO3 Sequel.

The replacement cable must retain a correctly fused UK plug and sufficient electrical rating for the connected system.

Compact Installation

V5 Polaris measures 80mm wide, 50mm high and 510mm long.

Its narrow aluminium enclosure can sit behind an equipment rack, alongside furniture or on the floor where its sockets and mains inlet remain accessible.

The unit weighs approximately 1kg before the connected power cables are added.

Wall-Mounting Bracket Included

A wall-mounting bracket system is included for installations where the Polaris needs to be secured behind an equipment rack or suitable furniture.

The mounting surface and fixings must support the unit as well as the mechanical pull created by the connected plugs and cables.

Keep the mains inlet, protection and output sockets accessible for inspection and safe disconnection.

A Power Cleaner, Not a Regenerator

V5 Polaris passively filters and distributes the incoming mains supply.

It does not create a new mains waveform, stabilise the incoming voltage or provide the regeneration functions found in IsoTek’s Genesis products.

Its role is to reduce mains noise, limit cross-contamination and provide protected distribution for compatible equipment.

DC Blocking Is Not Included

Polaris does not remove direct-current offset from the incoming AC supply.

Where an amplifier or other component produces persistent transformer hum or mechanical vibration caused by DC contamination, a compatible IsoTek V5 Syncro Uni 10 may be placed ahead of the Polaris.

The complete system must remain within the capacity of both products.

What Might You Hear?

Reducing mains noise and electrical interaction between connected products may help a suitably revealing system reproduce low-level musical information more clearly.

Depending on the system and incoming supply, possible improvements can include cleaner bass definition, clearer separation, a quieter perceived background and more stable stereo imaging.

The scale of any change will depend on the mains supply, connected equipment and existing power arrangement. Our Audio T Swansea team explored the results in a real-world system in its IsoTek V5 Polaris and Syncro review.
