PMC Prodigy5 Magnetic Speaker Grilles (Pair)

PMC Prodigy5 Magnetic Speaker Grilles (Pair)

Audio T Verdict

These optional PMC grilles give the Prodigy5 floorstanding speakers a more discreet, living-room-friendly appearance while providing a useful barrier in front of the exposed drive units.

They are designed specifically for the Prodigy5 cabinet and attach using concealed magnets, so no tools, screws or permanent modifications are required.

The pack contains two matching grilles, providing one for each speaker in a standard stereo pair.

PMC Prodigy5 Magnetic Speaker Grilles

These optional cloth grilles are designed specifically for the PMC Prodigy5 Floorstanding Speakers.

The Prodigy5 is supplied with its 133mm natural-fibre driver and 27mm soft-dome tweeter visible. Adding the grilles conceals the drive units and gives the slim floorstanding cabinets a more understated appearance.

Supplied as a Pair

One pack contains:

  • One grille for the left Prodigy5 speaker
  • One grille for the right Prodigy5 speaker

Only one pack is required for a standard stereo pair of Prodigy5 speakers.

Prodigy5 Speakers Are Not Included

This product contains the optional grille pair only. The PMC Prodigy5 loudspeakers are sold separately.

Model-Specific Compatibility

The grille shape, dimensions and magnetic fixing points are designed around the Prodigy5 floorstanding cabinet.

These grilles are not suitable for:

  • PMC Prodigy1 standmount speakers
  • PMC Prophecy speakers
  • PMC twenty5 or twenty5i speakers
  • Other floorstanding speaker models

The smaller Prodigy1 uses its own PMC Prodigy1 Magnetic Speaker Grilles.

Simple Magnetic Attachment

Concealed magnets secure each grille to the front of its corresponding speaker.

To fit a grille:

  1. Hold it carefully by the outer frame.
  2. Align it with the front of the Prodigy5 cabinet.
  3. Move it gently towards the speaker until the magnets locate it.
  4. Check that the grille is sitting evenly and securely.

To remove the grille, hold its outer edges and pull it gently away from the cabinet.

Handle the Outer Frame

Avoid pressing against the cloth or pushing the grille towards the speaker drivers. Always fit and remove it using the outer frame.

A More Discreet Appearance

The Prodigy5 has a deliberately simple and purposeful design. Fitting the optional grilles further reduces the visual prominence of the tweeter and midrange and bass driver.

This may be preferable where:

  • The speakers are installed in a shared living room
  • A cleaner, more understated appearance is wanted
  • The exposed drive units do not suit the surrounding furniture
  • The speakers are positioned close to a busy part of the room

Light Driver Protection

The cloth grilles provide a useful first barrier against light accidental contact and curious fingers.

They may be particularly helpful in family rooms or other shared spaces, but they should not be treated as rigid protective covers.

Not Impact-Proof

The grilles cannot prevent damage caused by strong impacts, sharp objects, liquids, pets or heavy pressure.

The Prodigy5 speakers should still be positioned securely and away from areas where they may be knocked over.

Effect on Speaker Depth

The standard Prodigy5 cabinet measures approximately 237mm deep. Fitting the optional grille adds approximately 10mm.

Without Grille

  • Approximate cabinet depth: 237mm
  • Drive units remain visible
  • Original open-front appearance

With Grille

  • Approximate overall depth: 247mm
  • Drive units are concealed
  • More discreet appearance

This additional depth should be considered where space around the front of the speakers is limited.

Listening With the Grilles Fitted

The grilles can remain fitted during everyday listening and can be removed whenever the exposed-driver appearance is preferred.

Room acoustics, positioning and personal preference vary, so compare the speakers with the grilles fitted and removed before deciding which arrangement you prefer for more focused listening.

Cleaning and Care

For normal care:

  • Remove the grilles from the speakers before cleaning
  • Hold each grille by its outer frame
  • Use a clean, dry and soft brush to remove light dust
  • Keep the fabric away from liquids and cleaning sprays
  • Do not press or stretch the cloth
  • Store removed grilles flat and away from sharp objects

Do not use furniture polish, solvents or wet cleaning products on the grille material.
