The Spendor DC1 is a passive 2.5-way centre-channel speaker designed for high-performance home cinema and multichannel music systems.
It combines an 18cm EP77 polymer bass and midrange driver, an 18cm Kevlar composite bass driver and Spendor’s 22mm LPZ tweeter within a rigid sealed enclosure.
The DC1 is supplied individually and is designed and manufactured in the UK.
An AV Amplifier Is Required
The DC1 is a passive speaker and must be connected to the centre-channel output of a suitable AV receiver or multichannel power amplifier.

Purpose-Designed 2.5-Way Configuration
The DC1 uses two different 18cm drivers rather than asking one unit to reproduce the complete bass and midrange spectrum.

Crossover points at 900Hz and 3.7kHz integrate both drivers with the centrally positioned LPZ tweeter, creating a coherent presentation across the front soundstage.

Sealed, Dynamically Damped Cabinet
The DC1 uses a rigid asymmetric cabinet with proprietary dynamic damping and no bass-reflex port.
The sealed design produces taut, controlled bass and allows the speaker to operate close to a wall without a rear port becoming obstructed.
Its typical in-room response extends down to 42Hz, giving the DC1 enough weight to integrate convincingly with the larger D-Line floorstanding speakers.
Allow Space Around the Cabinet
Although there is no reflex port to obstruct, the DC1 still requires a strong, stable surface and adequate space around the cabinet.
Leave room behind the recessed terminals for speaker cable and avoid enclosing the speaker tightly within poorly ventilated furniture.
Centre-Speaker Positioning
Position the DC1 centrally beneath or above the screen, with its front edge close to the front of the supporting shelf or cabinet.
Where possible, Spendor recommends placing the centre speaker at the same height as the front left and right speakers.
Where this is impractical, keep it within approximately 0.5 metres above or below the acoustic centre of the left and right speakers to maintain consistent tonality across the front soundstage.
Check the Supporting Furniture
The DC1 weighs 15kg and measures 650mm wide. The supporting shelf or cabinet must safely accommodate its complete footprint and weight.
Do not position the speaker where it obstructs the television’s ventilation, remote-control receiver or screen.
AV Receiver Setup and Bass Management
Run the AV receiver’s room-correction and level-calibration system after the DC1 has been placed in its final position.
The appropriate crossover setting will depend on the room, subwoofer and other speakers. An 80Hz crossover is a common starting point, but the measured result may suggest a different setting.
Using a capable active subwoofer for the lowest frequencies can increase headroom and help the DC1 remain clean and composed during demanding soundtracks.
