Audio T Verdict
The Linn Majik LP12 with Koil cartridge is the moving coil version of Linn's entry point into the Sondek LP12 range.
Its Karousel bearing, Majik aluminium sub-chassis, Krane tonearm and Koil moving coil cartridge provide a carefully matched starting specification, while the modular LP12 construction leaves a clear route for future upgrades.
This version requires a suitable moving coil phono stage. Audio T can demonstrate the turntable, match it to the correct phono amplification and professionally assemble and install it within your system.

Moving Coil Phono Stage Required
The Linn Koil is a low-output moving coil cartridge producing approximately 0.4 mV. It cannot be connected to a conventional moving magnet phono input.
A suitable MC phono stage, or an amplifier with a compatible moving coil input, is required. Linn specifies a nominal load resistance of 100 O.

Karousel Single-Point Bearing
The current Majik LP12 includes Linn's
Karousel bearing
as standard.
The main bearing supports the complete rotating mass of the inner and outer platters and establishes the mechanical reference around which the turntable operates.
Karousel uses a stainless-steel bearing housing secured to the sub-chassis by a substantial lock nut. This provides a rigid connection between the platter, spindle, bearing and suspended structure.
A low-friction Diamond-Like Carbon coated thrust pad supports the spindle at the base of the housing, helping the platter rotate smoothly and consistently.
Majik Aluminium Sub-Chassis
The bearing, platter and tonearm are supported by Linn's Majik aluminium sub-chassis.
This suspended structure isolates the record-playing components from vibration reaching the outer plinth and supporting furniture.
A laminated armboard is mounted to the sub-chassis and drilled specifically for the Linn Krane tonearm.
During setup, the complete suspended assembly must be balanced so that it moves freely and evenly without contacting the plinth, top plate or base.
Internal Majik LP12 Power Supply
Majik LP12 uses Linn's internally mounted low-noise power supply and synchronous AC motor.
This provides the starting point in Linn's range of LP12 motor-control systems and drives the platter at 33? rpm through the turntable belt.
Playback at 45 rpm is supported using the supplied Linn adaptor. Unlike Selekt LP12 with Lingo or Klimax LP12 with Radikal, Majik LP12 does not provide push-button electronic speed selection.
The motor, belt and suspension are checked and adjusted during the professional setup of the turntable.
Krane Static-Balanced Tonearm
Krane is Linn's Majik-level tonearm and is designed specifically around the geometry and suspended construction of the LP12.
It is hand-assembled using precision aluminium and stainless-steel components and employs a static-balanced design.
A polished tungsten and sapphire vertical bearing works with a dual ceramic horizontal bearing assembly. These low-friction bearings allow the cartridge to follow groove movement and record warps with minimal restriction.
Krane also provides several useful setup adjustments:
- Laser-etched scale for repeatable vertical tracking-angle adjustment
- Adjustable azimuth with a fixed offset angle
- Adjustable headshell for precise effective length
- Magnetic anti-skating adjustment
- Linn three-point headshell mounting
- Five-pin DIN tonearm-cable connection
These adjustments allow the Koil cartridge to be installed accurately while providing compatibility with a range of suitable future cartridge upgrades.
Koil Moving Coil Cartridge
The
Linn Koil
is an entry-level moving coil cartridge developed as the natural MC partner for Majik LP12.
Its nude Microlinear diamond stylus is mounted to a low-mass boron cantilever. This profile is designed to follow fine changes within the record groove while the rigid boron cantilever transfers stylus movement accurately to the generator.
The cartridge uses a trapezial armature and copper coil wire, with an output of 0.4 mV at 5 cm/s.
Linn specifies a tracking-force range of 1.8 to 2.2 g, with 2 g as the nominal setting. Audio T will align the cartridge and set its tracking force and anti-skating during the turntable build.
Solid Base Aluminium Baseboard
Majik LP12 is fitted with Linn's Solid Base, a rigid aluminium baseboard attached to the underside of the wooden plinth.
It provides a stable platform for the turntable, protects the internal components and supports the starting level of the LP12 baseboard range.
The Solid Base can later be replaced with Linn's Trampolin suspended base, which uses compliant feet to provide additional isolation from vibration travelling through the supporting furniture.
Available Wood Finishes
Audio T offers the Majik LP12 with Koil cartridge in five standard smooth-plinth finishes.
Black Ash
A dark and understated finish suited to both traditional and contemporary systems.
Cherry
A warm finish with a traditional natural-wood appearance.
Oak
A lighter finish that clearly displays the grain and character of the hardwood plinth.
Rosenut
A rich reddish-brown option with a deeper and more distinctive appearance.
Walnut
A natural medium-to-dark finish with visible variation in tone and grain.
Wood is a natural material, so shade, grain and pattern will vary between individual plinths.
Fluted, high-gloss, bespoke colour and Bedrok™ plinth options may also be available by special order. Speak to Audio T before ordering if you are interested in an alternative finish or plinth specification.
Majik LP12 MM or MC?
Majik LP12 with Adikt MM
The moving magnet version is supplied with Linn's Adikt cartridge and is suitable for a conventional MM phono stage.
It may be the more straightforward choice where the existing amplifier has a good-quality moving magnet input.
Majik LP12 with Koil MC
This product page covers the moving coil version with the Koil cartridge.
Koil uses a nude Microlinear stylus and boron cantilever but requires a compatible low-output moving coil phono stage.
The best version depends on the phono stage already in the system and whether future moving coil cartridge upgrades are planned.
Majik, Selekt or Klimax LP12?
Majik LP12
Majik provides the starting point with the Karousel bearing, internal power supply, Majik sub-chassis, Krane tonearm and Solid Base.
This version adds the Koil moving coil cartridge.
Selekt LP12
The
Linn Selekt LP12
adds the Lingo power supply, Kore sub-chassis, Arko tonearm, Kendo cartridge and Trampolin base.
Klimax LP12
The
Linn Klimax LP12
combines Linn's reference Keel SE, Klimax Radikal, Ekos SE, Ekstatik and Urika phono-stage components.
Designed to Be Upgraded
Majik LP12 is not a closed turntable that must be replaced when you want greater performance.
Its modular construction allows the principal components to be serviced or upgraded individually. Possible future changes include:
- Lingo or Radikal motor control and power supply
- Kore or Keel SE sub-chassis
- Trampolin suspended base
- Arko or Ekos SE tonearm
- Kendo or Ekstatik moving coil cartridge
- Urika internal phono stage
- Bedrok™ densified beech plinth
Upgrades do not need to be carried out all at once. Audio T can assess the turntable and help determine which change is likely to provide the most worthwhile improvement within the existing system.
Professional LP12 Setup by Audio T
A Linn LP12 must be assembled and adjusted by an experienced specialist. Its suspended sub-chassis, bearing, motor, tonearm and cartridge all require accurate installation.
Audio T staff can build the turntable, balance the suspension, dress the tonearm cable, align the Koil cartridge and set its tracking force and anti-skating.
