Audio T Verdict
The Dynaudio Focus 30 combines a premium floorstanding loudspeaker, network streamer, digital processor and six channels of amplification within one elegant stereo system.
Each speaker uses dedicated 280W amplifiers for its two 14cm MSP drivers and a 110W amplifier for the Cerotar tweeter, giving Dynaudio precise control over the crossover, bass response and protection systems.
Its sealed cabinet, room-position settings and optional Dirac Live calibration make it unusually adaptable, while the twin-driver 2.5-way design provides greater scale and bass authority than the compact Focus 10.
For customers who want proper floorstanding performance without a separate streamer, DAC, pre-amplifier, power amplifier and speaker cables, the Focus 30 is an exceptionally complete solution.

The Focus 30 is supplied as a complete stereo pair comprising one Primary speaker and one Client speaker.
A Complete Floorstanding Music System
The Focus 30 does not require a separate amplifier, network streamer or digital-to-analogue converter for normal streaming use.
The speakers contain the main components required for a modern music system:
- Network music streaming
- Digital signal processing
- Digital crossover filters
- Digital-to-analogue conversion
- Six channels of dedicated power amplification
- Volume control
- Room-position compensation
- Wireless or wired inter-speaker communication
- Remote and app control
External analogue and digital sources can still be connected, allowing the Focus 30 to become the centre of a wider music and television system.
Primary and Client Speaker Arrangement
Each Focus 30 pair consists of a Primary speaker and a Client speaker.
The Primary speaker carries the system’s wired source connections, network socket, subwoofer output, trigger connection and principal control electronics.
The Client speaker receives its digital audio signal from the Primary speaker through either:
- A wireless WiSA connection at up to 24-bit/96kHz
- A wired digital RCA connection at up to 24-bit/192kHz
Both speakers contain their own amplification and both must be connected to mains power.
Wireless Inter-Speaker Connection
The Primary and Client speakers normally connect automatically using WiSA technology.
This removes the need to run a signal or conventional speaker cable between the cabinets and provides a particularly clean installation.
The wireless inter-speaker connection supports audio at up to 24-bit/96kHz.
Its reliability will depend on the wireless environment, speaker spacing and interference from other wireless equipment.
Wired Inter-Speaker Connection
A digital RCA connection can be used between the Primary and Client speakers where a cable is preferred or the wireless environment is heavily congested.
The wired inter-speaker connection supports audio at up to 24-bit/192kHz.
A wired connection may also be useful in permanent installations where the necessary cable can be concealed beneath the floor or within the room.
670W of Amplification Per Speaker
Each Focus 30 contains three Class D power amplifiers supplied by Danish amplification specialist Pascal.
The amplifier allocation within each cabinet is:
- 280W for the lower 14cm MSP woofer
- 280W for the upper 14cm MSP midrange and woofer
- 110W for the Cerotar tweeter
This provides a total of 670W of dedicated amplification within each speaker.
Every amplifier is selected and tuned for the driver it powers rather than being required to operate across the complete frequency range.
Why Use an Amplifier for Every Driver?
In a conventional passive loudspeaker, one external amplifier powers every drive unit through a passive crossover.
Within the Focus 30, the audio signal is divided by DSP before it reaches the individual power amplifiers.
This allows Dynaudio to control:
- The frequency range sent to each driver
- Relative driver output
- Crossover slopes
- Phase alignment
- Frequency-response equalisation
- Bass extension
- Dynamic protection
- Maximum driver excursion
The amplification, crossover and drivers can therefore be developed as one complete system.
Pascal Class D Amplification
The Focus amplifier technology is related to that used in Dynaudio’s Core professional studio monitors.
Class D amplification provides high output from a compact and efficient module, making it suitable for a speaker where three amplifiers and their associated electronics must fit inside each cabinet.
The Pascal amplifiers are matched to the electrical and mechanical requirements of the individual Focus 30 drivers.
2.5-Way DSP-Based Crossover
The Focus 30 uses a 2.5-way DSP-based crossover with transition regions at approximately 220Hz and 2400Hz.
The lower 14cm driver operates as a dedicated woofer, while the upper 14cm driver reproduces bass and midrange frequencies before handing over to the Cerotar tweeter.
Digital signal processing provides precise control over:
- The low-frequency contribution of both MSP drivers
- The transition between the lower and upper drivers
- The crossover between the upper driver and tweeter
- Relative driver level
- Electrical and acoustic phase
- Frequency-response correction
- Dynamic protection
Why Use a 2.5-Way Driver Arrangement?
A 2.5-way system combines the additional bass output of two drivers with the controlled midrange behaviour of a single upper driver.
Using both 14cm MSP diaphragms through the bass provides:
- Greater total cone area
- Lower excursion for each driver at a given level
- Greater low-frequency output
- Improved dynamic headroom
- More convincing floorstanding scale
Filtering the lower driver before the main midrange helps reduce interference between the two vertically separated diaphragms through the vocal range.
28mm Cerotar Soft-Dome Tweeter
High frequencies are reproduced by Dynaudio’s 28mm Cerotar coated fabric soft-dome tweeter.
The Cerotar incorporates technology developed through Dynaudio products including Confidence, Special Forty, Evoke and Core.
Its main elements include:
- A precision-coated fabric diaphragm
- Dynaudio’s Hexis inner dome
- A lightweight aluminium voice coil
- A strontium-carbonate Ferrite+ ceramic magnet system
- Controlled airflow behind the playing surface
- A carefully damped internal cavity
The tweeter is designed to combine detail and openness with the smooth, controlled presentation associated with Dynaudio’s fabric-dome designs.
Hexis Resonance-Control Inner Dome
The Hexis is a small dimpled inner dome positioned immediately behind the Cerotar diaphragm.
Its shape guides airflow behind the playing surface and helps reduce internal standing waves and unwanted resonance.
This can improve:
- High-frequency smoothness
- Transient control
- Low-level detail
- Decay and ambience
- Integration with the upper MSP driver
Twin 14cm MSP Drivers
Each Focus 30 uses two 14cm MSP drivers developed for the speaker’s active sealed design.
The upper driver reproduces bass and midrange frequencies, while the lower driver concentrates on reinforcing the low frequencies.
Each driver incorporates:
- A one-piece MSP diaphragm
- An integrated central dust-cap area
- Dynaudio Balance Ribs
- A lightweight aluminium voice coil
- An extended-throw suspension
- An improved magnet system
- DSP-controlled low-frequency behaviour
One-Piece MSP Cones
The diaphragms are made from Dynaudio’s Magnesium Silicate Polymer, normally abbreviated to MSP.
Each cone and central dust-cap area is formed as one continuous component rather than joined together as separate parts.
This construction provides:
- Consistent behaviour across the diaphragm
- Controlled stiffness
- Useful internal damping
- A strong connection to the voice-coil assembly
- No separate dust-cap joint to introduce another resonance
Aluminium Voice Coils
Dynaudio uses lightweight aluminium voice coils within the Focus 30 MSP drivers.
Aluminium allows a relatively large winding assembly to be used without the full moving mass of an equivalent copper coil.
The arrangement supports:
- Controlled cone movement
- Fast transient response
- Useful low-frequency excursion
- Clear vocal reproduction
- Consistent operation at higher levels
Extended-Throw Driver Design
The 14cm drivers use updated suspension and magnet systems to provide increased controlled movement.
Additional excursion helps the sealed cabinets reproduce deeper bass than their relatively slim dimensions might suggest.
The upper driver must also retain clear midrange behaviour because the same diaphragm reproduces voices and instruments as well as bass information.
Sealed Cabinet Design
The Focus 30 uses a sealed enclosure rather than a conventional bass-reflex port.
A sealed cabinet provides several practical and acoustic advantages:
- No rear port to obstruct
- Smooth low-frequency roll-off
- Greater positioning flexibility
- No audible port turbulence
- DSP-controlled extension below the drivers’ natural response
The absence of a port does not make the speaker immune to nearby walls and room modes, but close-wall installation can be easier to manage than with a large rear-ported floorstander.
Dynamic Bass Extension
The Focus 30 uses DSP to extend its low-frequency performance when listening level and available driver excursion allow it.
Dynamic Bass Extension can provide deeper bass at lower and moderate levels, while progressively protecting the drivers as volume increases.
Current Focus firmware also allows Dynamic Bass Extension to be switched on or off through the Dynaudio app.
Sliding High-Pass Protection
A dynamic sliding high-pass filter protects the MSP drivers during demanding high-level playback.
As the volume increases, the system progressively limits the deepest frequencies to reduce excessive cone excursion.
This allows the Focus 30 to provide impressive low-frequency extension at normal levels while maintaining suitable protection when the system is played more loudly.
30Hz to 22kHz Frequency Response
Dynaudio specifies a frequency response from 30Hz to 22kHz at 85dB within a ±3dB tolerance.
The published dynamic response at the wider -6dB tolerance extends from 18Hz to 36kHz.
The dynamic lower figure should not be interpreted as fixed full-output extension at every listening level. The DSP adjusts the deepest bass according to volume, driver excursion and protection requirements.
Using the Focus 30 Without a Subwoofer
The Focus 30 is designed to deliver substantial full-range performance without automatically requiring a separate subwoofer.
Its twin MSP drivers and active bass management can reproduce convincing weight from:
- Bass guitar
- Kick drum
- Grand piano
- Cello and double bass
- Electronic music
- Orchestral recordings
- Film and television soundtracks
A subwoofer may still be useful where the system requires greater low-frequency headroom, more flexible bass positioning or additional home cinema impact.
Streaming Services and Network Playback
The Focus 30 supports a broad range of integrated streaming and network playback options.
Current services and protocols include:
- Spotify Connect
- Tidal Connect
- Qobuz Connect with current firmware
- Apple AirPlay 2
- Google Chromecast
- Roon
- Qplay
- UPnP network playback
- Internet radio
- Bluetooth
Service availability, subscriptions and maximum playback quality are determined partly by the individual service, source device and network.
Qobuz Connect
Qobuz Connect support was added to all three Focus models through firmware version 1.2.120.
This allows music to be selected from the Qobuz app and transferred directly to the Focus 30 without relying on Bluetooth from the controlling device.
The Dynaudio app and speaker firmware should be kept current to provide access to the latest supported features.
Roon Playback
The Focus 30 can operate as a network playback endpoint within a Roon system.
This allows music managed by a Roon server to be selected and controlled through the Roon interface.
Available resolution and performance will depend on the network, server and selected inter-speaker connection.
Apple AirPlay 2 and Google Chromecast
Apple AirPlay 2 allows compatible Apple devices and applications to send audio to the Focus 30 through the local network.
Built-in Google Chromecast allows compatible applications to transfer playback to the speakers while the mobile device acts as the controller.
Both functions require the controlling device and Focus system to be connected to a compatible network.
Spotify Connect and Tidal Connect
Spotify Connect and Tidal Connect allow music to be selected from their respective applications and played directly through the Focus 30.
The controlling phone, tablet or computer does not need to remain in the audio signal path once playback has been transferred to the speakers.
Bluetooth 4.2
Bluetooth 4.2 provides a straightforward connection for compatible phones, tablets and computers.
Bluetooth is useful for guests, occasional listening and applications that do not support one of the integrated network services.
For the best available quality and reliability, a direct network service or wired input may be preferable where supported.
Wi-Fi and Ethernet Networking
The Focus 30 can connect to the home network through Wi-Fi or wired Ethernet.
Wi-Fi provides the cleanest installation, while Ethernet may be preferable where:
- The wireless signal is weak
- The network is heavily congested
- The speakers are installed far from the router
- Building construction reduces wireless coverage
- A permanent wired network is already available
A reliable network connection is important for streaming, app control and firmware updates.
Dynaudio Set-Up and Control App
The Focus 30 is configured through the Dynaudio Set-Up and Control app for compatible iOS and Android devices.
The app is used to:
- Connect the speakers to the network
- Select the speaker position
- Choose and name inputs
- Create presets
- Adjust tonal balance
- Configure a subwoofer
- Set maximum volume
- Adjust left and right balance
- Manage fixed-volume operation
- Pair or unpair the remote control
- Install firmware updates
- Access Dirac Live profiles
Room-Position Compensation
The Dynaudio app allows the Focus 30 to be configured according to its position within the room.
Typical options include:
- Free-space positioning
- Positioning near a wall
- Positioning in a corner
The DSP adjusts the speaker’s response to compensate for the additional bass reinforcement created by nearby room boundaries.
This provides a useful starting point, although careful physical positioning remains important.
Optional Dirac Live Room Calibration
The Focus 30 supports optional Dirac Live room calibration for more detailed acoustic optimisation.
Dirac Live measures the speakers and room from the listening area, then creates correction filters intended to improve frequency and time-domain behaviour.
It can be particularly useful where:
- The room is asymmetrical
- Speaker positioning is restricted
- Low-frequency room modes are prominent
- The listening position is close to a wall
- A subwoofer is being integrated
A Dirac Live licence and suitable measurement equipment may be required separately.
Dirac Live Presets
Multiple Dirac Live profiles can be stored within the Focus system.
This allows different target curves or listening arrangements to be selected without repeating the complete measurement process.
Current firmware also provides additional profile storage for configurations that include a subwoofer.
Smart Grille Detection
The supplied magnetic grilles contain an automatic detection system.
The Focus 30 applies a dedicated EQ profile according to whether the grilles are fitted or removed.
The front indicator briefly glows blue when the system detects a change and adjusts its response.
Supplied Bluetooth Remote Control
A Bluetooth remote control is supplied for day-to-day operation without requiring a phone or tablet.
It can be used for functions including:
- Volume adjustment
- Playback control
- Input selection
- Preset access
- Standby control
The remote can be paired or unpaired through the Dynaudio app when current firmware is installed.
Presets and Internet Radio
Current Focus firmware supports up to ten radio presets through the app.
The first three presets can also be accessed directly from the supplied remote control.
Presets provide quick access to regularly used stations or sources without searching through the complete app interface.
Analogue RCA Input
The Primary speaker provides a stereo pair of RCA analogue inputs.
This connection can be used with suitable sources including:
- CD players
- Network streamers
- External DACs
- Televisions with compatible analogue output
- Pre-amplifiers
- Phono stages
- Tape equipment
The analogue input signal is converted for processing by the Focus system’s DSP.
Connecting a Turntable
A conventional turntable cannot normally be connected directly unless it includes a suitable built-in phono stage.
Most turntables require an external moving-magnet or moving-coil phono stage between the cartridge and the Focus 30’s RCA input.
The phono stage must match the cartridge type and provide a standard line-level output.
Fixed-Volume Operation
The Focus app can configure fixed-volume operation for individual inputs.
This can be useful when volume is controlled by an external pre-amplifier, television or other source.
Use Fixed Volume Carefully
Fixed-volume operation can bypass the normal Focus volume control for the selected input.
Confirm that the connected source provides safe and reliable volume adjustment before enabling this mode.
Optical and Coaxial Digital Inputs
A Toslink optical input and RCA coaxial digital input are provided on the Primary speaker.
Suitable digital sources may include:
- Televisions
- CD transports
- Games consoles
- Set-top boxes
- Network transports
A source connected by optical should provide a compatible two-channel digital signal. A correctly specified 75-ohm digital coaxial cable is recommended for the RCA digital input.
Television Connection
The Focus 30 can improve television sound without requiring a conventional AV receiver or soundbar.
Connection options include:
- Optical digital output from the television
- Compatible analogue output
- WiSA from a compatible television
- A suitable WiSA transmitter or USB device
The Focus 30 does not provide an HDMI eARC input, so television compatibility and volume-control requirements should be checked before purchase.
WiSA Television Connectivity
WiSA allows compatible televisions and transmitters to send synchronised wireless audio directly to active speakers.
The technology supports high-resolution audio at up to 24-bit/96kHz and can accommodate multiple channels within a compatible system.
Television and transmitter compatibility should be confirmed before installation.
Subwoofer Output and Trigger
The Primary speaker provides one RCA subwoofer output and a trigger output.
The subwoofer output allows the Focus system to manage low-frequency integration through the Dynaudio app.
The trigger can switch compatible subwoofers or associated equipment between standby and operating states.
Current Subwoofer Management
Current Focus firmware provides enhanced subwoofer setup within the Dynaudio app.
Available adjustments include:
- Subwoofer distance compensation
- Speaker distance compensation
- Time alignment
- Output level
- Phase adjustment
- Automatic presets for selected Dynaudio subwoofers
- Manual settings for third-party subwoofers
- Dirac Live calibration with a connected subwoofer
Adding the Dynaudio Sub 6
The Dynaudio Sub 6 can be connected to the Focus 30’s dedicated subwoofer output.
When used with the current Focus range, crossover alignment is controlled by the Focus system rather than the Sub 6’s speaker-performance map.
The Sub 6 crossover should therefore be placed in bypass mode before setup is completed through the Focus app.
Dynaudio Subwoofer Presets
Current Focus firmware includes setup presets for compatible Dynaudio subwoofers including the Sub 3, Sub 6 and Sub 600.
Selecting the appropriate model allows the Focus system to establish suitable starting values for gain and phase.
Distance compensation and Dirac Live can then refine the integration for the individual room.
Maximum-Volume and Balance Settings
The Dynaudio app includes a maximum-volume control that can prevent the system from being raised accidentally beyond a chosen limit.
Current firmware also provides balance adjustment for the complete system and separate correction for analogue input imbalance.
These controls can compensate for:
- An off-centre listening position
- Asymmetrical speaker placement
- Slight channel differences from an analogue source
- Turntable or phono-stage channel imbalance
Physical speaker positioning should still be optimised before relying on electronic correction.
Firmware Updates
The Focus 30 is a software-controlled product that can receive new features, refinements and compatibility updates.
Firmware updates are normally downloaded through the network and managed from the Dynaudio app.
Keeping the system current provides access to improvements including Qobuz Connect, expanded presets, enhanced subwoofer management and additional setup controls.
Integrated Floor Supports
The Focus 30 is a floorstanding speaker with integrated feet that extend beyond the slim main cabinet.
The wider footprint provides:
- Improved stability
- Secure floor contact
- Suitable clearance beneath the cabinet
- A visually slim 180mm-wide enclosure
- Adjustment for uneven floors
The speakers should be levelled so that each cabinet stands vertically without rocking.
Carpet and Hard-Floor Installation
The appropriate floor-contact hardware should be selected for the intended installation.
Spikes can provide stable contact through a carpet, while protective discs or suitable alternative contacts should be used on wood, tile and other sensitive hard floors.
The speakers should not be dragged across the floor after the spikes or contact points have been fitted.
Plan the Installation Before Unpacking
Each Focus 30 weighs approximately 16.2kg and contains active electronics.
Check doors, stairs, furniture and the final speaker positions before installation, and protect the cabinet finish and floor while fitting the support hardware.
Speaker Positioning
Dynaudio suggests positioning Focus speakers between approximately two and four metres apart as a broad starting range.
The distance from each speaker to the listening position should normally be similar to, or slightly greater than, the distance between the speakers.
Final positioning should be adjusted while assessing:
- Central vocal focus
- Soundstage width
- Soundstage depth
- Bass weight
- Bass consistency
- Image stability
Toe-In and Listening Angle
The Focus 30 does not have to be angled directly towards the listener.
Greater toe-in can:
- Strengthen central image focus
- Reduce some side-wall reflection
- Create a more direct high-frequency balance
Less toe-in can:
- Broaden the apparent soundstage
- Create a more relaxed balance
- Provide more even coverage across a wider seating area
Both speakers should be adjusted by the same amount.
Close-Wall Positioning
The sealed cabinet makes the Focus 30 easier to position near a wall than many large rear-ported floorstanding speakers.
Wall proximity will still increase perceived bass output and can reduce soundstage depth.
Select the near-wall or corner setting in the Dynaudio app where appropriate, then refine the physical position by listening.
Symmetrical Room Placement
Where practical, the immediate surroundings of the left and right speakers should have similar acoustic properties.
Placing one speaker beside heavy curtains and the other beside a bare wall can affect tonal balance and stereo imaging.
Windows, alcoves, doorways, fireplaces and substantial furniture should all be considered during setup.
Black, White, Walnut and Blonde Wood Finishes
Audio T currently lists the Focus 30 in:
- Black High Gloss
- White High Gloss
- Walnut Wood
- Blonde Wood
Availability can vary according to current UK production and stock.
High-Gloss and Natural Wood Finishes
The Black High Gloss and White High Gloss versions use a deep, smooth lacquer finish.
Walnut Wood provides a darker and warmer appearance, while Blonde Wood uses a lighter natural tone.
Natural wood surfaces can display individual differences in grain, colour and pattern. The cabinets are matched as a stereo pair and should remain together as supplied.
Brushed Aluminium Details
Brushed anodised aluminium trim rings surround the Cerotar tweeter and MSP drivers.
The grilles also include discreet aluminium details carrying the Dynaudio logo.
A Y-shaped front indicator displays operating and setup information through different colours.
Magnetic Smart Grilles
Black magnetic Smart Grilles are supplied with the speakers.
The magnetic attachment allows the grilles to be fitted without visible locating holes.
The automatic sensing system applies the appropriate EQ when the grilles are attached or removed.
Power and Standby
Each speaker accepts a 100V to 240V, 50Hz or 60Hz mains supply.
Dynaudio specifies:
- Maximum standby consumption of 2W per speaker
- Maximum power consumption of 280W per speaker
Both speakers require a nearby mains socket even when their audio and network connections are wireless.
Both Speakers Require Mains Power
The wireless connection removes the need for conventional speaker cable between the cabinets, but it does not make either speaker battery powered.
Plan the installation around two suitable mains outlets.

The app provides settings for free-space, near-wall and corner installation.
Does it support Dirac Live?
Yes. Optional Dirac Live calibration can be used for more detailed room and subwoofer optimisation.
Does Dirac Live require anything extra?
A suitable licence and measurement equipment may be required separately, depending on the selected Dirac package.

Toe-in is optional. Experiment with equal adjustment on both speakers to find the preferred balance between central focus and soundstage width.
What are the cabinet dimensions?
Dynaudio specifies 180 x 900 x 261mm (W x H x D).
