The ATC SCM50ASL is a reference three-way active loudspeaker that combines studio-monitor accuracy with the finish and presentation required for a serious domestic music system.
Each speaker contains a dedicated amplifier for its bass, midrange and high-frequency driver, producing 350W of carefully matched tri-amplification. ATC’s active crossover divides the signal before amplification, allowing the electronics and drive units to operate as one integrated system.

ATC SCM50ASL Active Speakers
The ATC SCM50ASL is a three-way active loudspeaker system supplied as a stereo pair with matching 250mm stands, fabric-wrapped grilles and adjustable floor spikes.
Each cabinet combines ATC’s 234mm Super Linear bass driver, SM75-150S 75mm soft-dome midrange and 25mm high-frequency driver with a dedicated three-channel amplifier pack and electronic crossover.

What Is an Active Loudspeaker?
An active loudspeaker contains its own power amplifiers and electronic crossover, removing the need for a separate stereo power amplifier.
The incoming line-level signal is divided into bass, midrange and high-frequency bands before amplification. Each frequency band is then sent to an amplifier connected directly to its corresponding drive unit.
This allows ATC to design and match the crossover, amplifiers and drivers as a complete system rather than relying on the customer to select a separate power amplifier.
A Pre-Amplifier or Variable Output Is Required
The SCM50ASL does not provide source selection or a conventional listening-volume control.
Connect the speakers to a suitable pre-amplifier, streamer or DAC with a safe and properly controlled variable analogue output. A fixed-level source must not be connected directly.
350W Tri-Amplification in Each Speaker
Each SCM50ASL contains three individually matched MOSFET amplifier channels.

234mm Super Linear Bass Driver
Low frequencies are reproduced by ATC’s substantial 234mm bass driver, powered directly by its dedicated 200W amplifier.
Super Linear Magnet technology is designed to reduce magnetic distortion within the drive system, helping the speaker combine powerful bass with accurate pitch, timing and low-level detail.
The enhanced port profile and substantial motor assembly allow the SCM50ASL to reach 38Hz at the stated minus 6dB point.
ATC 25mm High-Frequency Driver
High frequencies are handled by ATC’s 25mm driver, powered by its own 50W amplifier.
Separating the high-frequency amplifier from the bass and midrange channels helps preserve fine detail during demanding musical peaks.

Active Electronic Crossover

Because the crossover operates at line level, it avoids placing the large inductors and capacitors of a conventional high-power passive crossover between the amplifiers and drive units.
Balanced XLR Inputs
Each speaker provides a balanced XLR line-level input with a sensitivity of 1V and an input impedance greater than 10k ohms.
A stereo installation therefore requires two signal cables, one running from the controlling pre-amplifier or source to each speaker.
Balanced connections are particularly useful where the speakers are positioned several metres away from the source equipment, helping reduce susceptibility to electrical interference.
Matching ATC Pre-Amplifiers
The

38Hz to 25kHz Frequency Response
ATC specifies a frequency response extending from 38Hz to 25kHz at the stated minus 6dB points.
The SCM50ASL is designed to produce substantial but controlled low frequencies rather than relying on an exaggerated tonal balance to create the impression of scale.
The ported cabinet and dedicated bass amplification provide greater low-frequency extension than ATC’s smaller Entry Series active speakers.
112dB Maximum Continuous Output
The SCM50ASL is rated for a maximum continuous sound pressure level of 112dB at one metre.

Matching Stands Included

Plan Access and Installation
Each speaker weighs 48.9kg and measures 717mm high, 304mm wide and 480mm deep, including its rear amplifier.
Confirm access through doorways, stairways and tight corners before installation. Additional space is also required behind each cabinet for the XLR cable, mains lead and ventilation.

Adjust speaker spacing, wall distance and toe-in gradually while listening to familiar recordings.
