REL Arrow Wireless System for Serie T/x and T/i Subwoofers

REL Arrow Wireless System for Serie T/x and T/i Subwoofers

Audio T Verdict

REL Arrow provides a tidy wireless alternative when the best acoustic position for a compatible Serie T/x or T/i subwoofer would otherwise require a long signal cable around the room.

Unlike a basic wireless LFE adaptor, Arrow can carry REL’s preferred High Level music signal and the dedicated home cinema LFE channel simultaneously. This allows one subwoofer to support both two-channel listening and film playback without changing connections.

The compact receiver connects directly to the dedicated wireless interface on the back of the REL, while the transmitter sits beside the amplifier or home cinema processor.

Compatibility is limited to the correct REL ranges and hardware generation. Arrow is not suitable for Tzero models and should not be confused with Airship II, Airship Direct or HT-Air MKII.

REL Arrow Wireless System

REL Arrow is a paired wireless transmitter and receiver system designed for compatible Serie T/x and Serie T/i subwoofers.

The transmitter accepts a High Level signal from the main amplifier and an RCA LFE signal from a home cinema receiver or processor. These signals are transmitted to the compact receiver fitted directly to the rear of the compatible REL.

This gives greater freedom to position the subwoofer according to the acoustics of the listening room rather than the practical route of a long signal cable.

Zero-Compression Wireless Transmission

REL developed Arrow as a dedicated wireless system rather than adapting a conventional Bluetooth or Wi-Fi audio platform.

The signal is transmitted without lossy digital compression, helping preserve the speed, dynamics and tonal character required for natural integration with the main loudspeakers.

REL uses large-scale integrated circuit technology to provide a responsive wireless connection within a compact and straightforward system.

Complete Transmitter and Receiver System

The package contains a transmitter for the equipment end of the system and a compact receiver that connects to the dedicated wireless interface on a compatible REL subwoofer.

The transmitter requires its supplied 5V DC power adaptor. The receiver obtains its operating connection through the REL’s rear interface, while the subwoofer retains its normal mains connection.

The transmitter and receiver are paired specifically for this type of installation and should be kept together as a matching system.

REL High Level Connection

The transmitter provides a Neutrik Speakon High Level input for connection to the loudspeaker outputs of a compatible integrated amplifier, receiver or power amplifier.

This allows Arrow to receive the same signal sent to the main loudspeakers, including the tonal balance and timing characteristics of the amplifier’s output stage.

REL considers this an important part of achieving natural integration in a two-channel music system. The High Level input has a very high impedance and does not draw meaningful power from the amplifier.

High Level Wiring Depends on the Amplifier

Conventional Class A/B amplifiers, balanced designs, Class D amplifiers and monoblock systems can require different High Level wiring methods.

Confirm the amplifier’s output topology and the correct REL connection arrangement before attaching the cable.

Single RCA LFE Input

A single RCA input allows Arrow to receive the dedicated low-frequency effects channel from a compatible home cinema receiver or surround processor.

The LFE signal bypasses REL’s normal High Level crossover arrangement and is managed by the bass settings within the home cinema processor and compatible subwoofer.

Arrow does not provide balanced XLR, stereo low-level RCA or USB audio inputs.

High Level and LFE Together

The High Level and RCA LFE connections can operate simultaneously.

This allows the REL to support the main left and right loudspeakers during stereo music playback while also reproducing the dedicated effects channel during home cinema use.

The music and cinema levels remain independently adjustable through the controls provided by the REL subwoofer and home cinema processor.

Compatible REL Subwoofers

REL currently specifies Arrow for Serie T/x and Serie T/i subwoofers.

Current compatible Audio T models include:

Earlier Serie T/i models equipped with the appropriate wireless interface can also use Arrow.

Not Compatible with REL Tzero

REL explicitly excludes Tzero models from Arrow compatibility.

Compatibility should always be checked from the exact model name and generation rather than assuming that every REL subwoofer supports the same wireless system.

Arrow Version Compatibility

REL’s operating instructions warn that Arrow Version 2 is not compatible with Arrow Version 1.

A Version 1 transmitter should therefore not be mixed with a Version 2 receiver, or vice versa.

Where an individual component is being replaced, the hardware generation should be confirmed before installation.

Wireless Range and Positioning

REL specifies an effective wireless distance of approximately 15.2 metres with clear line of sight.

Walls, metal objects, dense furniture, equipment racks and nearby wireless devices can reduce the practical working distance.

Position the transmitter and receiver with as few substantial obstructions between them as practical, and test the wireless connection before completing the final subwoofer setup.

Receiver Installation

The compact receiver docks into the dedicated wireless connection on the rear of a compatible Serie T/x or T/i subwoofer.

This integrated mounting arrangement keeps the receiver secure and avoids leaving a separate box or trailing interconnect behind the subwoofer.

The electrical interface should be fully engaged and any retaining hardware should only be tightened as instructed by REL.

Signal Cables

The current Arrow specification does not list a High Level or RCA signal cable among the supplied accessories.

For High Level operation, use the appropriate REL cable supplied with the compatible subwoofer or another correctly terminated cable intended for the application.

A suitable single RCA subwoofer cable is required when using the LFE connection.

For a conventional wired High Level installation, the REL Bassline Blue provides a dedicated cable option for compatible systems.

Wireless Does Not Remove Every Cable

Arrow removes the long audio cable normally running across the room to the subwoofer.

The transmitter still needs a short signal connection from the amplifier or processor and its own power adaptor. The REL subwoofer also continues to require mains power.

The system therefore provides wireless signal transmission rather than battery-powered subwoofer operation.

Simple Pairing

  1. Confirm that the REL model and Arrow hardware versions are compatible.
  2. Connect the receiver securely to the subwoofer’s wireless interface.
  3. Connect the required High Level or RCA LFE signal to the transmitter.
  4. Connect the transmitter power adaptor.
  5. Switch on the REL and Arrow transmitter.
  6. Use the pairing controls if the units do not connect automatically.
  7. Confirm that the status indicators remain steadily illuminated.
  8. Complete the normal REL positioning and tuning process.

Wireless pairing establishes the signal connection only. The REL’s room position, phase, crossover and level controls must still be adjusted to suit the loudspeakers and listening room.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does REL Arrow include a transmitter and receiver?

Yes. Arrow is a complete paired system with a transmitter for the amplifier end and a compact receiver for the compatible REL subwoofer.

Which REL subwoofers are compatible?

Arrow is designed for Serie T/x and compatible Serie T/i models, including the T/5x, T/7x, T/9x and T/9x Special Edition.

Does Arrow work with REL Tzero?

No. REL explicitly excludes Tzero models from Arrow compatibility.

Can it transmit High Level and LFE together?

Yes. Both connections can operate simultaneously for systems used for stereo music and home cinema.

Does Arrow include the signal cables?

The current specification does not list a High Level or RCA cable among the supplied accessories.

How far can Arrow transmit?

REL specifies approximately 15.2 metres with clear line of sight. Walls, furniture and wireless interference may reduce the practical distance.

Can Version 1 and Version 2 units be mixed?

No. REL states that Arrow Version 2 is not compatible with Version 1, so the transmitter and receiver generations must match.

Does the subwoofer still require mains power?

Yes. Arrow transmits the audio signal only. The compatible REL remains an active subwoofer and retains its normal mains connection.
