Audio T Verdict
The DALI KATCH G2 is a premium portable Bluetooth speaker for listeners who want genuine clarity, balance and refinement without carrying a complete Hi-Fi system from room to room.
Its slim aluminium cabinet contains a proper two-way stereo speaker system. Two 21mm soft-dome tweeters, two 3.5-inch aluminium-cone woofers and two passive bass radiators are distributed across both sides of the enclosure, helping the KATCH G2 produce a broad and room-filling presentation from a remarkably compact body.
A fully digital Class D amplifier supplies 25W to each channel, while internal digital signal processing, conversion and crossover management have been developed around the exact behaviour of the drivers and enclosure.
Bluetooth 5.0 supports AAC, aptX and aptX HD from compatible phones, tablets and computers. A 3.5mm analogue input covers older portable players and other wired sources, while NFC can simplify Bluetooth pairing with a compatible Android device.
Clear and Warm sound modes provide a simple choice between a more neutral presentation and one with additional richness. Two KATCH G2 speakers can also be linked in True Wireless Stereo mode to create separate left and right channels with greater scale and stereo separation.
The 3,300mAh battery provides up to 30 hours of playback and recharges in around two hours. A USB output can top up a phone or power a compatible external accessory, while the retractable real-leather strap and supplied travel bag make the speaker straightforward to carry.
The KATCH G2 is not a network music system. It has no Wi-Fi, AirPlay, Chromecast, Spotify Connect, voice assistant, app control or USB audio input. It is also not waterproof, so it should be treated as a high-quality portable indoor speaker rather than rugged outdoor equipment.
For kitchens, bedrooms, holidays, hotel rooms, offices and anyone wanting better sound than a typical plastic Bluetooth speaker, the KATCH G2 remains an exceptionally polished and enjoyable portable solution.
DALI KATCH G2 Portable Wireless Bluetooth Speaker
The DALI KATCH G2 is a rechargeable portable speaker with Bluetooth 5.0, aptX HD, 3.5mm analogue input and up to 30 hours of battery playback.
Its two-way stereo driver system combines soft-dome tweeters, aluminium-cone woofers and passive bass radiators within a shallow aluminium enclosure measuring only 47mm deep.
Internal digital signal processing, digital-to-analogue conversion and 2 × 25W Class D amplification allow the drivers, cabinet and electronics to operate as one carefully tuned system.
Two selectable sound modes, NFC pairing, phone charging, automatic standby and True Wireless Stereo provide useful flexibility without requiring a control application or complicated menu system.
No Wi-Fi or Network Streaming
The DALI KATCH G2 is a Bluetooth and analogue portable speaker rather than a network music system.

Second-Generation DALI KATCH
The KATCH G2 retains the slim form and acoustic architecture of the original DALI KATCH while updating several areas of its wireless and portable performance.
Bluetooth has been upgraded from version 4.0 to Bluetooth 5.0, with aptX HD added alongside aptX and AAC.
Battery capacity has increased from 2,600mAh to 3,300mAh, extending the quoted maximum playback time from 24 to 30 hours.
True Wireless Stereo has also been added, allowing two KATCH G2 speakers to form a separate left and right stereo pair.
The second-generation model is available in Iron Black, Caramel White and Chilly Blue.
Two-Way Stereo Speaker System
The KATCH G2 contains a complete two-way stereo loudspeaker system rather than relying on one small full-range driver.
High and low frequencies are reproduced by separate drive units selected for the part of the musical spectrum they handle most effectively.
The internal crossover operates at 2,300Hz, transferring sound between the aluminium-cone woofers and soft-dome tweeters.
Separate left and right amplifier channels preserve stereo information, although the physical separation available from one compact cabinet will naturally be smaller than with two widely spaced loudspeakers.
Drivers on Both Sides
DALI places active drivers and passive bass radiators on both sides of the KATCH G2 enclosure.
This allows sound to disperse forwards and backwards rather than radiating from only one narrow face.
When placed openly on a table, the rear drivers contribute sound directly into the room. When positioned on a shelf or near a wall, reflected energy can help create a broader and more immersive presentation.
Placement will still affect tonal balance, particularly in the bass, so experimentation is worthwhile.
Two 21mm Soft-Dome Tweeters
Two 21mm soft textile dome tweeters reproduce the upper midrange and high frequencies.
Each tweeter uses a strong neodymium magnet, providing useful sensitivity and control from a physically compact motor system.
The relatively large dome surface allows the tweeter to extend further into the midrange, helping it integrate smoothly with the 3.5-inch woofer at the 2,300Hz crossover point.
The design is intended to preserve vocal clarity, treble detail and musical agility without producing an unnecessarily sharp or aggressive balance.
Two 3.5-Inch Aluminium-Cone Woofers
Two low-profile 3.5-inch drivers reproduce bass and midrange frequencies.
Their aluminium cones provide the stiffness required to move in a controlled manner while operating within the extremely shallow cabinet.
Each cone uses an outward-facing profile and soft fabric dust cap, helping reduce unwanted surface resonances while preserving low moving mass.
The shallow chassis, inverted diaphragm and specialised suspension provide useful cone excursion without requiring the depth of a conventional loudspeaker cabinet.
Dual Passive Bass Radiators
Two 73 × 52mm steel-cone passive radiators support the active woofers at lower frequencies.
A passive radiator contains no voice coil or electrical connection. It responds to pressure changes created by the active drivers inside the sealed enclosure.
This provides low-frequency reinforcement without requiring a conventional open bass-reflex port.
The arrangement is particularly useful in a shallow portable cabinet where the length and airflow requirements of a traditional port would be difficult to accommodate.
Closed Cabinet with Passive Radiators
The KATCH G2 uses a closed enclosure assisted by two passive bass radiators.
The sealed structure prevents uncontrolled airflow through an open vent, while the passive radiators provide additional low-frequency output around their tuned operating region.
DALI specifies a frequency response of 49Hz to 23kHz within plus or minus 3dB.
That is a substantial range for such a shallow portable speaker, although it should not be confused with the deep extension of a large floorstanding loudspeaker or dedicated subwoofer.
Maximum Output of 95dB
DALI specifies a maximum sound-pressure level of 95dB.
This provides useful volume for personal listening, small social gatherings and normal domestic rooms.
The KATCH G2 is not intended to replace a high-output PA speaker or a full-sized system in a large party venue.
Sound quality, battery life and distortion will also be affected by sustained playback close to the speaker's maximum level.
Protect Your Hearing
Extended exposure to high sound levels can damage hearing.
Increase the volume gradually and use a sensible level, particularly when listening close to the speaker.
2 × 25W Class D Amplification
A fully digital Class D amplifier supplies up to 25W to each channel.
Class D operation converts a high proportion of the battery's stored energy into useful amplifier output rather than unnecessary heat.
This efficiency helps the KATCH G2 combine useful output power with extended battery operation and a slim enclosure.
The two amplifier channels drive the internal stereo speaker system through crossover filtering developed specifically for the KATCH G2 drivers.
Internal Digital Signal Processing
Digital signal processing manages the Bluetooth and analogue inputs, digital-to-analogue conversion, tonal profiles and protection of the compact driver system.
DSP allows DALI to optimise the response around the known limits of the drivers, amplifier and cabinet.
The intention is not simply to exaggerate bass electronically, but to use processing where correction is required while allowing the physical drivers to operate naturally where possible.
The processing also helps maintain a controlled balance as the volume changes.
Bluetooth 5.0
Bluetooth 5.0 provides wireless playback from compatible phones, tablets, computers and portable music players.
Compared with the Bluetooth 4.0 platform used by the original KATCH, version 5.0 is intended to provide improved connection stability and range under suitable conditions.
Actual wireless performance depends on the transmitting device, physical obstacles, competing wireless signals and the surrounding environment.
The KATCH G2 will automatically attempt to reconnect to a previously paired device when that source is available.
AAC, aptX and aptX HD
The KATCH G2 supports the following Bluetooth audio codecs:
AAC is commonly used by Apple phones and tablets, while aptX and aptX HD are supported by many compatible Android devices, computers and portable players.
The actual codec is selected according to the capabilities of both the KATCH G2 and the transmitting device.
The Source Determines the Bluetooth Codec
The KATCH G2 cannot use aptX HD unless the transmitting phone, tablet, computer or portable player also supports it.
Check the source specifications where a particular Bluetooth codec is important.
Two Remembered Bluetooth Sources
Two Bluetooth devices can be paired with the KATCH G2 before existing pairings must be released.
Only one device can connect and play audio at a time, so this should not be confused with true multipoint playback or simultaneous mixing.
The Bluetooth Release button clears the existing connections and allows new source devices to be paired.
NFC Pairing
Near-field communication can simplify initial Bluetooth pairing with a compatible Android device.
With NFC enabled on the phone or tablet, bring its sensing area close to the marked region beside the KATCH G2 power button.
The devices can then initiate the normal Bluetooth pairing process without manually searching through the complete device list.
NFC pairing is not generally available on Apple devices.
True Wireless Stereo
Two KATCH G2 speakers can be linked in True Wireless Stereo mode.
One speaker reproduces the left channel and the second reproduces the right, providing greater stereo separation than one compact enclosure can create on its own.
The two speakers also combine their drivers and amplifiers, increasing available output and improving the physical scale of the presentation.
Volume changes made on either speaker are synchronised across the pair.
True Wireless Stereo Is Not Multiroom Audio
The two KATCH G2 speakers should be used in the same room or listening area.
True Wireless Stereo operates only with Bluetooth audio and is not intended to synchronise speakers in separate rooms.
Only one Bluetooth source device can be paired with the completed stereo pair at a time.
Clear and Warm Sound Modes
Two built-in sound profiles allow the tonal presentation to be adjusted directly from the speaker.
Clear Mode
Clear mode provides the more neutral and direct frequency balance.
It places greater emphasis on detail, vocal intelligibility and general clarity and is the logical starting point for most listening.
Warm Mode
Warm mode provides a richer and more relaxed presentation with additional low-frequency weight.
It can be useful in a larger room, with lighter recordings or when the speaker is positioned away from walls and other boundaries.
The preferred mode depends on the recording, room, placement and personal taste.
When two KATCH G2 speakers are linked in True Wireless Stereo, the sound mode must be selected individually on each speaker.
3.5mm Analogue Input
A stereo 3.5mm mini-jack input allows non-Bluetooth sources to connect through a conventional analogue cable.
Suitable products can include:
- An older portable music player
- A laptop or desktop computer
- A portable radio
- A network streamer with analogue output
- A television with a suitable headphone output
- An external Bluetooth receiver
Inserting a 3.5mm plug automatically switches the KATCH G2 to the analogue input and stops Bluetooth playback.
The Bluetooth Release button can then toggle between the analogue and Bluetooth sources while the cable remains connected.
Begin at a Low Source Volume
Reduce the output of the connected analogue source before making the connection.
Increase the source and speaker volume gradually to avoid an unexpectedly high listening level or distorted input signal.
USB Phone-Charging Output
A USB Type-A output supplies up to 5V at 1A.
It can top up many compatible phones and other portable devices while the KATCH G2 is operating from its battery or mains charger.
This power-bank function can be useful when a phone battery is running low during travel or outdoor listening.
Using the USB output reduces the energy remaining for music playback and can increase charging time when the KATCH G2 itself is connected to the mains.
The USB Socket Is Not an Audio Input
The USB Type-A connection provides charging power and can be used for authorised firmware updates.
It cannot play music directly from a USB memory stick, phone, computer or storage drive.
The KATCH G2 itself is recharged through its dedicated mains-charger connection rather than through the USB output.
Powering an External Streaming Device
The 5V USB output can power certain compatible external streaming accessories.
The accessory's analogue audio output can then connect to the KATCH G2's 3.5mm input.
This can add network playback to the speaker, but the KATCH G2 does not itself gain Wi-Fi, app control or native streaming-service integration.
Compatibility and current requirements must be checked before connecting any external accessory.
3,300mAh Lithium-Ion Battery
The internal rechargeable lithium-ion battery has a capacity of 3,300mAh.
This is an increase over the 2,600mAh battery fitted to the original KATCH.
DALI specifies up to 30 hours of playback at normal listening levels from a complete charge.
Actual battery life depends on volume, musical material, Bluetooth conditions, USB phone charging, battery age and ambient temperature.
Approximately Two-Hour Charging Time
A complete recharge takes a little over two hours under normal conditions.
The supplied universal mains charger connects to the dedicated power input.
Indicator lights pulse while charging and show the approximate state of the battery.
Playing music or using the USB charging output at the same time will increase the total charging period.
Greater Output on Mains Power
Connecting the supplied mains charger allows the KATCH G2 to play louder and with greater energy than it can provide from battery power alone.
This can be useful when higher output is required for a social gathering or a larger room.
Normal battery operation remains more than sufficient for everyday portable listening.
Battery-Level Indicators
Four indicator lights show the approximate battery state when the KATCH G2 is switched on.
The same lights also indicate volume, Bluetooth pairing and other operating functions.
Charge the speaker before extended travel rather than waiting until the battery is fully depleted.
Automatic Power-Off
When operating from battery power, the KATCH G2 switches off automatically after approximately 20 minutes without use.
This helps prevent unnecessary battery drain if the speaker is left switched on accidentally.
The automatic power-off behaviour may differ while the speaker is connected to its mains charger.
Service-Replaceable Battery
DALI describes the internal battery as replaceable.
Battery replacement should be handled through an authorised service route rather than opening the aluminium cabinet at home.
Lithium-ion battery life gradually reduces through age, charge cycles, prolonged heat and extended storage in a fully discharged condition.
Do Not Open the Speaker
The KATCH G2 contains a lithium-ion battery, amplifier and other electronic components.
There are no routine user-serviceable parts inside. Contact Audio T or an authorised DALI service centre if the battery or electronics require attention.
Extruded Aluminium Cabinet
The internal speaker system is housed within a slim extruded aluminium body.
Aluminium provides a rigid structure that helps resist vibration while giving the KATCH G2 a more substantial and premium feel than a typical moulded-plastic portable speaker.
The curved profile, perforated grilles and neatly integrated controls reflect DALI's emphasis on Scandinavian industrial design.
The enclosure is only 47mm deep, allowing it to fit easily into luggage or a suitable backpack.
Retractable Real-Leather Strap
A real-leather carrying strap is integrated into the side of the speaker.
The strap can sit closely against the cabinet during normal use or extend and lock into position as a carrying handle.
The golden DALI logo provides a visual detail shared across the three finish options.
Support the speaker securely and check that the strap is locked before carrying or hanging it.
Shelf, Table or Hanging Placement
DALI lists shelf, table and suspended strap placement among the recommended options.
A free-standing table position allows both sides of the speaker to radiate more openly into the room.
Placing the KATCH G2 close to a wall or in a corner increases bass reinforcement, while an open position normally produces a leaner balance.
The Clear and Warm sound modes can help compensate for differences in room position.
Make Sure the Speaker Is Secure
Place the KATCH G2 on a stable surface where it cannot be knocked over or pulled down by a connected cable.
When using the strap, confirm that both the strap and supporting hook or fixture can safely carry the speaker's 1.1kg weight.
Not Waterproof
DALI does not specify an IP water- or dust-resistance rating for the KATCH G2.
It should therefore be protected from rain, splashes, condensation, sand and excessive dust.
The speaker may be used outdoors in suitable dry conditions, but it should be taken inside if the weather changes.
Keep the KATCH G2 Dry
Do not use the speaker in the shower, beside a swimming pool, in heavy rain or anywhere it could fall into water.
Do not connect the mains charger, USB output or analogue cable if the speaker or connectors are wet.
Factory Reset
A factory reset returns the KATCH G2 to its original configuration.
The procedure is useful where pairing or operating behaviour cannot be resolved by switching the speaker off and on.
Existing Bluetooth pairings and personalised speaker-name settings may need to be re-established after the reset.
Follow the official instructions carefully rather than pressing combinations of controls at random.
Firmware Updates
DALI provides a manual firmware-update process where an authorised update file is available.
The firmware file is copied to the root directory of a compatible USB memory stick and installed through the USB connection while the speaker is connected to mains power.
The USB socket still does not provide normal music-file playback.
Only use a firmware file supplied specifically for the KATCH G2 and follow DALI's instructions exactly.
Cleaning and Storage
Clean the cabinet with a soft dry cloth.
For stubborn marks, use a lightly dampened cloth that has been thoroughly wrung out, taking care to prevent moisture entering the grilles or connections.
Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents or excessive liquid.
Prolonged exposure to strong direct sunlight may fade or discolour the surface finish, so avoid leaving the speaker in a hot window or parked vehicle.
Supplied Travel Bag
A soft travel bag is included to protect the speaker from dust, dirt and light surface marking.
The bag is not a rigid flight case and will not prevent damage from crushing, heavy impacts or careless handling.
Make sure the KATCH G2 is switched off and dry before placing it inside the bag.
