The Sonus faber Lumina I is one of those speakers that makes far more sense once you stop judging it by cabinet size. At just 280mm high and 148mm wide, it is genuinely compact, yet Sonus faber has still managed to give it a proper 120mm paper-cone midwoofer, the company's 29mm D.A.D. soft-dome tweeter, bi-wire terminals and a carefully tuned vented enclosure.
There are two things to understand before buying. First, Lumina I is not particularly sensitive at 84dB and it presents a nominal 4-ohm load, so it deserves a capable amplifier rather than being paired automatically with the smallest electronics simply because the speaker itself is small. Secondly, its 65Hz lower frequency response is perfectly respectable for this cabinet size, but it is still a compact standmount. If you want genuine deep bass, either move up to a larger Lumina model or add a well-integrated subwoofer.
Where Lumina I really earns its place is in smaller rooms, compact systems and installations where a full-sized loudspeaker would simply dominate the space. The front-positioned reflex arrangement also helps with real-world placement, while the wood front baffle and leather-covered cabinet give it a level of finish that feels much closer to Sonus faber's more expensive ranges than the dimensions might suggest.
