Audio T Verdict
The Rega Advanced EBLT is a genuine replacement and upgrade drive belt for compatible Rega turntables.
Its carefully controlled shape and material consistency are designed to transfer energy from the motor pulley to the sub-platter more evenly, helping improve speed stability and reduce wow and flutter compared with Rega’s earlier polychloroprene belt.
It is the standard belt for current Planar 1, Planar 1 Plus, Planar 78, Planar 2 and Planar 3 turntables, and it provides a straightforward upgrade for many older Rega models.
Owners of higher-performance decks should also consider the Rega Reference EBLT, particularly for a Planar 3 with Neo, Planar 6, Planar 8 or Planar 10.
Rega Advanced EBLT Turntable Drive Belt
The Rega Advanced EBLT is a precision-moulded circular drive belt developed to improve the consistency with which energy is transferred from a Rega turntable motor to its sub-platter.
Although a drive belt is a relatively small component, variations in its diameter, shape, flexibility and surface can affect rotational stability.
The Advanced EBLT is manufactured using custom Rega tooling and a proprietary material blend. Each belt is cryogenically frozen and barrelled after moulding to remove excess flash and improve its cross-sectional roundness.
Why Drive-Belt Accuracy Matters
Rega turntables use a circular belt running around a shaped motor pulley. For the platter to rotate consistently, the belt must maintain an accurate and even cross section around its complete circumference.
Small variations can change the effective driving radius as the belt rotates. This may contribute to short-term speed variation, commonly measured as wow and flutter.
Rega developed the EBLT range to provide:
- More consistent cross-sectional roundness
- Improved dimensional accuracy
- Greater speed stability
- Reduced weighted peak wow and flutter
- A longer expected working life than the previous belt material
Advanced EBLT Manufacturing
Each Advanced EBLT is moulded using high-accuracy custom tooling and Rega’s own material formulation.
After moulding, the belt is cryogenically frozen before being barrelled to remove small amounts of excess material left by the moulding process.
This process is intended to produce a smoother and more circular belt, reducing variation as it passes around the motor pulley and sub-platter.
Rega states that, under normal use and conditions, the Advanced EBLT has an expected lifespan 50% longer than its previous polychloroprene drive belt.
Compatible Rega Turntables
Rega lists the Advanced EBLT as suitable for its turntable range and it can be used as a replacement for the earlier standard Rega belt on compatible models.

Rega’s Published Performance Comparison
Rega tested its previous standard belt, the Advanced EBLT and the Reference EBLT using the same Planar 1 turntable, changing only the drive belt.
- Previous standard belt: 0.253% weighted peak wow and flutter
- Advanced EBLT: 0.162% weighted peak wow and flutter
- Reference EBLT: 0.075% weighted peak wow and flutter
These figures demonstrate Rega’s controlled comparison and should not be treated as guaranteed measurements for every turntable. The final result also depends on the motor, pulley, bearing, sub-platter, power supply and mechanical condition of the deck.

Advanced EBLT or Reference EBLT?
Advanced EBLT
- Standard fit for Planar 1, Planar 1 Plus, Planar 78, Planar 2 and Planar 3
- Suitable replacement for many older Rega belts
- Improved accuracy over the previous standard belt
- Strong choice for general servicing and maintenance
Reference EBLT
The
Rega Reference EBLT Drive Belt
receives an additional curing process for greater consistency.
- Rega’s highest-accuracy single drive belt
- Standard on current Planar 6, Planar 8 and Planar 10
- Recommended for a Planar 3 using a Rega Neo
- Suitable for customers seeking the highest available belt performance
How to Replace the Drive Belt
- Switch off the turntable and disconnect its power supply.
- Remove the platter carefully and place it on a safe, level surface.
- Remove the existing belt from the motor pulley and sub-platter.
- Check that the pulley and sub-platter belt surfaces are clean and dry.
- Handle the new belt with clean, dry hands.
- Fit the belt evenly around the sub-platter and the correct section of the motor pulley.
- Rotate the sub-platter gently by hand to check that the belt is seated correctly.
- Refit the platter and reconnect the turntable.
Do not apply oil, belt dressing or cleaning fluid to the EBLT. Avoid overstretching or twisting it during installation.
Checking Speed After Installation
Once the new belt has been fitted, check that the platter starts normally and that the belt remains correctly positioned.
The
Rega Strobe Kit
can be used to evaluate turntable speed at 33?, 45 or 78 rpm.
On a turntable using a compatible Rega Neo power supply, fine speed adjustment can be completed while observing the stroboscopic disc.
A new belt cannot correct every speed problem. If the platter continues to run inconsistently, the motor, pulley, main bearing or power supply may require inspection.
Turntable Support from Audio T
Audio T staff can identify the correct belt, fit it, check platter speed and inspect the motor and main bearing where required.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which current Rega turntables use the Advanced EBLT?
It is fitted as standard to the Planar 1, Planar 1 Plus, Planar 78, Planar 2 and standard Planar 3.
Does the current Planar 6 use this belt?
The current Planar 6 is now supplied with the higher-grade Reference EBLT. The Advanced EBLT remains physically suitable, but the Reference version is the recommended replacement.
Can I fit it to an older Rega turntable?
Yes, in many cases. It is designed to replace the earlier circular Rega drive belt on compatible models.
Does it fit the original Rega Planet?
Rega’s original Advanced EBLT launch information specifically excluded the early 1970s Planet model.
Will it improve turntable speed?
Its improved dimensional accuracy is designed to improve speed stability and reduce short-term variation. It cannot correct a faulty motor, worn bearing or damaged pulley.
How long should the belt last?
Rega states that its expected lifespan is 50% longer than the previous polychloroprene belt under normal use and conditions. Actual life depends on age, use, storage and environmental conditions.
Should I choose the Advanced or Reference EBLT?
The Advanced EBLT is the standard replacement for many Rega decks. The Reference EBLT is the premium option and is particularly appropriate for the Planar 3 with Neo and higher-level Rega turntables.
Can I fit the belt myself?
Yes. Replacement normally involves removing the platter and fitting the belt around the motor pulley and sub-platter. Handle it carefully with clean, dry hands.
