The Wharfedale SW-10 is a useful middle ground for anyone who wants proper low-frequency reinforcement without committing to a huge subwoofer. Its 250mm long-throw driver is backed by a built-in 200W amplifier, giving it enough authority for home cinema while remaining manageable enough to integrate into a two-channel music system.

The important word here is integration. A good subwoofer should not simply add a layer of boom underneath everything else. What Does a Subwoofer Actually Do?

A subwoofer is designed to reproduce low frequencies that the main speakers either cannot reproduce at all or begin to reproduce with reduced output.

That does not mean its only purpose is explosions, thunder and exaggerated bass effects.

In a music system, low-frequency extension can contribute to:

Not Just More Bass

Stereo Hi-Fi Crossover Setup

In a stereo system, start by understanding how low your main speakers reproduce cleanly.

Home Cinema Crossover Setup
