Audio T Verdict
The dedicated Audio Note AN-J stands are an important part of installing the AN-J loudspeakers correctly rather than simply somewhere convenient to place them.
Their 480mm height positions the speakers appropriately for seated listening, while the broad top plates and four fillable pillars provide the rigid, high-mass support needed by the AN-J cabinet.
Adjustable locking spikes allow each stand to be levelled accurately, and the option to fill the pillars provides a straightforward way to increase mass and stability. Correctly assembled and positioned, they form the natural support for an Audio Note AN-J system.
Audio Note AN-J Speaker Stands
The Audio Note AN-J Speaker Stands are dedicated high-mass supports designed to partner Audio Note AN-J loudspeakers.
Each stand consists of a broad top plate, a matching base plate and four hollow upright pillars. The pillars can be filled with suitable dry material to increase the total mass and provide a more stable foundation for the loudspeaker.
The stands are supplied as a stereo pair in kit form, with the plates, pillars, assembly bolts, adjustable spikes and Allen key required for construction.
Stands Only
Audio Note AN-J loudspeakers are not included and are available separately.
The stands require assembly before use. Filling material, Blu-Tack and tools other than the supplied Allen key are not listed as included.
Designed for Audio Note AN-J Loudspeakers
The stand height and top-plate dimensions have been selected to suit the proportions of the AN-J cabinet.
Supporting the loudspeaker at the correct height helps position the tweeter appropriately for seated listening, while the broad top plate supports the cabinet more evenly than a small universal speaker stand.
The stands can be paired with models throughout the AN-J range, including the

High-Mass Four-Pillar Construction
Each stand uses four hollow rectangular pillars positioned between a substantial top plate and base plate.
The four-pillar arrangement creates a broad and rigid support beneath the loudspeaker while allowing the stand to be filled before the top plate is fitted.
Each unfilled stand weighs 11kg. Filling the pillars increases the completed weight, so the final listening position should be considered before the speakers are installed.
Fillable Upright Pillars
Audio Note recommends filling the hollow pillars with a suitable high-density material such as clean, dry metal particles or pre-dried sand.
Kiln-dried sand, clean aquarium sand or suitable dry sand intended for children’s sandpits can be used. Construction-grade sharp sand should not be used in its normal form because it may retain moisture.
Whichever material is selected, it must be completely dry and free from debris that could obstruct the threaded mounting holes.
Suitable Filling Materials
- Kiln-dried sand
- Clean, dry aquarium sand
- Clean sand intended for children’s sandpits
- Suitable dry metal particles or shot
- Other clean, dry high-density material
Avoid Using
- Damp or wet sand
- Unprepared construction sand
- Material containing dirt or debris
- Anything that could retain moisture
- Material that blocks the bolt holes
Sealing the Upright Pillars
The small central opening at the bottom of each pillar may need to be sealed before filling to prevent sand or particles escaping.
Audio Note recommends a pliable and slightly adhesive material such as Blu-Tack or Plasticine. A small amount can be placed over the opening and around the lower edge of each pillar before it is bolted to the base plate.
The filling material should then be added through the larger central opening. Keep the material away from the smaller threaded holes used to attach the top plate.
Supplied in Kit Form
The package contains all the principal structural parts and fixings required to assemble two stands.
The base plates are fitted first, followed by the upright pillars. Once the pillars have been filled, the top plates can be attached using the supplied countersunk bolts.
All fixings should be tightened securely and checked again once each stand has been assembled. The bolts should also be inspected occasionally after the stands have been moved.
Adjustable and Lockable Floor Spikes
Four adjustable spikes are supplied for each stand.
The spikes fit into the threaded positions at the corners of the base plate and can be adjusted independently to compensate for an uneven floor.
Place a spirit level on the top plate and adjust the spikes until the stand is level, with all four points in firm contact with the floor. The locking nuts can then be tightened to prevent further movement.
Suitable floor protectors may be required when the stands are installed on timber, laminate, tile or another surface that could be marked by spikes.
Securing the AN-J Loudspeakers
Audio Note recommends placing four small pea-sized pieces of Blu-Tack on the upper surface of each top plate, with one positioned near each corner.
The speaker can then be lowered carefully onto the stand and pressed down gently so that the Blu-Tack compresses between the cabinet and top plate.
This helps secure the loudspeaker and creates a controlled contact between the cabinet and metal stand without using permanent adhesive or mechanical fixings.
480mm Stand Height
Each assembled stand measures 480mm high, 330mm wide and 230mm deep.
Combined with the 585mm-high AN-J cabinet, this places the loudspeaker at an appropriate height for many conventional listening chairs.
The exact relationship between the tweeter and ear height will still depend on the listening seat, floor construction and distance from the speakers.
Available Finishes
Audio Note offers the AN-J stands in Gloss Black, Matte Black, Gloss White and Matte White.
The black finishes provide a discreet match with darker equipment and loudspeaker veneers, while the white options may suit lighter rooms and selected cabinet finishes.
Finish availability should be confirmed when ordering.
Positioning the Complete AN-J System
The assembled stands should be placed on a dry, level and stable floor capable of supporting the combined weight of the stands and loudspeakers.
Audio Note AN-J speakers are designed to work close to solid room boundaries, commonly beginning near the rear wall or room corners.
Once the loudspeakers are secured to the stands, their distance from the rear and side walls can be adjusted to balance bass output, tonal weight and stereo focus.
Both speakers should be positioned symmetrically wherever the room allows, with toe-in adjusted gradually while listening to familiar recordings.
