Naim FraimLite Tall-Height Level

Audio T Verdict

The Naim FraimLite Tall-Height Level is the roomiest expansion module for a FraimLite equipment rack. Its uprights create 280mm of nominal equipment clearance beneath the new platform, while the complete level adds 299mm to the assembled rack.

Audio T offers one complete tall level in six platform and upright combinations. It is intended for unusually tall components or installations needing generous ventilation and cable space. The FraimLite Base is not included.

FraimLite supports equipment directly on a veneered composite platform and does not use the glass sub-shelf found on full Fraim. Naim permits a maximum of two tall-upright levels in one rack module, so the complete configuration must be planned before ordering.

Naim FraimLite Tall-Height Level

FraimLite is Naim's simplified modular equipment-support system. Each tall level connects to the structure beneath through three minimal-contact cup-and-cone interfaces, while the next component rests directly on the shaped veneered composite platform.

The tall version provides substantially more vertical space than the standard and medium levels. It is useful for large components, valve equipment, products with opening lids or installations where extra cooling and connector clearance is required.

Designed For

  • Extending an existing Naim FraimLite rack
  • Providing 280mm of nominal equipment clearance
  • Tall components that exceed medium-level spacing
  • Equipment requiring generous ventilation
  • Products with lids or controls that open upwards
  • Selected mixed FraimLite and full Fraim installations

Important Limitations

  • This product contains one tall-height level
  • It cannot stand independently on the floor
  • A compatible base or existing rack stack is required
  • No glass shelf is included or required
  • A rack module may contain no more than two tall levels
  • Maximum load is 50kg per shelf, evenly distributed
  • Maximum load for one complete assembly is 90kg

One Complete Tall-Height Level

The selected option contains one veneered tall-level platform, three tall anodised aluminium uprights and the required level assembly hardware. It creates one additional support surface and adds 299mm to the rack.

This page does not offer a twin pack. Select the required platform and upright colours from the six listed combinations, and order a compatible FraimLite Base separately when building a new floor-standing stack.

The FraimLite Base Is Sold Separately

A tall level is an expansion module rather than a complete rack. A new independent stack requires one FraimLite Base, while an existing compatible rack can accept the level within Naim's height, level-count and load limits.

The Uprights Set the Space Below

The three tall uprights connect the new platform to the support structure beneath. They create 280mm of nominal space for the component immediately below that platform. The newly installed veneered surface then supports another component above.

A component placed on the uppermost platform has no overhead restriction unless another level is later installed. Measure the component position affected by the new uprights, not simply the product intended for the new top surface.

280mm Available Height

Naim publishes 280mm as the available equipment height for each tall FraimLite level. The corresponding overall level height is 299mm. Available height describes the nominal space beneath the platform, while overall height shows how much the module adds to the rack.

Measure the complete component, including feet, aerials and upper projections, and retain the ventilation space specified by its manufacturer. Opening lids, top-mounted controls and valve cages may need more room than the closed chassis dimensions suggest.

If 280mm is unnecessary, the medium FraimLite level provides 206mm of clearance and adds 225mm to the rack. The standard version provides 131mm and adds 150mm. Choosing the shortest safe level helps keep the completed stack lower and more stable.

Direct Veneered Equipment Support

Equipment rests directly on a shaped 19mm double-veneered composite shelf. The usable support area is 452 x 340mm within the rack's overall 643 x 442mm footprint.

Check the position of every equipment foot rather than relying only on the outside chassis dimensions. All feet must sit securely on the platform, with room for the case, ventilation openings and rear connections.

No Glass Shelf Is Supplied

FraimLite intentionally supports equipment directly on its veneered panel. It does not include the full Fraim glass sub-shelf, support balls, sockets or locating pin. Do not add ordinary glass in an attempt to reproduce the reference Fraim structure.

Three-Point Cup-and-Cone Structure

Three extruded anodised aluminium uprights connect each tall level to the module below. Custom cups, cones, clamping rings, studs and nuts create rigid minimal-contact interfaces between successive levels.

The three-point arrangement avoids the rocking associated with four imperfectly matched contact points. Correct assembly remains essential, and the completed rack must be positioned on a level surface capable of carrying its total loaded weight.

Six Finish Combinations

Audio T currently offers this single tall-height level in the following combinations:

  • Black platform with natural aluminium uprights
  • Black platform with black anodised uprights
  • Cherry platform with natural aluminium uprights
  • Cherry platform with black anodised uprights
  • Natural Ash platform with natural aluminium uprights
  • Natural Ash platform with black anodised uprights

Real wood veneer varies naturally in grain and tone. Match both the platform and upright finish when extending an existing rack, and ask Audio T for help if the original specification is uncertain.

Weight and Load Limits

One tall FraimLite level weighs 4.75kg before packaging. The published shipping weight is 6.65kg.

Naim states a maximum safe load of 50kg on each shelf, evenly distributed, and a maximum load of 90kg for one complete Fraim or FraimLite assembly. Both restrictions apply, and adding another level does not increase the 90kg total-rack limit.

Include the base, every level and all equipment when confirming that the floor and its supporting structure are suitable. Place heavy components low in the stack where practical and within the ventilation requirements of each product.

Maximum of Two Tall Levels

Naim permits a maximum of two levels with tall uprights in a single Fraim or FraimLite rack module. Tall, medium and standard upright lengths may be combined, but the planned arrangement must remain within the applicable height, stability and load limits.

This is a stricter configuration limit than the six-level allowance associated with standard and medium uprights. Ask Audio T to check a mixed-height or unusually heavy rack before ordering additional levels.

Ventilation and Component Order

Tall spacing can be useful for hot-running power amplifiers, valve equipment and products with top ventilation. Extra space does not replace the manufacturer's instructions, so retain the stated clearances around every ventilation opening.

Power supplies and power amplifiers may also generate magnetic fields. Increased spacing or a second rack stack can be preferable when these products would otherwise sit close to sensitive source or pre-amplifier components.

Cable Clearance and Dressing

Check every cable before finalising the order of components. DIN plugs, Burndy collars, mains connectors, speaker cables and network leads need sufficient space behind the equipment and should not be stretched, sharply bent or pressed against the uprights.

The extra vertical clearance may improve access, but it does not change the platform depth or rack footprint. Ensure rear connectors and cable bends remain within the available installation space behind the rack.

Mixing FraimLite and Full Fraim Levels

Naim permits FraimLite and reference Fraim levels to be combined as part of a gradual upgrade path. A FraimLite level always retains direct veneered support, while a full Fraim level brings its own ball-supported toughened-glass sub-shelf.

Mixing the two does not make their support structures identical. Ask Audio T to verify the required hardware, finish alignment, overall configuration and correct assembly sequence before modifying an existing rack.

Assembly and Care

Unload the rack before adding, removing or rearranging levels. Follow Naim's assembly sequence so that each cup, cone, upright, stud, clamping ring and nut is fitted in the correct orientation. Tall levels increase the height of the structure, so stability should be checked carefully after assembly.

Dust the shelf and uprights with a clean, soft cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners, excessive moisture and products that leave a slippery residue beneath equipment feet. Recheck rack level and stability after relocation or significant system changes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this page offer one tall level or a twin pack?

One complete tall-height level. Audio T lists six finish combinations, but no two-level twin-pack option on this page.

Does the level include the FraimLite Base?

No. The base is a separate product. This is an expansion level for a FraimLite Base or another compatible rack stack.

What does 280mm available height mean?

It is the nominal vertical space created beneath the new tall platform. The component in that position must fit while retaining adequate ventilation and connector clearance.

Why is the overall level height 299mm?

The 280mm figure describes the available equipment space. The platform itself is 19mm thick, making the complete level-height addition 299mm.

Does the level include a glass shelf?

No. FraimLite equipment rests directly on the veneered platform. Glass sub-shelves and ball supports belong to full Fraim levels.

How many tall levels can one rack use?

Naim specifies a maximum of two levels with tall uprights in one Fraim or FraimLite module. Ask Audio T to check any mixed-height configuration.

How does tall compare with medium FraimLite?

Tall provides 280mm clearance and adds 299mm to the rack. Medium provides 206mm clearance and adds 225mm, keeping the stack 74mm lower per level where the extra space is not required.

Which finish should I order?

Match both the platform veneer and upright colour. Black, Cherry and Natural Ash are offered with either natural aluminium or black anodised uprights.

Can I combine FraimLite and full Fraim levels?

Naim supports mixed systems as a gradual upgrade path. The shelf constructions remain different, so ask Audio T to verify the parts, appearance and assembly before reconfiguring the rack.

Why Buy From Audio T?

The tall level changes the rack height considerably and is subject to a two-level configuration limit. Audio T can verify the chosen finish and confirm that 280mm spacing is appropriate for the component affected by the new level.

Your local store can also plan the complete stack, calculate loaded weight, check ventilation and cable dressing, and advise on careful assembly or gradual upgrading to full Fraim levels.
