Turntable Mat Rather Than a DJ Slip Mat
Although turntable mats are sometimes described as slip mats, this Rega accessory is intended to support the record during conventional Hi-Fi playback.
It is not designed for DJ scratching, back-cueing or allowing the record to move independently while the platter continues to rotate.
Fitting the Rega Wool Mat
No tools or turntable adjustments should normally be required.
- Switch off the turntable.
- Remove the record and existing platter mat.
- Check that the platter is clean and free from loose debris.
- Place the wool mat centrally over the spindle.
- Smooth it gently so that it lies flat across the platter.
- Check that the mat remains correctly positioned as the platter rotates.
The wool mat should normally replace the existing mat rather than being placed on top of it. Stacking mats can alter the height of the record relative to the tonearm and cartridge.
Care and Maintenance
Keep the wool mat clean and dry. Loose dust can be removed carefully with a clean, soft brush or suitable low-powered vacuum attachment.
Avoid applying record-cleaning fluid, household sprays or other liquids directly to the mat.
When removed from the turntable, store it flat rather than folding or tightly rolling it. This will help prevent creases and allow it to sit evenly on the platter.
A lightweight wool mat can occasionally lift with a record. Raise the record slowly and hold the edge of the mat down gently where necessary.
